Man kid's these days have no idea how lucky we are to have JST giving us these videos. They did most of the really good hardcore albums of the 2000's. At least the ones from Victory Records. And those are the ones that matter lmao 😁
@@joeymusic I really would wish to get more Tipps for recording and mixing good shout-vocals. I have problems in which distance to place the microphone and how to mix the vocals. Often they are „too loud“ in the ear, hard to describe. If I take out some frequencies they sound too thin and have no punch anymore. Greetings from Germany, sry for my english, have a nice day.
i wasnt sold on it at first but i just might be getting nudged in that direction. rethinking my mastering chain. right now using izotope ozone but im thinking pulsar massive EQ then BG Mix then JST maximer.
Wish you guys would do videos on mixing and mastering with your tools in other genres, specifically amen-heavy dnb (drumfunk, dark side, etc), since there seems to be a million tutorials out there on literally every genre except this.
Could you do a seperate video about the bus compressors role on a master. you talked about having it pumping, glued or slightly compressed. Could you go more in depth on that?
This a good vid and it makes me want to get the Maximizer. I have to say, this bit about mastering for the platform is not important if you are using a distribution service where you only upload ONE file. It seems like it's better to overshoot on your LUFs and Spotify will just turn it down, from which I understand is better than it getting turned up. I'm not saying this feature is useless but in most cases you can't submit something different for Apple Music vs Spotify.
Hey Miami! Great video as always, quick question. How is Maximizer different from tools like "Ozone" when it comes to mastering (other than price point haha).
Does rhis plugin work well with HipHop/Trap? All the vids i see about this are usually geared towards rock which is fine but id like to know a bit about the different algorithms. Can this be used kinda like The God Particle plugin? Im no pro by no means ...
What do you think about mixing into a mastering-chain? Personally I find that way I can avoid unwanted surprises which might come up if I do the mastering-process separately and I can adjust the master as I go along. Do you think it make sense to do this kind of "top-down" approach or is there a specific advantage when doing mixing and mastering as their own respective processes? Thank you so much and keep up the great work!
You didn't ask me but I will say that I love mixing into a mastering chain. I'll have some of things on the instrumental buds mostly and the mastering chain will have a limiter. Once I am starting to get a good level on the kick and snare ill add the townhouse buss compressor on the mastering chain. I'll proceed to mix into that and then when I'm done mixing I'll just take the limiter off. I love mixing like this cause like you say I don't want any surprises. Sometimes if I don't mix like this, I'll notice my kick and bass is totally off
what is the benifit of lower the volume for each streaming service before sending it out I thought they just lowered it, and I use a distribution company to publish music so how would that work?
I've been mixing top down after watching a Nolly video and replicating his settings. Would you say that this process takes out elements of the mastering here? I feel like the EQ is already done, for example.
Im new at this... Is maximizer something I could/should add to say a drum or a guitar mix bus to take the load off another maximizer instance during the mastering process?
Wait so do you send the -8LUFS to the platforms or the -5LUFS? And isn’t it so that you can turn off the normalization on your music streaming app? Thanks in advance. LOVE YOUR CONTENT♥️
Generally, the streaming services play music around -14LUFS (depending on the service). But mastering to -14 can be an overkill, because if anything - the services need to increase the loudness themselves, apply limiting etc. which you have no control over, so it may destroy your master. -8 LUFS should be fine. Even -10 should be good as well because it will keep the dynamics of the song. -5 is way too loud in my opinion, the sound will be crushed and may create nasty distortions. It's not worth it going this loud. If you're mastering for club play then maybe, not for streaming services. Even if people turn off the normalization - then it still doesn't matter, because Spotify etc. have music with different loudness levels. Those people who turn off normalization are masochists in my opinion because they have to manually turn the volume up or down depending on what they are listening to lol. Normalization was implemented so that you don't have to do it, so why turning it off? -10 to -8 is a sweet spot imo.
Just do the best sounding master possible, don't care if it's -10 or -5 and let the platform do whatever they want. It makes no sense to master a song to -5 and then turn it down to -14, Spotify will do that anyway. And if someone listen to your song without normalization it will sound low as f
But isn't that what this plugin does? Just turns down the song so it matches -14LUFS overall? Yes or no? I´m a bit confused. I tried uploading a master that is -14 against the -6 and the first one with normalization does sound louder at the end...
@@boristubeti6776 I don't own the plugin, so I'm not exactly sure. But if what it does is turn down the output, that just what Spotify is going to do anyway. You're gaining nothing, just losing level. If you want more dynamics you should be compressing less to begin with. Try listening to your favorite artist with normalization turned off. Most likely I'll be close to -6, no one is targeting -14. But just do what sounds best to you
Hello Miami and everyone, I need advice because my Earth dollars are limited... Should I go for Howard-Benson Vocals or Maximizer? My latest upload in my channel is my best mix yet... which plugin would help me take my mix to the next level? Please and Thank you.
I'm right there with you, but I would rather them nail a great release day that has been delayed rather than them release a product on the day that they promise and it needing a lot of work.
Sorry for the late release time (after 11 pm est) but we made it! Congratulations is in order for the entire team here at JST who helped make this happen!!!
Maximizer has its own algorithm for giving you amazing master results, as well as tools regarding tone, low end control, eq curve, and width that are as simplistic as humanly possible. -Miami
do I have to apply the eq then render the file and then repeat the process with the compression and then maximizer or can I apply all three plugins at once?

I’m just the director of content here, Joey is the plugin mastermind haha

Thank You So Much For This Video Miami 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
That transition game still strong, Miami. Another good vid!
Imma keep it going as long as I can lol

It’s my pleasure tbh! Anything you want to see me make a vid on?

I try to keep it in that 10 minute window. Nobody is trying to watch a 30 min episode on something lol

Love the content!
Excellent info!!

bought em the moment I got the email 😅

curious about the eq too

Why would they do that? Joey Sturgis is known for being a metal producer, so that's what they focus on.

100 percent works well on hip hop and trap. Download the trial and just test it out, i used it on my whole rap album

Would you recommend only using Maximizer on the master? What other types of plugins would you use on your master channel.
Use it on EVERYTHING! Bus I like a bus comp on my master as well

hi, what are your prices for mixing and mastering
That’s a very different answer depending on if you’re asking me or Joey lolol

If you are good at gain staging, there is nothing wrong with top down mixing tbh

Does the streaming platforms match on the jst maximize effect the limiter or does it just turn down the output

Yesss! Lol

Yeah dude. Honestly you don't need to add more of a high boost because you've already done that by mixing into it. Imo
As long as you’re gain staging process, top down mixing can alleviate some steps
-Miami
@@joeymusic awesome! Thanks for the reply, now to learn how to gain stage, haha!
So you use the maximizer crush the mix to -5lufs then without adjusting the threshold you turned the mixdown to match the streaming platform?
So, will we ever get to know the name of the song being mastered? 😂😂
Btw, seems like an awesome plug-in!

You can use a maximizer in a lot of places in your mix. Individual tracks, busses, and of course the master bus!
I just bought Maximizer but no link with the free copy of just eq? How do I get it?
It’s too late that offer ended unfortunately. Sorry about that.
