I am, and I'm a URM Enhanced member! Need more death metal sessions with Dave Otero too, but more importantly can you guys get Erik Rutan, Scott Morris? That would be so sick to have a session with Erik Rutan, especially a Hate eternal song
“I like to remind everyone that the bass is important.” After I cleared the tears of joy from my eyes, I realized Wannasee is my new favorite mixing/mastering engineer ever.
Well man, I'm mixing my own production now. It's my second try afer I recorded and mixed my first production in 2015-2016. It's a challenging task, hours of tough work and sometimes a bit frustrating. But when you're reaching the final stages of the mix, it's incredibly rewuarding. I seriously challenge you guys to start your own mixing on your own material, specially if you can't afford a sound engeneer session. Show us your material, while more music, while more intersing life.
Mister Kenova I know this question is not for me but I would say quad tracking will cost you, the guitar has to be set up perfectly and even a slight detune can turn your guitars into a chorus orgy. Also the guitarist needs to be a very tight player or otherwise its going to sound weird . If you have all the necessary ingredients though I would say go for it, it will definitely sound way fatter.
I usually track 2 guitars but make 2 different sounds for each side, effectively ending with 4 tracks, but less potential timing problems. Just gotta watch out for the phase but it usually works well
When I mix guitar solos over a death metal track, I never know what to do and how to approach it. Can you guys give advices about this. Can't find anthing worthwhile about this on youtube.
I find the best way to get it out front is a different amp, cab and mic. So say youre using amp sims. Rhythm guitars with say TF Jason richardson with an sm57. The leads you could use TF ben bruce with a condenser setting etc. That way you can have a seperated feel without making the lead earpiercing-ly loud! Also short verb and delay will help with blending!
You people have no idea what real death metal is/was like. You want to cook in an oven and don't care how the food will taste, all you care is keeping the oven the entire time at 240 C. And this mentality destroyed not just metal but music in general. Everything sounds like it comes straight out of " Guitar Pro" . Loudness and brightness is all i hear, no guts, no death, no attitude. Rule no 1 : death metal is not airplay oriented.
I'm sorry it offends you that this doesn't like a 1990s recording from Morrisound studio. Unfortunately things change over multiple decades and the world doesn't revolve around your tastes.
When I read death metal I thought I'd check it out, thank for reminding me times have changed & DM has got some fucked up splintered genres now which is whack af & shouldn't even be labeled DM, like whoever or whatever band u use at the start?its metalcore, progressive,& the vocals suck in both. From now on I hope others out there can be more specific & know old school death metal is death metal?this newer other shit is just a waste of time & dm was never meant to be technical
How many of you guys are mixing a lot of death metal??
I'm mixing my own band and some others around town. You know what would help though? Some more death metal videos from you guys!
I mix a lot extreme metal

great sounding mix thou!
more death metal please!
You make cuts like a boss, Joel. I usually have to solo for cuts.
more death metal please
Thank you so much for death metal content. I can't get enough of this.
Very good point about "does it sound like a song"
I hear A WHOLE LOT of high-freq screeching even after the EQing. I'm using HPH-MT8 headphones by YAMAHA.
Wow, that advice at the end of the video is great! Thanks so much Joel!
I think the drums need another 20 db
and about an added 15 db to the low end
oh man this guy makes it so obvious that drums are the life of a mix
Joel is awesome

Cool video cuz
sounds like the band Beyond Creation
So you are limiting on the the Stereo buss inside the mix?
Oh man you really hear that 2.5K at like the minute mark
That bass tone tho
Do you prefer quad tracking rythym or duo? (For Metalcore/Progressive/etc) Cheers!
Mister Kenova

GamePlayMetal I’ve never gotten that phase sound when quad tracking, you’re not copying and pasting are you?
What he did in less than 10mins is what i am still figuring out for almost 2 weeks now.. 😂😂😂
Why the beds behind you? Are they to accommodate bands when they come for a recording?
Really interested in that too
band?
What band is that?

do small cuts on the higher frequencies and slice it off at 1000, use a limiter if necessary. you can also use an exciter and/or accentuate the mids
@@acidbath3226 do you mean slice it off at 10,000?
@@Jazzguitar00 anywhere from 1000-10000 depending on your tastes, sometimes I like to shelve it a little bit and other times I will just cut it down
igualito a como se masteriza una cancion de reggaeton xd
@1:10 I can't tell the difference lol
probably need a good pair of monitors
I didn't hear too but I'm on headphones
I have reference headphones, i'm sure its just the youtube compression
i heard it on apple ear buds. It's just some "hssssss" that clears up, it makes the top end more clear
