      I think we've seen a resurgence for GCN because A) Melee proved these old games still have merit and can support a community long-term, B) the GameCube and other 6th-Gen consoles were the first to boast 3D graphical capabilities that aren't mostly boxy polygons, C) emulation has become more accepted as the original hardware gets older, and increasing computing power has made the average desktop capable of smoothly running these games, and D) the pandemic forced a lot of pre-existing and small communities to go online through Dolphin, and many of them created unique Dolphin builds to better facilitate netplay, which opens the door for more people to try it out.
      I'd love to see some DS or GBA games blow up, but that might be more difficult. Most of them weren't really built with multiplayer in mind, particularly on the GBA. A Mario Kart DS scene might be cool, though; that game holds up well, and might just have been the most important and improved entry in the franchise's history.

      Ignoring Gen 3 Pokémon... Mega Man Battle Network is the most popular e-sport on the GBA as now, most of the games on that system, as I know, are speedruns.
      I think in the 3/DS era, Inazuma Eleven got a passionate Community (Japan, Brazil and weirdly enough, Spain.) A football RPG with customable teams and over the top techniques? I don't see why it can be a good candidate. I Hope this franchise get a spotlight in the next installment.

The OG anime didn't finish the dub (but the Movie had an Official dub) , GO didn't have one and Last Year Ares was dubbed but used the Official western names, where the OG dub use the japanese names most of the times (The names which can't be translated.)
      And in America only two games got an official release, a Strikers game and the 3DS Re-Release of IE 1. We got shafted.

    I'm glad this video was produced, because this underseen game needed some love. I got this game like around 8-9, and being the age I am now I wish I could still play it. I remember the countless days me, my brother's and cousins would just play this either competitive with each other or against computers. I'm pretty sure we got far enough in the game due to the cups, that we could get the robot character. Yet even now with battle league, I don't think it's going to sit well with me that core mechanics from the original is not coming back. For example, charged shots are now used with power orbs. Great way to balance the game, but in my opinion it could've just been a mode in the game. Now if there is a mode for no orb and stick to everyone having the power, well throw my statement out.
    In all honesty, great game and even greater sequel needed to be on Switch somehow

    Fun fact, due to the AFL (Australian Football League) we also call it soccer instead of football to avoid confusion.

    It's so cool that there are still emulators out there. Nintendo and other big companies took most of the good ones down.

    • @faradise3819
      @faradise3819 2 года назад +2

      They can't take down emulators legally, just anything directly related to their products such as mods and fan projects based on their games (mostly, there are some which slipped through). Dolphin has been there since 2003 lol, it never went.

    My friend and I still play Strikers whenever we see each other. In college we tried to find a strikers competitive community but were unsuccessful. However, we don’t use items and try to use the purest skill mechanics of the game

    • @zachsteele6964
      @zachsteele6964 2 года назад

      yeah the items kinda take the fun out of it sometimes when you play more seriously

    • @HannesHenkelmann
      @HannesHenkelmann 2 года назад

      when we played this game items weren't that big of a problem but we forbade lob-shots - not because how in the video they go in so often but because even a weak lob-shot from the midfield would very likely stun the keeper for a short time leaving the goal open for an easy tap-in
      After some time where half of our goals where like this we decided to not use that mechanic anymore as it made the game boring and was not possible to defend against (except if you got lucky and got to the rebound first)

      @justinwallis7622 2 года назад

      @@HannesHenkelmann bro you probably have the weak goalies cheat on if that’s happening. My friend and I don’t use a ton of lob shots but have found if you get close to the box and do a quick turn around when the goalie comes out, you can lob it over them

    As a European, hearing "soccer" in an English video helps me know which sport we're talking about.
    I'd still argue it's actually called "football", but at least here there's no mix-up.

    I was always one of the top ranked players in strikers charged back in the day on online play. There were a lot of exploits, especially with the z button, that made the game super deep and a lot of fun. There were so many ways to score and none of them involved actually shooting the ball lol. Would love to see that covered as well.

    1:58 Well, it's called Soccer by 47.8% WHICH MEANS that 52.2% of the viewers call it Football.
    I guess you may just need to remake the video.
