Hello - I'm the "guest" in question. I use the term "friend code matches" to describe the fact that genuinely competitive matches were played via the game's private player-to-player custom lobbies. MSC had a "ranked" game mode (which I did go into with the video creator, but my description went unused in this video) which is more akin to modern "quickplay" rather than a ladder-ranked test of skill. You were randomly matched against the first player to connect to you and engaged in timed matches featuring a wide assortment of noncompetitive stages like The Dump. (This is like having all stages playable in Smash, and playing on time vs. goals is pretty much a perfect analogue to playing on time vs. stocks in Smash as well.) "Ranked" gameplay wasn't without community value, but when people wanted a fair fight, they set up a lobby and invited someone to it directly. As far as how clan wars were formatted, the truth is that it was variable and negotiated group by group. Often, rosters were publicized around the war start time, and clans took their turn deciding who would play who. Many people tried to play all of their matches on a specific date, but player unavailability often meant clan wars were stretched out over long periods of time, since it was considered imperative that all of a clan's best players contribute to a given war. Game-by-game, matches early in MSC's meta were timed affairs, but it generally evolved into an NTSC current of first to 7 goals (spearheaded by yours truly) and a PAL current of first to 10 goals, with no other major changes made to the game via its options. In today's region-unlocked, ladder-based gameplay, the PAL gameplay style is defaulted to - I can't blame them, with how fast the game has become. I hope this gives you much clearer insight into things.
Thanks for uploading =) Mario Strikers is a sick series. Heavily considering picking up Strikers 1 or Charged because I don't wanna drop $60 on Battle League =x
Hey again! As soon as I learned of my opportunity to speak out about MSC on a big stage, I pretty much jumped at the chance. As you could probably infer from this video, although I am not directly involved in the community anymore like I once was, I still passionately believe it is one of the best multiplayer games ever created and have a good deal of nostalgia for it. I also have to say: if you want to get back into MSC, now is a fantastic time to do so. The game is getting notoriety due to the release of Battle League and, to a lesser extent, this video. I can say from experience that my rusty self just barely defeated a player who is highly ranked on the Discord ladder. MSC competition is still ultimately niche, but hey, it's alive and well, and I think that's very cool.
I remember the day when strikers switch came out I literally walked into the Store Saw a $20 Copy of a used Mario kart double dash and cancel my preorder of strikers. The lack of content killed it for me.
We had some great battles in MSCBAY I played all these guys! I was the crappiest player at first who never gave up and then Wt Julien took me under his wing and then I got pretty good.
holy shit your content is actually fantastic, you bring attention for me as a subscriber about these games that dont have content creators that actively try grow the game through that. keep doing what you do please, maybe you can do itg?, or tetrio (online tetris game) :)
@@KC0407 My question is why tho? Like Charged didn’t destroy Mario’s image in any way, if anything people loved seeing the characters in such a different light so for what reason did it need to be toned down?
Hey, some of us are fans of both! I'm one of the guys speaking in the video, and I still have my 4.5 import somewhere, complete with all those real-world battlechips that cross-functioned with the PET toys. I never played BN competitively since it was largely a ROM-based scene, but I hope its versus community gets a boost with the BN collection on the way.
A view on Mario Strikers: Battle League would be cool, in a couple weeks the 1 year anniversary will happen, and there is still a pretty big competitive community with tournaments and leagues like the Mario Strikers Charged and Super Mario Strikers communities
I think that Charged will maintain its competitive scene since Battle League looks to be a disappointment and a step back. Personally, I think the Gamecube OG is the best overall.
12:43 - The demonstration of the Titan's Chip was really well put together and nicely built with having seen instances of it occurring throughout the video. I do adore Mario Strikers Charged Football so it's great to see this Wii game get plenty of love, even with the 3rd entry having released. It was real fun hearing about those early Wii online days.
The DLC trailer: "We added Daisy and Shy Guy!" Reality: "Ok fine have Daisy you fucking bastards, oh but by the way we are gutting half of the entire roster!" Things I would change... 1. Patch out the Death Lob, but keep the titans chip. 2. Un-nerf Technique, un-nerf long shots, nerf uncharged shots, buff charged shots, nerf cross-shots, nerf interceptions, and buff tackles. To clarify I would make it much easier to defend against cross-shots, while making charged shots more effective. The best way to do this, is to change what tackles do. To put it simply I would either leave the stun duration alone, but I would also add A LOT of knockback to tackles! If I tackle someone with a charged tackle it should push them clear out of the goalie area. 3. Interceptions and items need a slight cooldown. I'm really tired of every match just devolving into item spam madness...especially in the galactic cups. (Because intercepting an interception from another interception which was its self an interception of one of Boom Boom's throw ins should not be a thing that happens every single round of a match, not even in the Chain Cup) 4. I would make it possible to turn off items and Hyper Strikes in club mode. 5. No more slow-mo on hyper strikes in Club mode, but items can still be put down (at least this has some semblance of strategy). 6. I would limit Boom Boom's throw ins to only that teams side of the court, because why the hell does he constantly throw it clear to the other side, when I have multiple eligible receivers near him. No seriously he is the goalie, the goalie is supposed to be on your team, not a third party. WTF?! 7. We need an absolutely MASSIVE buff to friendly AI, no seriously the AI is so bad, but only for your team. I know they "buffed" Boom Boom, but actually that just hurt it that much more, because it feels like ONLY the opposing goalie is better, and "Boom Boom diff" is an even bigger problem then ever before! Its not just the goalie either, every match in a cup battle feels like a constant 1 VS 9, and I think its even worse then before. Pre-patch AI behavior was bad, but post-patch I literally have had instances where CPUs just move around and nothing else. 8. Add more game modes, add a lot more gear sets, more characters, more stadiums, add button remapping, implement play invitations, add a spectator mode, add a story or campaign mode, make the visual assist mode a lot better, make the hyper strike bar easier to see, make the ball itself A LOT easier to see (maybe by bringing back its design from Charged), allow each member of a club to have 2 strikers each not just one (I mean if u can have 2 players each then why the fuck not), and add A LOT more incentives to either join or start a Strikers Club . 9. I would change how the CPU difficulty setting works, I would add a new "Brutal" difficulty to CPUs, but would also make "Hard" a bit easier. So, the new "Hard" CPUs would land between current Normal and Hard, while the "Brutal" difficulty would be slightly more difficult then the current "Hard" CPUs. This is how I wish the game could be....instead of the absolute mess I am currently dealing with....would this fix all the issues…no, not even close, but it would b a good first step!!!

I can say from experience that my rusty self just barely defeated a player who is highly ranked on the Discord ladder. MSC competition is still ultimately niche, but hey, it's alive and well, and I think that's very cool.
Yo! My childhood :D
You are wrong about Brawl
I remember the day when strikers switch came out I literally walked into the Store Saw a $20 Copy of a used Mario kart double dash and cancel my preorder of strikers. The lack of content killed it for me.
We had some great battles in MSCBAY I played all these guys! I was the crappiest player at first who never gave up and then Wt Julien took me under his wing and then I got pretty good.
Freaking love this game. I really want to get into the competitive scene.
Then join us!
Anyone remember MSCSKY? It was an old strikers charged chat room
I remember seeing J0k3r on the forums in late 2000s. And pretty sure I even played him. Fucking mind boggling, because I was like 10 at the time😲
I love Mario strikers charged
holy shit your content is actually fantastic, you bring attention for me as a subscriber about these games that dont have content creators that actively try grow the game through that. keep doing what you do please, maybe you can do itg?, or tetrio (online tetris game) :)
1:58 bro there's no way this has sold more than Mario Kart lol
But Sluggers is better than Superstar Baseball...
Control wise always goes to superstar
Battle League had such potential man, but it was hit with horrible business practises by nintendo.
Yeah, it's sad, the games fun, but lacks alot of the charm Charged had and of course is very void of content.
@@ThePlasticBowl Everyone knew that any future strikers games would be toned down, nintendo would never allow it again
@@KC0407 My question is why tho? Like Charged didn’t destroy Mario’s image in any way, if anything people loved seeing the characters in such a different light so for what reason did it need to be toned down?
@@ThePlasticBowl Because Nintendo hates fun... and gamers
@@KC0407 Hmmm…. well can’t argue with that
A bit unfortunate it came out already, but well, what can you do? Charged looks like fun though, it looks so fast-paced.
Oh charged is
Battle network isnt
*Leaque!
@@LordPsyBorg What BN mean?
Biggest takeaway for me is that apparently people hated Mario Super Sluggers. Why? I loved that game as a kid.
Just wait a year from now when Nintendo unveils a new Mario baseball game but will fall victim to be an unfinished game
is the newest mario strikers even good or better than the prev two???
for me its worse then the previous ones
Too bad the latest game was less of a revival and more of a butchering.
Clearly, a LOT of talent, direction, vision, ambition and creative freedom was lost over the years. What a let down...
I want to play Mario Strikers. It looks so fun!
yay another mario sports video
Every game will become an esport according to Mr Akshon.
Then what do you think makes a game can't be an esports?
Yeah... as long as there is thriving community, u cam make strange esport with objective goal or speedrun
Battle League was such a huge dissapointment for me. Glad I still have my Wii and MSC.
The DLC trailer: "We added Daisy and Shy Guy!"
Reality: "Ok fine have Daisy you fucking bastards, oh but by the way we are gutting half of the entire roster!"
Things I would change...
(Because intercepting an interception from another interception which was its self an interception of one of Boom Boom's throw ins should not be a thing that happens every single round of a match, not even in the Chain Cup)
Honestly they should just make a better strikers game that fans actually wanted. The current one is a mere shell of what it should have been
Super smash brothers brawl was amazing not disappointing
(13:16) It seems weird to have your own games compete against each other.
You love to see such a passionate community even when the sequel is worse than the original :D
charged is worse than the original? D:
edit: i’m a bit further into the video. i was scared that the general consensus for MSC was that it was worse than the original. i’m glad to see that isn’t the case i love this game
I had a feeling he was talking about battle league, which did got a very mild reception due to the lack of content.
Controversial statement my dude
Glad I knew that game during my childhood, oh and btw I have a yt tutorial ready for anybody who would like to try the game and play online 🙂
Great like always. Would love for you guys to one day cover Comp TF2. Its very much a grassroots comp scene that has all been done by the community since 2007 which you guys love to do. Multiple lans each year all run by players that love the game.
Goated game
Nintendo didn't make Sonic Riders LMAO
Also the sonic riders series was multiplatform so Nintendo can't even take blame there as well
0:28 GameCube is not a golden age that is wii and then switch
My favorite non fps game
10:08 *bro the anxiety I feel it*
lmfao relatable
Diss super smash bros brawl all you want, the game is my favorite in the series because of it's amazing story and great cast of characters, also featuring the first time 3rd party characters
Pied wishes he was as good as me
What was wrong with Mario Super Sluggers?
please make a Nox pvp history ..... im Nox speedrunner, i dont have much to say
Sluggers was bad? I thought sluggers was just as good as the first. I don’t understand motion control complaint at all as i though you had to use them due to the amount of complaining but I found out you don’t even have to use them their is a controller option that allows only buttons so yeah I don’t get it.
Can you make a vid about RF or Lost Saga?
Rising Force Online? Isn't that game just an MMORPG, I never heard about it having a PVP tho.
As for Lost Saga, I am interested in seeing it getting covered, but I barely heard anything about it being that big. It's very much endemic to its origin and some countries, popular there but that's it.
RF have clan war system. And im sure it didnt need 'big' to be covered here.
Mario sluggers, was the best game on the wii besides Mario kart in my opinion. The roster was phenomenal
Taking part in clan wars during the first year of this game has to be one of my favourite teenage memories
Edit: Oh hey, they mentioned my old clan (Excessive Force)

Melee was not a weaker sequel...
They were talking about Brawl being the sequel to Melee.
Nice vid!
Would be sick to see a MK8/MK8D video on this channel, could sure send yall the way to the right people 😁
*video not vid. I don't understand the concept of wanting to shorten a word that is already short enough as it is. I find it ridiculous. But I do understand wanting to shorten long words.🤦♂
