    ► In today’s pro tip I share a skim pipe trick I’m using EVERY TIME I do a water change on aquariums with a skim pipe.
    First things first, a skim pipe is a lily pipe with a build in surface skimmer. If you don't own one yet, you can buy one here:
    - rebrand.ly/skim... *
    - rebrand.ly/skim... * (Aquasabi English)
    These are great as they combine a surface skimmer such as Eheim skim 350 (rebrand.ly/ehei... *) or VUPPA (rebrand.ly/vuppaII *) with a lily pipe at no extra cost! (At least when you own none of the above and you watch this before you’ve spend all your money)
    Now to the problem that needs to be solved:
    A skim pipe will siphon air when the water level goes below the rim of the skim pipe body and the floater emersed. As a consequence you have to turn of the filter. Which can harm the beneficial filter bacteria, depending how long it takes before you switch the filter back on.
    Maybe you are using cold RO water right from the tap (like I do) and you rely on the thermo Filter to heat ip the fresh water to normal temperature. This doesn’t work, until you are able to switch the filter back on.
    Now to the solution:
    A skim pipe replacement kit contains 2 elements, the floater and the bottom plug for flow regulation. And guess what, that very same bottom plug, fits perfectly from the top instead of the floater and seals the skim pipe nice and neat.
    Simply swap the floater for a secondary bottom plug from the replacement kit and enjoy your water change while keeping your filter on all the time.
    Buy skim pipe replacement kit here:
    - rebrand.ly/skim... * (Aquasabi English)
    - rebrand.ly/skim... * (Aquasabi German)
    Cheers

    I also had this issue with cold osmose water. So I came up with the Idea to mix the cold and hot water before the osmosis system.
    This work pretty well ! Since this modification. I don't worry anymore about water temperature during water change!

    • @nicolaaccardo5704

      Having a thermostat before or after the RO system was my first though! However It's to much electric power for the plug I have under my sink. This is why I installed on both lines, cold and warm, a T shape with a faucet. Once the opening is set, the temperature is stable over time.

    That’s a great tip Juris, I notice you have a rubber band on the skimmer part, Do you have problems with it bobbing. After a few day my skimmer always starts bobbing and sucks loads of air in to the filter. A small well placed elastic band fixes this. Problem solved. May be a short hack video there for you.

    • @JurijsJutjajevs
      @JurijsJutjajevs  3 года назад

      it has something to do with increasing or decreasing suction of the filter due to variables. Not having a safety rim on the skim part is a massive construction error in all skim pipes I have seen. the rubber band or him tie as in my case solves the problem.

    • @JurijsJutjajevs

      Yes kind of a DIY safety feature. The skim pipe floater doesn’t have any stopper so if it goes down all the way the air below the floater will be suck into the filter and the floater won’t float any more and fish can get inside

    • @JurijsJutjajevs
      @JurijsJutjajevs  4 года назад +2

      false blue light is stressing plants at night, if you compare the intensity of the real moonlight with the sunlight, one would have to run the "blue moonlight" at around 0,003% power or something .. so everyone's fake blue moonlight is stressing the plants like if you try to sleep while the lights are on.
