It doesn't make sense to say some people are Christian and others are Catholic - the latter is a subset of the former.
Depends where you are from I think? While Protestants will call themselves Christian when asked, Catholics will almost always say catholic (in my experience). I very rarely hear someone call themselves protestant instead of christian
