You can tell how much it impacted him. Very sad. Someone who just wanted to make people laugh and have a good time. Those of us who are reasonable people have your back, Nigel.
As much as I enjoy the societal/political stuff, the interviews you do with other comedians always feels like one of those great chats you have with mates at the pub when 5 beers deep!
I remember Mike Chen/Strictly Dumpling saying Nigel did not contact him during the apologizing to China thing. I think that's why he went on those different channels and talked about it
Interestingly, I saw one of the Mikey Chen podcasts at the time shortly after. However, Mikey Chen actually did state he 'completely understood why Nigel did it' (paraphrasing). I cannot speak for every podcast Mikey Chen appeared on, but I thought he was actually being pretty cool about the whole thing and was rather understanding. I think he was a little annoyed, but he didn't verbally/vocally saying anything outwardly negative about Nigel from what I recall. However, if you do not watch the whole podcast and you are in a certain mindset, you could potentially convince yourself you were 'thrown under the bus', but I don't think that happened.
I don't think it is always an obligatory, diversity thing to be hired. A lot of cultures "take the piss" out of their own. We have indigenous Black Comedy here in Australia and they are great, "Deadly" as they say. I think you are genuinely loved because of your attitude and you are truly a funny man to listen to.
Nigel's story needs to be seen on the big screen...either as a biopic drama and/or a documentary. Dave Chappelle should be involved, perhaps as the primary producer.
That translated statement sounds exactly like what every other Chinese celebrity would issue when shit happens. But this is also what Taiwanese celebs who decide to work in Mainland China face and do... which really boils down to whether you want to pay the price.

52:20 Wow Nigel brings up a seriously good point. I've never though of Andrew Tate like that. Now come to think of it he's basically a pro-wrestling heel on social media, never dropping keyfabe. All you gotta do is to not take him seriously and all of the sudden the shit that people get offended by becomes pure entertainment. He's just a guy saying crazy shit, shit you can't come up with yourself, and getting rich off of it. Good for him. The people that actually take his advice? Well, I'd assume Andrew Tate is not their main issue.
Uncle Roger's full comedy episodes are hilarious. He does the food reviews, working in restaurants and more. Get to see and hear from Nephew Nigel too. He has a full season you can watch. 👌🏽
my summary: Nigel: I want to have something to do with China but it's just more trouble than it's worth. I'm successful enough now i'm just going to stop dealing with Chinese social media. I feel a bit sorry for Chinese entertainers who don't have the option though that seems rough.
tbh I was really put off by him when the whole dumpling fiasco happened, but seeing his side of the story really cleared things up. I'll probably start watching him again knowing what happened was just a case of miscommunication and arguably bad choices.
He wasn’t really in the wrong in that situation even to begin with. It’s not everyday that you find out someone you worked with for a video is a higher-up cultist. Most people who got upset were just “China bad so apologizing to China also bad”. It’s unfortunate how one-dimensional and caveman people get about CCP when it should be nuanced bad and upsides too believe it or not. But the desire in the west to create a boogeyman along with Fulangong’s very real financial backing of these motives, along with an actual cultural genocide, have added so much fuel to the fire it overwhelmingly/disproportionately occupies the minds of westerners Anyways probably too much of a deep dive lol, he definitely could’ve communicated it better I agree
@@Amaling He didn't try to apologize. That's where he failed his communication. Or more specificially his team fail it. They should realize that the post feel more like an apology letter. good on you for watching this then and moving on from what you thought then. Hope you've enjoyed catching up on his stuff :)
I had no idea Auntie Helen was German lol
It was a surprise for Me too😂❤! He is also part of AMWF community🥰❤️!!!!
Howewer Auntie Helen was lucky as Fuck LoL Ahaha😍😁❤️!!!!
Awe. Bless him. Just love his personality and it is really interesting to meet the man behind the character. ❤ Wish him loads more success. Imagine all the Chinese Uncle Rogers that we never meet because of the government’s control of the pop.
He is a good Chinese and listened to the ccp as well.
@@xiaonanw6374 Yep you beat him in the spam youtube comment section though. Making the CCP so proud.
@@justincenters2762 are you on fent or meth. I am as anti China as is possible. Roger sided with China... he is the bad communist sympathizer. He would be in their markets but they banned him after he helped them silence a good dude.
@@justincenters2762 you can not read and are apparently racist to think a Chinese name means supporting china's dumb and dying communists. SMH your the type of simple mind communism loves.
@@justincenters2762 I'm making a point to have the point not get washed over by the stupid and or greedy. Such as yourself. The only thing dumber than a communist Chinese??? U 😭 and maybe north Koreans
I love Nigel, he's smart, funny, and handsome, what more could you want?
You know what? I think I'll check out Nigel's special! Great interview. Seems like a genuinely sweet human being.
Uncle Roger, forget about China.....you have a huge market to capture, which is India. Make your Haiya Specials in India. I bet you will be a huge hit there. You will be idolized in this English speaking comedy loving modern India because you bring a total new version of comedy to their palate. As a fellow Msian, you knew about Indian culture and cuisines well, so expand your wings there.
So good to hear the full story from Nigel. On face value, I enjoyed his vids and was just disappointed he 'shilled' for the CCP. Now hear this wasn't the case, just a reminder to me to not completely swallow what's fed to me. Cheers guys, nice interview 👍
I’m amazed a lot of other people didn’t cancel him after watching that special. It was so cringe and so hilarious. I absolutely loved it. Glad to have spent $15 to watch it.
No he should be canceled for trying to cancel the other youtuber when China asked him to. He is a hypocritical sellout
Just send ur cash to China they r one n the same
@@xiaonanw6374but he is cancelled by China. How is that work now? 😂.
Also, he is Malaysian and not mainlandernese
@@daisuke910 he chose to listen to the Chinese government in hopes of being bigger in their marketing. He failed. That was his stupidity, he should be canceled here for justice and karma
@@daisuke910 are u dumb bro?
I do like the fact that he refuses to take a political slant. That's clever marketing if it isn't true and downright beneficial if it is.
In his case he's refusing to BE a political slant

Uncle Roger is so Refreshing and honest. Funny guy.
Fukk u smoking. He is not honest at all. Bro he is on China side he tried canceling the dude for China and never even addressed it
Thank you uncle Roger & thank you Triggernometry. Finally, someone let English speakers understood the real CCP and what meant of Chinese style freedom. But fact is, the case is even worst than that.
Really is mental gymnastics and has to be soul crushing for comedians now who've got a presence online. However, what the cancel culture fail to realize is that when they try to cancel a comedian for a spicy joke, that comedian then becomes more well known and watch their specials just like with Dave Chapelle.
Dude!! Can't believe you interviewed Nigel. The best Nigel.
Countries that don't allow humor have no idea that that is how they become the joke. 🤦♂️
nobody is safe around free speech im all for it
Petition to get J.K Rowling on the show.
Signed!
It would be LEGENDARY.
YES PLEASE!!
Well spoken, articulate very funny what a great guy!
Really glad to hear this. Saw the Strictly Dumpling thing real time. Had no idea about all the Falungong deal and all that.
He has links to FLG events and stuff in his descriptions all the time as far as i can remember, though he's more prevalent in his involvement on the second channel.
Please come to Taiwan! Stand up comedy is getting popular in Taiwan now. It is probably the most open minded, free country in the Mandarin speaking world
When KK said he didnt think CCP would cancel people, he really had no idea.
shows what a bubble he lives in!
It's not really cancelling as we've come to know it in the west.
@@justme-hh4vp he doesn't strike me as someone in a bubble but it's all the more surprising given hes from Russia and Stalin was the OG cancelling
@@chrisbfreelance west cancel culture is only social. In China, there are social and government cancel culture. If worse come to worse like humiliating xi, they will jail you.
My 9 years old boy introduced uncle rogers video to me, he loves his humourous critic on asian food, thumbs up for Uncle Rogers making more people laugh
High 5 ! My kids intro Uncle Roger to me like 1 year ago and now I watch him more than them 😂
Somehow, I suspect Jamie Oliver was the mastermind behind all of this...
That chilli jam...
😂😂😂
That “green curry” ... that chorizo “ paella” .... ohww and that pseudo “ lasagne”.... 😅😅😅
No mention of the mango chutney... wtf!?
I love how organic this interview is!!! We all need this. Exactly!!! Make fun of everybody. That's comedy. I stutter - it gets better or worse - but if people crack a joke about it if I start up - I dont get offended if its funny. Humor and discrimination are 2 different things.
Fun to watch & informative. A fine interview.
You are very welcome to Taiwan!!!
There's a saying "有共不辱,愧對父母“, from a famous Taiwanese RUclipsr, 波特王. lol
Always great material! Keep it up.
As a Chinese mainlander,it’s good for you to give up the Chinese market
how so?
Uncle Roger is hilarious. Keep going!
Just discovered Uncle Roger. He is unbelievable . Good luck !
We don’t care if they cancel you Uncle Roger! From Philippines!
Screw you, quit being a hater. He's funny. QUIT BEING A HATER!
Good on you, lads, for posting this today
Uncle Roger not cancelled --- people (maybe outside China) love him even more.
Recorded June 4. That's today! Holy hell, that's quick turnover. Well done Anton!
Historically artists have always been the truth tellers. Its why art is so important even though the medium changes with time.
I love uncle Roger. Very glad to see this and get a peek behind the curtain.
Uncle Roger is the reason I bought a rice cooker albeit a budget but rice cooker none the less
Nigel's story needs to be seen on the big screen...either as a biopic drama and/or a documentary. Dave Chappelle should be involved, perhaps as the primary producer.
Love Uncle Roger! He's a great comedian and should get a bigger chance!
Lovely and funny man, just started following Nigel and I am impressed
That translated statement sounds exactly like what every other Chinese celebrity would issue when shit happens. But this is also what Taiwanese celebs who decide to work in Mainland China face and do... which really boils down to whether you want to pay the price.
Wow this is explosive information. Of all the Strictly Dumplings videos I watch, I have no idea that Mikey Chen is a member of Fa Lun Gong...I don't recall him ever mentioning anything in his food review videos. Sorry to hear that you have to go through that mess of a situation. It's like stepping on a landmine without knowing it.
He has links to FLG events and stuff in his descriptions all the time as far as i can remember, though he's more prevalent in his involvement on the second channel
I honestly try to avoid anyone involved with CCP and FLG. We don't need the psyop.
How is Nigel’s relationship with Mike Chen now since Nigel’s “apologies” to the CCP?
Very interesting to hear how social media works in similar ways in very different cultures and seems to amplify outrage everywhere.
Holy cow, thank you for reminding me of how much I love being American! (At least for now since many would like the prosecute their political enemies here.)
OMG!!! I am sooooo excited for this!!!!! I LOVE Uncle Roger!!!!!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
52:20 Wow Nigel brings up a seriously good point. I've never though of Andrew Tate like that. Now come to think of it he's basically a pro-wrestling heel on social media, never dropping keyfabe. All you gotta do is to not take him seriously and all of the sudden the shit that people get offended by becomes pure entertainment. He's just a guy saying crazy shit, shit you can't come up with yourself, and getting rich off of it. Good for him. The people that actually take his advice? Well, I'd assume Andrew Tate is not their main issue.
"His career started with fried rice and ended with a dumpling"....lol thats pretty funny
Uncle Roger's full comedy episodes are hilarious. He does the food reviews, working in restaurants and more. Get to see and hear from Nephew Nigel too. He has a full season you can watch. 👌🏽
That China comedy clip was golden. Damn that’s funny
Wowee my absolute favourite episode EVER. This is amazing 👏 🙌
Respect for Uncle Roger! Didn't know the full back story until now, great interview!
Uncle Roger is a full on China propagandist..
I love seeing the guys blossom when interviewing a fellow comic. This is a comedy show right now
Congrats Nigel! I discovered you this year and can't get enough of Uncle Roger. I live in LA, let me know if you need any help getting settled.
I started cooking egg fried rice because of him.
my summary: Nigel: I want to have something to do with China but it's just more trouble than it's worth. I'm successful enough now i'm just going to stop dealing with Chinese social media. I feel a bit sorry for Chinese entertainers who don't have the option though that seems rough.
That's because of the CCP. You can't be free with them.
tbh I was really put off by him when the whole dumpling fiasco happened, but seeing his side of the story really cleared things up. I'll probably start watching him again knowing what happened was just a case of miscommunication and arguably bad choices.
Hello mr chinese propaganda agent
@@mattias969 So having an opinion that's not blindly hating China classifies you as a propaganda agent. Cool buddy
Nah, he had his chance and blew it.
But the desire in the west to create a boogeyman along with Fulangong’s very real financial backing of these motives, along with an actual cultural genocide, have added so much fuel to the fire it overwhelmingly/disproportionately occupies the minds of westerners
Anyways probably too much of a deep dive lol, he definitely could’ve communicated it better I agree
@@Amaling He didn't try to apologize. That's where he failed his communication. Or more specificially his team fail it. They should realize that the post feel more like an apology letter. But i guess consider his team is mostly Chinese, they are used to apologize to Chinese hence they made that letter
