@bocatampere I love Tamu. ❤️. And while we are at it. Why are the greatest bassists on the planet Japanese women ? Misa. Fami . F Chopper Koga. And of course Haraguchi-san is crazy talented and absolutely adorable.
@@k3w1b3an5 Yeah, me too. And Yes! The musicianship is something else there. Since I discovered these Japanese All Female bands, I have never looked back. 30 years in rockbusiness here in Western World was enough for me, I thought Rock/Metal was dead but these bands saved my faith 🔥🤘❤️
Band-Maid is currently one of the best hard rock bands on the planet. Their live shows which they call Okyuji (servings) to keep with the maid cafe theme, are simply incredible. They routinely play for 2 hours or more. Their 10th year anniversary tour finale okyuji at Yokohama Arena was around three and a half hours long. They released a few official live videos from that concert that you may want to check out. Don't You Tell Me and Hate are straight up bangers with guitar vs bass duels, and Endless Story is a tear jerker ballad that even choked up Saiki and Akane since it was the last song of their 10th year anniversary tour. Also, they just released a collaboration with The Warning called Show Them which is a must listen. Some other song suggestions are Moratorium, No God, Rinne, Onset, From Now On, Without Holding Back, About Us, Play, Why Why Why, Clang, and Matchless Gum.
What amazed me after learning more about Akane is that she writes out her music longhand, and that solo has been practised probably fifty times. Band-Maid = Joy in the form of awesome rock music.
“Freedom” is their most performed song. Just a blast live. Akane’s drum feature, precise, 30 seconds, seamlessly integrated. Not technical and doesn’t have anything unusual, but they don’t solo for solo’s sake. It has to serve the song and the listener. Akane’s contributions in other songs are far more impressive to me: “Shambles,” “From Now On,” “Warning,” to name a few. She lives to double kick and skank beat you into submission. And if you notice, she doesn’t like to repeat her fills, so she’s as creative as it gets with such a small kit. “DICE” has some of her most clever hi-hat work. She could have made it simple, but simple is not “Gorilla!” ❤
Thanks for sharing! This band takes me back to the days when I was excited about rock music every time I hear them. It should be fun like this! I'm not interested in super technical players doing super technical things in rock music. I just get bored. All I need is a groove, a nice melody, uniqueness and a musical composition that exceeds my expectations. This band has it all. Fantastic!
Love hearing smart people with music knowledge react to the Maids. So many things I can't put into words about their music and performance I hear from you (and those like you) that have me saying "YES!" out loud. Great band, great react. AH-KAH-NEH! 🤘🤩
Excellent review. This rhythm section is so damn good. Love how you see it as your dream from the stage, when us, your audience sees it as a dream to BE IN the audience. Subscribed.
Mike, I have another recent live music video by Band-Maid I will suggest you react to. The live video on RUclips is labeled "Honkai" SPIN-OFF. The song is a banger of a rock song with an EPIC intro to the song by the "Thunder Buddies", Kanami, the drummer and MISA, the bassist. The best way to describe the song and its intro is "Funky Honkai!".
A somewhat very "easy" composed song for BAND-MAID. But I love the positive energy comming from this song. I have so much fun watching your reaction and your remarks. Thank you so much and i wish everything good for the new year. Greetings from germany.
This is the song that attracted me to Band-Maid -- just well-crafted fun. Talent, chemistry, musical variety, and sheer joy. And they have better -- e.g "From Now On" and "Blooming" (both MVs) and even "Domination" (Live from the same concert) and Puzzle and .... But Freedom is just great fun.
I like what you bring to the table musically, Mike. Nice job. I think that my favorite thing about Akane's playing is her writing of the drum parts. If you listen to a lot of their songs you'll find that she's constantly changing patterns, not just using a different one in one verse compared to another but also within the verse - she may do a pattern for 2 to 4 bars, but often that's it - honestly I don't know how she remembers her part. You'll notice that more on other songs than on this one however. BM is awesome!
Nice reaction, thumbs up! Fun to see reactors discovering new music like this. I think you should react to Band-Maid's "Domination" live video next, Akane has a mini drum solo in it!
I would also recommend the official live video for "Hate" by Band Maid for a glimpse into Akane's incorporation of double kick as a regular part of what might be her "signature groove" throughout an entire song.
Mike, glad you're enjoying Band-Maid. One thing I really like is they love playing together, and you can see that. I suggest you should do the official live version of Domination next, and after that the official live version of Hate. To tell the truth, there are just too many tracks to recommend. I think it's because I haven't heard one I wouldn't recommend. Have fun!
Mike , Thank You for continuing down the BAND-MAID Pigeon hole , Akane is the Happiest Drummer on the Planet , and Jimmy Paige thinks Akane is pretty good also , MISA !!! MISA !!! MISA !!! the Barefoot Bass Assassin , I`ve seen them twice live and its like that at there shows or OKYUJI which means Serving , they are MAID`s after all .
G-Wiz wait a minute, I know you. Dan Nelson here from Primary Records. Have you heard from Steve Naughton in the last decade? It looks like you are still in the industry, I pretty much only design venues and studios any more, mixing some small live shows for fun. I haven't done any recording for a long time. If we had bands here like these Japanese bands in the 2000's 2010's I would still be recording.
I have not heard from anyone in years. I had about a years long run with the band in 1991-1992 or so. That seems so long ago ha ha. So I am sure I am long forgotten. But it is a small world. These Japanese bands and others are what keep me interested and going in music for sure. I just keep on trucking. I do have a day job as well. But I do mostly corporate post production audio. Sound Design, ADR, Foley, recording and mixing. Sometimes production sound. Good to hear from you.
Hey Mike we are having a live Maidstream this Saturday night 10:00 pm est on Creativity Talkings reaction channel. It would be awesome if you could possibly stop by to say hi and help us support the Maids. 🍺😁🤘🏻🕊️
Is that a Mackie Big Knob on your desk? Love those, I use one in my home studio too. Freedom is a great song but from a drummer's perspective probably the simplest song they play. If you want to get a better idea of Akane's range, react to this live 2 song video that ranges from 70's style groove rock some to something I can only describe as chaos-metal. ruclips.net/video/iaf94nNSRGE/видео.html
Love this song! Band-Maid is my favorite group. All of these ladies are incredibly talented and they enjoy each other so much. Maidiacs are the happiest people on the planet! The energy with this group is off the chart! Akane is insane on the drums. Kanami slays it on the guitar. Misa on the bass is incredible and she can slap. Miku on rhythm guitar and backing vocals is perfect. Saiki is the queen bee of this group. Stellar performers!
Akane's solos inserted in the song are not meant to show off her technique, but fit naturally into the song without losing momentum. And her smile is full of energy. In short, it's the best.😀
Hello, thank you for introducing me to Japanese songs! With your love, I and the world were healed! This is an invitation to love to love, we receive love and are shining, we are shadows, only the head, the back is facing, crossing at the chest part! You don't have to look back and do your best anymore! The 5 worlds were healed! Put love in the middle of the X on your chest in the door, please! Love enters from the bottom, vibrates with the heart, puts that love into words, listens to it with your ears, turns it into the seed of the next love wish with your head, and returns it to the world, everyone is in a different order! If you don't exhale all your breath, you can't breathe in a lot, let's change all love with our breath! What you see is a shadow, spit it out and suffer, suffer, hold your breath, and dedicate all your great, vibrating love there! If you do that, both eyes will open and the door of X will open! This is the cross, the heart, the body, the soul, the three together, and put love in the middle! Everything is love first, the long-awaited theory of love, the theory of the sound of love, from the world of love alone to the world of logic, everyone turned upside down and completed it! The door to a new world has been opened! This is the achievement of us, all of us, the whole earth, the whole universe, and all the world, we are hope, we are the brave suffering of the front line, suffering is everyone's wish, sacrifice is joy, please listen to everyone's joy! Now, it's the finale, let's praise all the past and the future! The time has come to stand alone! You can resonate and shine by yourself! It's no longer in the shadows! It's a world where you don't have to be sacrificed even if you don't have to win each other! You can shine yourself and continue to dedicate your love! The wishes of the whole world will come true! No one is wrong! There is nothing useless! It's just that everyone's view is different! We only know part of it, so it's free and infinite, it connects both ends with X, it's ♾, this is 8 in love, 8 is YA- in Japanese! Now, everyone, let's fix the twist and look forward! The world is full of love and kindness! Please notice the love in your heart! I'm so happy every day that I can't stop crying because I want to offer it as soon as possible!
After discovering Japanese rock and metal I'm convinced every Japanese woman is an amazing drummer.
So true 🔥 Tamu from Nemophila is already my alltime favourite drummer. And never heard even ” average” drummer from Japan, they are all crazy good 🔥❤️

How many was the final count for 2024, Roger?
This is pre-Covid. Akane used the isolation to level up for a regular Gorilla to a Silverback!

Lots of folks miss the contribution of that bassist. Starting at 6:51 and then again at 7:56, Misa is doing some pretty special choices.
Congratulations on 1k , it will happen very soon
Thank you so much 😀
It's more like an extended drum fill, always staying within the rhythm of the song. Akane is hitting those licks throughout the song.
