You would be surprised at the shape of those distorted pieces of .22 lead I dug out. They were razor sharp and about a half inch long by 1/4" wide. Nothing I would want in my insides. They penetrated 250 pages of the hard covered books. Rather impressive for even a .22. .357 of course would blow right through th em and in fact with 5 shots I blew through them with the .22s.

The little guy is in my hand when I investigate something that went bump in the night. One night I heard a noise in the back yard. Good thing that little gun can hide in a pocket or I might have had some explaining to do.
jffrocks ..I have never, ever had a laser on any of my guns but your story has certainly got me thinking about one. Perhaps I should bite the bullet and invest in one of the new fangled devices :)
mixup98 The Crimson Trace grip I bought not only supplied a powerful laser, it is a slightly larger and more comfortable grip for that little revolver.
did about 70 rounds hollow point & regular, similiar range in northern WI - yes my hand hurt too - but if you are a small woman like me, it is essential to practice a lot with this as it does have a kick. Very comfy carrying in my purse or jacket pocket in riot central milwaukee
Thank you for the video.. My wife, for reasons I don't quite understand, wanted a lightweight .38 snubby revolver, and she really likes the Airweight. She is now learning towards a heftier 357 snubby revolver, SP101, loaded with 38 +P. I can see "us" owning a lightweight 38, once the gun & ammo situation settles.
I own the LCRx (LCR with an external hammer). First few rounds of 38 special sting and then oddly enough I get use too it and keep shooting. Haven't shot many +p's out of it put the few I did, not much difference. The hammer extends my accuracy at distance and overall I highly recommend the gun. Light as a feather and slips in almost any pocket.
+Ps do sting your hand a bit with the LCR, but you sure as hell don't want to be on the receiving end. I love mine because it's just so handy. Great little gun!
I could’ve bought other handguns for carrying but I just can’t bring myself to replace my LCR with anything else. It’s a great gun for it’s intended purpose.
I have this gun and about 15 rounds through it and I was like "Shit this thing hurts." It's very light and great for front pocket carry. Good news is in a self defense situation, I probably won't feel a thing. Empty the magazine :)
Nice video. Iv'e been looking at one of these as a conceal carry. That's some good looking country. I grew up in Wyoming and that's what it looked like.
I just bought one of these. It really isn't a gun you'd want to take to the range and shoot all day. It's the kind of gun you practice enough with to feel comfortable with using it as your EDC or even a BUG. It's designed for close SD distances, and does what it's designed to do quite well.
Thanks for the great video. The LCR .38 Special +P with a Hogue Bantam Boot Grip is my primary carry along with an LCP Max .380 as a backup. Both are excellent pocket carry guns. I am confident in my ability to shoot them both well at defensive distances.
Buffalo Bore has a lead 158grn HP that is made for Snubnose Revolvers. They have the same bullet in +P, it is almost like the old Treasury Load from the 1970s.
LINDY CORGEY , I read somewhere that 158g will blow the .38 lcr to pieces. Not sure if it's true though. Mine appears to have stainless steel chamber and I don't think it's possible. It's an easy mistake to purchase the wrong ammo in the correct caliber. I hope someone who has the data and experience can help out here....
I like a lot of things about the LCR. Great trigger, lightweight, carries very well. The carry melt helps it draw very smoothly. There's a nice aftermarket for grips and sights. Mine shoots better than a scandium J frame, but not as well as an aluminum alloy J frame. To me, the LCR is a little light to comfortably fire more than a handful of +Ps. I tend to carry the 130g Winchester Defend standard velocity rounds in it. Thanks for the video!
So here is my experience with my LCRx. I am going to post this on every Ruger LCR thread so that buyers can be aware of the issue I have had. I waited for the LCRx to come out in 327 Federal because I wanted the exposed hammer. Having tested the trigger in a local shop for both the LCR and the LCRx I was satisfied that Ruger had really come up with a smooth trigger. This particular shop only had the 38 Special and not the cartridge I was looking for so I ordered the LCRx in 327 from a internet based retailer. Upon receiving the revolver I found that the second half of the trigger pull in double action was sticky or in other words NOT SMOOTH. I called the retailer who sold it too me and told them about the problem. They said they would take it back but charge me a restocking fee of 20%. Of course at that point I was already out the shipping and FFL fees, OR I could send it to Ruger for them to fix under warranty. So I sent it to Ruger only to have upon its return, THE SAME Problem, AND after about 50 dry firings the cylinder locked up. Once again I sent it back, they fixed the cylinder problem but ONCE AGAIN, the trigger pull was unacceptable. So now it is on it's way back to Ruger...... for the third time My recommendation is to use a local dealer who has what you want in stock. If they don't and can order it for you, do so With the understanding that it must be delivered with the gun working properly in every respect before you pay for it. Further if you do order a firearm via the internet be sure that the seller agrees to take it back and reimburses you for shipping & FFL charges if it is not as represented. Beware that gunbroker.com had a fraud policy of up to $500.00 but it also has a 100.00 dollar deductible.
"A little snappy", huh? ;-) Biggest mistake people - women or elderly folks in particular - make in buying a first handgun for SD is buying something like this based on how nice and light and handy it feels at the store. Glad you demonstrated graphically how punishing it can be to practice with one of these little beasts, even if you did make it look easy (as always). Might save a few folks some money and/or frustration. I personally don't like shooting my comparable S&W "Airweight" revolver and only do so once in a while to maintain some memory in case I ever have to use it.
This is actually a viable option for elderly and other recoil-sensitive people, if you buy the .327 Federal version and load it with .32 wadcutters. They feel and sound like shooting a .22lr, but with an easier trigger (centerfire vs. rimfire) and better ballistics. 14-15” of penetration, with that flying hole punch effect a wadcutter gives.
Today, late 2021, I suspect most folks would buy the .357 Magnum version of the LCR with it's slightly heavier steel upper half (as opposed to the .38's aluminum one); and shoot .38 Special +P loads out of that instead.
Great review and great shooting. I have an S&W that weighs about 10 oz. It's a very accurate snub. It does start to get to my hand though after of box of just regular ammo. The +P is obviously more snappy. Recently picked up a Sig P238 380 and that is a whole lot more pleasant to shoot. Feels great in an ankle holster, too.
Hello Mixup98 That LCR really tore up your hand. I use a thin motorcycle leather glove on my right hand when I'm shooting a firearm that's tearing up my hand. I watch all of your video's and enjoy them all. It looks like you live in a real nice area. Please keep these nice video's coming. I loved the vid on the 100 year old Winchester that was found in the desert That was such a cool vid. And I must say your a really good shot..
I have been going back and forth with the lcrx 357 or the lcrx 38. The 3 inch barrel starts taking advantage of velocity potential of the 38 and 357. 357 lcrx is 21 oz. The lcrx 38 is 17 oz. After watching this I might opt out for the extra weight of the sp101 357. I want to be able to plink at the range and not have my hand hurt for days.
Usual great job on the video. I'm more than satisfied with my .38LCR & will testify 50 -or 75 +P's is enough for one day's shooting out of it. Tho standard .38spl is pretty comfortable in comparison.
I have the one with the hammer pull on it, does have a snap to it no matter the round. It’s not easy to put tons of rounds on it without feeling the effects but it is fun to shoot.
I have the Ruger lcr 38. I too hated shooting the +p though it. Then I went and put a set of pacmyer grips on it. The new grips are a little longer, allowing my pinky finger help grip. This did make a difference.
I've had this gun for a couple of years...my preferred carry gun. Got mine with the CT laser and grips. They aren't as "comfortable" as some of the softer rubber grips, but I like having the laser on it. I usually shoot 10 of the +P rounds on a trip to the range. Did 25 once and said "that's enuff"...can't imagine 80.You have some nice videos...just subscribed.
Welcome to my channel oldbandguy. I've never shot a handgun with a laser grip before...might have to do a video on one someday. Thanks for the sub and I appreciate you watching my videos. Please feel free to offer any advice or constructive criticism on my videos.
Good video thanks. I watched it before recently buying the 38 LCRx. I fire 38spcl but not +P. The 38spcl is an excellent round and will get the job done. I do not care for the grip that it comes with. I don't like finger indents in a grip. Also, it is a short grip so no spot for the little finger. This makes it slightly easier to conceal BUT harder (for me) to grab/draw under pressure. So I installed the Hogue grip that comes on the 357 Ruger LCR. This is a much better grip for me. It is 3/4" longer and has no finger indents. Yes, a little bit less concealable but waaay more 'obtainable and certain in the hand'. That 357 grip cost me $25 on Amazon from a reputable dealer. (The 357 grip may not be needed by everyone. My hand is fairly long 10" thumbtip to little findertip. ) .
Great video! Got a buddy that carries one the ones in 357 mag. I've never shot it, but I dry fired it and it is a smooth trigger pull. I'll bet its rough recoil with magnums!
Yes indeed, these light polymer revolvers generate a lot of recoil when shooting magnum loads. I'm guessing most owners carry +P ammo in these types of revolvers.
Going the extra mile for your viewers again, right Mr. mixup98? Let the rough end drag buddy! I so enjoy your videos and you have cinched it for me: I am gettin' me a Ruger LCR. From one mountain man to another-beautiful vistas behind you there. The one drawback for me would be the lack of water. We get between 45 to 55 inches of rain on average here in East Tennessee.
...yeah, it's pretty dry here in Nevada but I am blessed with beautiful landscape. Please let us all know what you think of your LCR after you buy and shoot it. Greetings from Nevada and Merry Christmas.
No doubt +P rounds in the LCR remind you it's a light revolver you should keep a grip on. Same thing with a S&W 642 Airweight...my two favorite snubbies.
I never like the revolvers because my father's service firearm was a 38 revolver with a hammer and he showed me how careless people get tangled with the hammer. I checked the LCR as you suggested and just simply fell in love with it. The weight the grip handle and without a hammer got my attention and simply bought a 357 LCR and now using it as my back up weapon. Thanks
Great shooting. I also have an LCR. I carry the +P, but I sure don't put 70 through it at the range. Fun gun to shoot and easy to carry, but pretty snappy at times. Still, as you have proven, it packs a punch at either short or long distances.
I just picked a 38 up that i won in a raffle. It shoots a little high but i love it. I prefer autos but im going to start packing this when summer comes
A friend bought that gun, I spent a little more and bought a S&W 442 PC. I made the better choice! Those little buggers are a little tough to shoot well!
My hand got tore up exactly like that the other day when i shot an M&p 40 compact with stippled grips....needless to say I sold it and bought a mosin, I’m pretty much done with 40 as a whole and was thinking of getting the lcr but it brought back some unpleasant memories haha great vid though you and my dad are like the best revolver shots in my memory
I grew up in Las Vegas and in 1977, on the day I turned 21, I didn't get drunk, I didn't gamble, and didn't go out and get a tattoo. I went to the local gun shop and bought my very first handgun, a little .22 revolver, and I've been shooting revolvers ever since. In the 1980s I did a lot of competition shooting with my revolvers and I'm proud to say that I won most of those shooting matches. I love revolvers, especially a good snub nose revolver. Thanks for the great question and I also thank you for taking the time to watch and comment on my video.
I have never seen someone shoot a gun till they bleed!!! I own the 357 model and can only shoot 15 round of it, my finger hurts so bad after that. Cant imagine the pain on your index after 80 shots never mind your thumb falling off. awesome!!
🥰🥰🥰 I have it in 327 magnum in 6 shots. I shooted 3 shots in double action were very accurate. I love it. I ordered 1911 too. Good feeling. I have many.

Really impressed with your accuracy from such a short gun.
I really admire your shooting skills. Great videos!
Thanks Rory....I appreciate you watching and commenting on my videos.
Just a excellent video on the Ruger LCR and all about ammunition I enjoy all his videos also if you could find one buy it they are hard to find 💯 👍
I have this gun and about 15 rounds through it and I was like "Shit this thing hurts."
It's very light and great for front pocket carry.
Good news is in a self defense situation, I probably won't feel a thing. Empty the magazine :)
Nice video. Iv'e been looking at one of these as a conceal carry. That's some good looking country. I grew up in Wyoming and that's what it looked like.
Had a ruger gp100 4 inch barrel loved that gun .sold it when times got tough .
Great down to earth video....I have same one...DOES STING A LITTLE...
3:47 when you want a normal soda from the vending machine, but they give you diet instead
I am going to post this on every
Ruger LCR thread so that buyers can be aware of the issue I have had.
Of course at that point I was already out the shipping and FFL fees,
OR
I could send it to Ruger for them to fix under warranty.
So I sent it to Ruger only to have upon its return, THE SAME Problem, AND after about 50 dry firings the cylinder locked up.
Once again I sent it back, they fixed the cylinder problem but ONCE AGAIN, the trigger pull was unacceptable.
So now it is on it's way back to Ruger...... for the third time
My recommendation is to use a local dealer who has what you want in stock.
If they don't and can order it for you, do so
With the understanding that it must be delivered with the gun working properly in every respect before you pay for it.
Further if you do order a firearm via the internet be sure that the seller agrees to take it back and reimburses you for shipping & FFL charges if it is not as represented.
Beware that gunbroker.com had a fraud policy of up to $500.00 but it also has a 100.00 dollar deductible.
Great advice.
"A little snappy", huh? ;-)
Biggest mistake people - women or elderly folks in particular - make in buying a first handgun for SD is buying something like this based on how nice and light and handy it feels at the store.
The trick is to buy the 357 magnum version and load it with 38s.
da Bob , Those are some good words, not attacking, but informative.
@@MegaAppleshit 4 oz's heavier is that correct ? i would try that
This is actually a viable option for elderly and other recoil-sensitive people, if you buy the .327 Federal version and load it with .32 wadcutters.
I feel some kinda way you shooting a bottle of my favorite drink mountain dew. shoot the drinks from the dollar store. lol
The best gun for self defense is the one you have with you and i find i leave my 4"357 home often, so one of these snub nose would be great.
I loved the vid on the 100 year old Winchester that was found in the desert
That was such a cool vid.
Damn fine shootin' there, Big Texas.
Thank you KingAlobar21 and I thank you for watching my video 👍🤠
Great video. I have the LCR in .357 and love it. Full .357s are not a lot of fun, but its a blast with 38s. I love the LCR
Daniel Lagunas , After I shoot my +p's I'll remember your pinky comment lol
That’s some fine shooting!! Great control
Thanks Robert !!!
My hand is fairly long 10" thumbtip to little findertip. ) .
I own several Hogue grips and it's the only brand I will on my handguns. Thanks for the advice and I also thank you for watching my video.
I can't say you didn't sweat and bleed for this channel...
Thank you sir for another great video always a pleasure watching them
Great video!
This gun beats S&W hands down. I recommend this gun, I own this gun. I am a hard person to please but I'm pleased with this choice 100%.
Thanks for the recommendation buddy and I also thank you for watching my video.
Why
I never like the revolvers because my father's service firearm was a 38 revolver with a hammer and he showed me how careless people get tangled with the hammer. I checked the LCR as you suggested and just simply fell in love with it. The weight the grip handle and without a hammer got my attention and simply bought a 357 LCR and now using it as my back up weapon. Thanks
A 357 snubbie is just... Why
Man your good with that LCR I bought one can’t hit a barn lol
Hello Albert. I've been shooting revolvers for over 40 years and it's about time I got good at it 👍😁
Great shooting. I also have an LCR. I carry the +P, but I sure don't put 70 through it at the range. Fun gun to shoot and easy to carry, but pretty snappy at times. Still, as you have proven, it packs a punch at either short or long distances.
Nice shooting and nice video.
Thank you RevV 45ACP.....much appreciated.
Some very good shooting there Mr. Mix. As always luv that Country. Till next time, take care.
Augie L ...thanks Augie. Good to hear from you.
You shoot really well and your videos are very enjoyable to watch sir. Hello from the state of Alabama. Keep shooting!
I have a Ruger LCR 38 and it does kick a lot ...to the point where you can feel it pretty good in a short time....
I just picked a 38 up that i won in a raffle. It shoots a little high but i love it. I prefer autos but im going to start packing this when summer comes
Third shot sent the green juice into outer space...
Excellent marksmanship sir
Going to be my carry revolver once I move to Arizona is a year or so. AZ has constitutional carry.
It's not a 4 inch K-frame or even a J-frame but those light weight .38s have their place. That is beautiful country out there!
A friend bought that gun, I spent a little more and bought a S&W 442 PC. I made the better choice! Those little buggers are a little tough to shoot well!
I agree that you made the better choice. The Ruger is a great little revolver but I don't know if I can ever get used to a polymer frame revolver.
Awesome video! love it, love it! You are truly a Patriot!
Thank you kindly Tony!
@@mixup98 Where do I need to go to support you financially, so that you can make more videos? Thank you, my Fellow American>
Question: how many rounds behind a *snub nosed revolver did you shoot before you became as bad Ass as you are?
I grew up in Las Vegas and in 1977, on the day I turned 21, I didn't get drunk, I didn't gamble, and didn't go out and get a tattoo. I went to the local gun shop and bought my very first handgun, a little .22 revolver, and I've been shooting revolvers ever since. In the 1980s I did a lot of competition shooting with my revolvers and I'm proud to say that I won most of those shooting matches. I love revolvers, especially a good snub nose revolver. Thanks for the great question and I also thank you for taking the time to watch and comment on my video.
@@mixup98 great response and you’re welcome
Nice shooting! I just purchased one of these.Seems like a nice firearm for close quarters defense.
Awesome job!
Jarhead6 ...thanks Jarhead :)
Nice, really like the background too. You lucky guy.
JackMc012552 ...thanks Jack, I really am a lucky guy living the dream here in Nevada and enjoying the 2nd Amendment.
I have never seen someone shoot a gun till they bleed!!! I own the 357 model and can only shoot 15 round of it, my finger hurts so bad after that. Cant imagine the pain on your index after 80 shots never mind your thumb falling off. awesome!!
Nice shoot'n Tex
Great video!
Awesome video, might be best I have seen
Got the Hogue longer grip that comes on the 3" LCRX and put it on my 2" LCR and now I can shoot all day with it.
🥰🥰🥰
I have it in 327 magnum in 6 shots.
I shooted 3 shots in double action were very accurate. I love it.
I ordered 1911 too. Good feeling. I have many.
Damn good shooting cowboy.
Thanks ghostcar :>)
lol Give me a mountain, with nothin to do, give me a mountain give me a BOOM! The same thing happened to my hand when I started shooting my s&w 442. After a while I just got another callus. I thought cool......another callus. Cool vid.
rick smith ...thanks Rick. And you're right, a callus from shooting is pretty dang cool. :)
