Bob, thanks for watching. That is a tough question. Both guns would serve you well. The LCR trigger is really exceptional for a stock trigger... also my subjective view is the felt recoil of the LCR is less than the S&W. But, I carried the 642 for years and really like it. I suggest you shoot both and select the one you feel fits you best.
Yes! Both are good guns. All about fit and feel to you and if you feel a lazer adds value. The rugers trigger felt better to me but it's a bit larger in the pocket. Whatever fits your had better... both would serve you well!
Thanks for watching. Hope you'll check out other vids on my channel and let us know what you think. I too own a sp SP101 and think the single action trigger is very nice. The DAO trigger on the LCR is one of the best triggers ruger has produced in my opinion. Much better than the DA on the SP 101.
Another good review on the Ruger LCR. I forgot about the bug activity in the rural northeast. Got spoiled living here in San Diego. Came close to pulling the trigger on purchasing a Bond Arms in .45 Colt. This revolver is starting to make more sense. JB
Thanks for the quick double action demo. I get sick of ppl reviewing defensive revolvers and firing single action like it's 1865 (yeah, I know the lcr is DAO).
Great quick review. Boy are those flies terrible or what. I am about to go to the range and fire my new LCR .38 special and wanted a little inspiration and thanks to you I am ready to see how it runs. Thanks
"Feels a little snappier" - that's an understatement! I just bought one. With Hornaday Critical Defense +P's it is a real chore to shoot. If you want the stopping power with an ultra light gun that's the trade-off. I didn't buy it for fun at the range. I had a Smith & Wesson Airweight years ago - same deal. Light gun, +P, bad kick.
I watch you Americans and your videos on carry pistols. And though I fully endorse the practice and wish we had the option here I still, as a gun person, can't imagine carrying a handgun from the logistical and comfort point of view in a CC holster everyday. I am 6ft so my size and clothing would mask a gun easily. But I don't know. For me this LCR would be more than enough gun for immediate protection. Good video as always.
I have this model revolver. It is very well made and easy to shoot. I prefer it over my air weight Chief's Special. I installed the full length non finger groove Hogue grips with the pebble finish and it is easy to get a "Granite Crushing Grip." No worries about recoil recovery.
i live down the cape i own the ruger lcr 38 i put a nice set of hogue grips on it i did not care for the laser grips that came on it it is a very nice light gun to carry thanks for the video
I have shot the SR9. I think its a good value for the money... but it's not as good as many other pistols on the market. Rugers are very strong and well made. However, the SR9 has many sharp edges, average sights and a mediocre trigger. IMO you're better getting a Glock, XDM or S&W. That being said, many people own the SR9 and like it.
Is it worth buying the LCR in .357 with the intent of firing 38 caliber because the .357 is about 4 ounces heavier and may mitigate some of that snappiness you referenced because of those extra few ounces? Not to mention it's more versatile being able to use two calipers if one really wanted to. Thanks.
This gun was made for and is excellent for close range self defense point and shoot use. It is not a long distance target gun. Use it for what it's made to do and you will be more than satisfied with it's performance.
My only complaint is the screw holding the cylinder release switch tends to back out, even while dry firing it. I put a little blue thread locker on it and hasn't been a problem for the last hundred rounds or so. Don't expect to have any more problems out of it.
BROTHERBRAIN 1, IM SURE GLAD I SEEN YOUR POST. I CHECKED MY LCR, AND FOR SURE THE SCREW HAD BACKED OUT, MABY HALF WAY. NEVER NOTICED THE SCREW BEING THERE.SURE TAKES UH MIGHTY SMALL ALLEN WRENCH. THANK YOU.
Dude, I couldn’t agree more. Every year there’s about 4 to 7 days where the small little black flies hatch and they’re everywhere. Or at least in that area of South Central New Hampshire.
Nice and informative video's, iMo: you are a good shooter because in the unfriendly condition (too many fly and bugs) you can still keep shoot your target very well and still can make a good video. Thanks.
Hello, I am considering one of these now but have heard of a concern of Flame Cutting, what are your thoughts and if I buy a used one and the Flame Cutting does become an issue do you think ruger will step up and help if the gun I buy is a used one?....Chris
Your best bet is to call Ruger and ask them. Usually they take care of their customers. Everyone I know with the LCR really loves it and has had great success.
Question now U have had it 4 while.Did the finish start 2 seperate? gotta chance 2buy used one w/nite site but finish is peeling ? I'm dirt Poorv DAV & its N my meager budget rang ?! ;)
I was thinking ofgetting the Ruger LCRx in 38 special. Would it be adequate getting the regular 38 special version, or get the 357 version which is heavier, to reduce recoil?
Great video! I have the LCR .357 and I shot some .38spl through it and I too was surprised at it's accuracy, considering it was my first time shooting it. I got the same size grouping as you did also at 5yds. This will be a keeper!
You didn’t mention anything about recoil. I have this gun and shooting +P defensive ammo out of it is nothing short of painful. If you are sensitive to recoil, you can forget this lightweight.
Sir, thank you for commenting. I do agree with you 100%. This is a pistol that is not fun to shoot. It’s really a last ditch back up . I agree with you it’s miserable to shoot plus peas through. Are usually prefer to carry something. like a Glock 48 or Sig 365. I appreciate you watching the video. I hope you will consider subscribing to the channel and sharing it with friends and family.
So I paused the video right on one of the bugs. It seems you have a serious mosquito problem. Don't want to get yourself sick. I'd install a bug zapper. Or shoot explosive bullets more often. haha
never owned a Ruger........... S&W 29-2 sent back to factory timing issue, S&W 686 sent back to factory timing issue.......... Sick of S&W how and what are Rugers issues..............PS got rid of them both.........
Nice grouping I think you broke his back?Ha I have a real problem hitting the target with double action revolvers, i have a .357 SP 101 I like shooting it? when i cock the hammer back 2 pound pull i am dead on, I think the double action is 10 i may buy a kit to lower it, I keep it in are bed room night stand my wife like a revolver she can not pull the slides back on my other guns. I may want her to try that 38 with a hammer. well enjoyed the video, man those flies must drive you crazy. lol
+John Avelis Jr. Lol...looks like a Biblical apocalypse! They don't even scatter from the gun blast- You must love all living things b/c I'd put up a huge bug zapper+do some bug busting-
The bugs are nasty but the LCR is sweet! Thanks for watching.

Will do! Thanks for watching...
Another good review on the Ruger LCR. I forgot about the bug activity in the rural northeast. Got spoiled living here in San Diego. Came close to pulling the trigger on purchasing a Bond Arms in .45 Colt. This revolver is starting to make more sense. JB
Good choice! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the quick double action demo. I get sick of ppl reviewing defensive revolvers and firing single action like it's 1865 (yeah, I know the lcr is DAO).
Both are good guns. I own the SW BG and have only borrowed the LCR. I trigger on the LCR is excellent! Hope that helps.
Great quick review. Boy are those flies terrible or what. I am about to go to the range and fire my new LCR .38 special and wanted a little inspiration and thanks to you I am ready to see how it runs. Thanks
Thanks! I appreciate you watching.
thank you for the video, I'm loving Ruger LCR

geeeze, just watching the video with the flies is tough!! Great job, dealing with adversity through the shoot!!!
Really like my LCR great carry, grip outstanding! Enjoy
It was no fun making that review! Thanks for watching.
Great video...holy shit about the flys!
Black flies are crazy these last few day here in NH. Also I really like my LCR.
the flies will go away if you wrap the corpse in plastic and you wont have to keep stepping over it if you drag it to the dumpster
+GARANDWIZARD LMAO!!!

i couldnt even watch the whole video bc them bugs were annoying the shit out of me

Great video you are truly "lord of the Flies"
I guess I can cross New Hampshire off of my list of places that I would like to live. I've never seen so many flies. Mercy!
I pretty much agree with your assessment here.
Just one thing, I've noticed if the barrel is kept clean the shells slide out nicely.
Great feedback thanks for commenting
damn those flies been all over the place.nice shooting, I love the ruger revolvers, secially the populars as the LCR
i live down the cape i own the ruger lcr 38 i put a nice set of hogue grips on it i did not care for the laser grips that came on it it is a very nice light gun to carry thanks for the video

Misquitos get pretty bad in New Hampshire too! They'll drive you nuts.
you should do a LCR vs. S&W bodyguard or 642
Holy black flies Batman!
Great vids. How do you like the S&W Shield?
I just bought this gun and thanks for your videos
Very helpful video! Thank you!
Any chance you can do a review on a ruger sr9 and maybe compare it to an m&p 9?

great video might be getting this to carry in MA
dont get nervous around the black flies. keep on shooting brotha
It's only when the flies get in your mouth or nose does it become a problem~
This gun was made for and is excellent for close range self defense point and shoot use. It is not a long distance target gun. Use it for what it's made to do and you will be more than satisfied with it's performance.
Agree 100%. It's one of the better .38 snubbies out there!
"The trigger comes straight back at ya", that's weird, mine goes off to the side.
Would you recommend this gun for home protection

Glad I could help. Other than that, it seems to be a solid piece of craftsmanship.
You have a crazy amount of black flies. Wow.
If it makes you feel any better, I really don't mind the bugs.
A couple of cans of yard guard spray will take care of them flies
I believe a fly swatter would be useful there.
Great review!
Do you have the standard hogue grip on it? Comes out of pocket ok?
Holy cow, what is the deal with the flies?

Yes, and an Infidel ;-)
I'm a Catholics and I'm not judge everyone is an infidel or not. But trully I'm very like the video's.
Love the review!
+Gene Williams Thank you, sir
The Shield is fantastic. Just amazing. Check out my video review of this on this channel.
Ruger LCR or Smith and Wesson Bodyguard?

All of my guns have wear on them, and I don't care. This gun is fine.
+Guns, Gear & On Target Training, LLC would you recommend this gun for a new female shooter who wants to be a ccw?
how reliable and durable is it?
Would you go with the 38 special or the 22 magnum? Is one round more expensive than the other? Thanks!
.22mag box of 50 goes for about $19.
I was thinking ofgetting the Ruger LCRx in 38 special. Would it be adequate getting the regular 38 special version, or get the 357 version which is heavier, to reduce recoil?
how many bugs did you eat?
Great video! I have the LCR .357 and I shot some .38spl through it and I too was surprised at it's accuracy, considering it was my first time shooting it. I got the same size grouping as you did also at 5yds. This will be a keeper!
is it normal to hear a raddling noise
Gambit420 Josh thats the ruger rattle. transfer bar is given some play, hence the rattle. its supposed to be that way
does this gun use .38 regular and plus P?
This gun is rated for +p but not much fun to shoot with the +P rounds.
You're a good shooter...followed
Many thanks, sir. I hope you'll check out more of our videos on the channel.
Nice video!!
Your ejector rod will get better as it breaks in, mine is fine now.
Should have recommended a fly swatter
All those moths look like an Alfred Hitchcock movie
Good for you. In So NH we have a week of "black flies" in may or june... pesky bastards!
omg the bugs are everywhere! making ME itch
Good vid but I could only watch a couple minutes. Those flies in the lens in maddening.
You didn’t mention anything about recoil. I have this gun and shooting +P defensive ammo out of it is nothing short of painful. If you are sensitive to recoil, you can forget this lightweight.

Just bought one and noticed it rattles a bit. Is this normal?
Yes; many commenters in other videos have said the same.
NICE GUN....
Thumbs up great vid
How do you breathe through the swaths of flies?
never owned a Ruger........... S&W 29-2 sent back to factory timing issue, S&W 686 sent back to factory timing issue.......... Sick of S&W how and what are Rugers issues..............PS got rid of them both.........
4:28 oops let one slip

Need some bug spray? Those Flies look ridiculous.
That's a serious amount of bugs, you need one of those propane things.
those bugs are bugging me
Just picked up a LCR. More importantly, what's the deal with the flies? Gross.......
Those flies are making my nose itch. Good shooting video though. Maybe find a "fly shot" load?
Good idea... those black flies are obnoxious.
damn bugs everywhere!!!! lol
+Aliya Malik The blackfly is the Maine State bird.
+John Avelis Jr. Lol...looks like a Biblical apocalypse! They don't even scatter from the gun blast- You must love all living things b/c I'd put up a huge bug zapper+do some bug busting-
Why are you talking so loud?
+ctiger69 Talking over the sound of a billion flies isn't easy-
This is the reason there are so many flies.
Search google for "Bats dying from White-Nose Syndrome on East Coast"
good one wish u might need to screen that range in ....lol
Yea how's all those bugs flying in your mouth taste? This would be considered THE most miserable day
