I agree I could of just sanded that cherry and thrown a finish on it and it would have been a treasure without doing anything else to it. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍😎
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍yes I spend most of my time searching for wood logs or old home remodels. I just recieved a headboard that I am going to chop up and make a segmented bowl out of.
It was so weird I could hear the wood just let loose crack. I didn't know if it was going to hold together and I got nervous. But all in all the cherry is so pretty . Thanks for watching and commenting 👍😎
I guess we call this a platter? It is beautiful indeed. Seen this idea being done several times already and each time it looks great. Doing a segmented bowl or platter like this is hereby on my todo list!
I called it a player because it is not very beep. Yes I have seen a few people do this and as you I have been wanting to try it. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Wow, nice project, good luck with that glue joint. I'd like to see another platter with just the cherry crotch, that's a gorgeous starting point with that giant slab. Nice video!
Thank you. Yes I was blessed to have gotten quite a bit of this cherry. Looking forward to many cherry projects over the next few years. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍😎
That has some amazing grain and colour in the cherry and love the walnut addition , its a perfect choice of wood to compliment the cherry Beautiful pice of work mate !👌
This is a very nice piece of wood Luie. And you have made a beautiful platter out of it. The walnut inlay makes it special. But without the walnut it would undoubtedly have turned out a beautiful platter too. 👍Frank.
Hi Luie... really beautiful platter... the Cherry wood is lovely and the Walnut makes it look very special... I wish we used Walnut door linings in the UK... its always pine... you are lucky with your supply of lovely hardwoods in the US... your achieved a beautiful finish... well done... take care...All the best.....Andy
Thanks I got lucky with those door jams and some molding. I found some guy who was remodeling an old home and didn't realize what he was throwing away. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍😎
Awesome bowl/platter Luie, the strip of Walnut looks amazing too. I hope it does not move too much on you and thank you for sharing this. Keep on turning. Cheers, Bluey 👍
The cherry was just beautiful. This was fun little project to throw up in my shop shelf so if she wants to crack an move it's ok with me😊 Thank you so much for your constant support and kind words 😎👍
Very nice... I know what you were feeling before chucking it up. Nice piece of wood and you don't want to be the one to ruin it. I feel that way a lot. This piece turned out gorgeous.
Hi Luie, You said it perfectly, it is gorgeous!!!! Amazing figure in the Cherry and the Walnut sits in it perfectly. Great work Luie. Take care my friend. Cheers, Huw
I have really liked a lot of the projects you have done, Luie. This one, however, is without a doubt my favorite. The figure in that cherry is just absolutely stunning! Well done, my friend. You asked about an upgrade kit for your bandsaw. I upgraded mine about 2 1/2 years ago. I got the upgrade kit from Carter products. I am incredibly happy with the difference it made but I must say the kit was not cheap! Check them out; it may be what you’re looking for. Great video, my friend!!! 👍👍👍👍
Wow! Thanks I agree the cherry has a lot of figure. Too bad it started cracking as I was turning made me nervous to give it a little more depth. Thanks for the lead on band saw. I had ordered what seemed to be a nice kit but the company kept giving me the run around. I will check out your lead, thanks for watching and commenting 👍
So I just checked Carters web site and they had exactly what I think I need and at the price I was expecting. So I placed my order. Thanks again for the lead
Looks great Luie and a great use of the Walnut door jam. The Cherry had some fine figure in it as well. I noticed you seem to be running your lathe from a pendent. Did you put a different motor on the lathe. It appears to have variable speed as well. If so I am guessing DC motor or perhaps a VFD, Just curious I love that type of stuff. Great video, Gary
Hello and thank you for watching and commenting. Nothing that fancy I'm afraid I purchased a Router control from harbor freight it helps but doesn't turn it down to zero. 👍😊😎
There is a short bed extension on back side of lathe that along with extension arm on banjo. Hope that make sense-? Thanks for watching and commenting 👍😎
Beautiful platter Luie! Great contrast between the walnut and cherry. Question - The Highlander banner on your wall ... where is that from Please? Take care, Dave
G'Day Luie. Love the bowl and the strip of Walnut. ??? YOU USE WALNUT AS DOOR JAMS ??? Damn I'm in the wrong country. As Gary from "ThePapa1947" mentioned about the variable speed. I'm in the process of adding some electronics to my lathe to hopefully do just that. Any chance of doing a quick video on that, or your thoughts? Rob

Very nice Luie
"A few hour to dry" Over here in the UK that would take 24 hrs to dry
Well dry enough to unclamp it
I let it dry overnight before I start turning

Well it does seem to help. Sometimes being able to change the RPM even 50 less or more get a piece turning smoother.
@@ThePapa1947 oh yeah I have been able to turn pieces that were impossible before
Great video! I’m glad we found you!
When turning perpendicular how is your banjo (tool rest) mounted?
There is a short bed extension on back side of lathe that along with extension arm on banjo.
