The beauty of the natural facets of this piece is amazing. I do enjoy when you include them in the finished piece even though it makes them tough to turn. Catching up on my video backlog, slowly.
Good job, buddy! This Cherry gave you some resistance but, you overcame it like a champ! I have a Cherry bowl coming up and it has some of those same dark areas. I've turned a lot of Cherry but never seen that before and now yours has it, too. Almost looks burned. Anyway, I really like the live edge on this one and the finish is great as always! The crotch feather is another great feature, too! Just a really nice turning, my friend, keep'em coming! 😀 Phil
Thanks Phil. I always wonder about those dark spots. Some kind of stain from the pith? For sure I was feeling the pain in my hands and wrist. Looking forward to see what you have coming soon.' Thanks for watching my friend, Gary
Beautiful bowl Gary! Really cool features you pointed out with the dinosaur and cat also , looked like a baby brontosaurus 🦕 and the color is perfect for the cat as a Garfield cat! Enjoyed the video 👍
Good afternoon, Gary. I really enjoyed watching this bowl go through the process. A lot of chips at the beginning but enjoy the journey. When the beautiful grain comes into focus is a time for smiles. The hollowing can test the nerves but the reward when final wall thickness is achieved is with the challenge. You are very successful with your finishing process. Time to watch a great project spin on the turntable for a while. Very nice. Ray
Your teasing me Gary, that's a beautiful piece of cherry, my favourite fruitwood, that has got some great pictures inside and outside, lovely finish top job. All the best from Lincolnshire UK

Beautiful Gary! Looks like marble from some angles. Stunning colour and grain! Last summer I made friends with an Okanagan cherry orchardist. He has been saving me pieces from his trees that either have to come down or get hard pruned. He even painted the end grain and keeps them under tarps. Looking forward to collecting some this spring! Cheers, Rick
Thanks Rick. Now that is a good friend! My nephew got ahold of me a few weeks ago and had some Black Walnut for me. You will hear more of the story soon. Not really a good story for all though. Thanks for watching, Gary

Great skill demonstration, Gary. That is a lot of challenges to get to your find result. It seems so rich in colour and figure. Though, I'll admit, I don't often see the images you do in there. Good work! 😊
Fun stuff. Cherry is one of the woods that I work with the most. Because I have Black Cherry growing behind my house. Even before I started turning, I made bowls out of it, and boy was that hard work. Now with the lathe, the bowls are much deeper and rounder. I really enjoy the lathe. Between you and Phil Anderson l, I've learned a lot about this stuff. So thanks for the free education. Of course, I learned even more by making mistakes and having to figure out what to do with them. But having examples on RUclips is such a blessing.
Thank you William. Sounds like fun making a bowl without a lathe but it can be done. Learning is a great thing. I am always looking for something new to learn. And not just turning stuff. Thanks for watching, Gary

A beautiful piece of cherry, my favorite turning wood. I usually saw my crotch pieced in half and end up with shallow bowls or platters. I may try your technique on the next one. Crotch wood usually has an interesting and beautiful grain structure; it's more work (sometimes a lot more) but is generally worth the effort and time. This piece will continue to darken with time . It’s a beautiful bowl, Gary, there is so much going on in the grain. I think leaving the bark on that size bowl really added to the attractiveness of the piece. A question for you, if I may, what angle do you grind your negative scraper at? Thanks for another great video.

@ been watching a lot of your old videos since I got my second knee replacement last Monday. Appreciate having them to watch. I think you are one of the best turners on utub
Very nice piece. I love the grain pattern within a crotch and try to emphasize its presentation in the finished item. It’s good to hear that those pieces are difficult to turn and it’s moot just my inexperience. Also hearing it took an hour of sanding (is that a new sander?) is really helpful. Thanks
Thank you Lee. Yes these pieces can be really hard to turn. I could not believe how it kept trying to snatch the gouge out of my hands. It is easy to say that the piece looks good after 15 minutes of sanding but in this case it is not even close. I feel sanding to be the most important thing to the piece looking good at the end. A perfect finish over a poor sanding job just highlights how bad the sanding was. But you know that. Yes I broke down and bought a cordless. I kept the corded one plugged in and hung it at the end of my lathe. I can count how many times it tried to trip me LOL. Extra batteries for these must be made of gold LOL Thanks for watching my friend, Gary
@@ThePapa1947. Funny, I have my corded one under my Laguna as well. Waiting for “Worx” to produce an angle drill so I can use my batteries across all my stuff

Lovely bowl. I have had a couple of similar cherry crotches in my wood store for about 5 years waiting for me to pluck up the courage to turn them. Maybe you've inspired me.
Thank you Tony and it seems it has waited long enough to get on your list. I have had a few of those and still have more under my pole building. Might be time to grab one.
Thanks for watching,
Gary

Really nice piece. I wish I could get my hands on full round logs here that weren’t completely littered with cracks.
Thank you very much. I have another similar to this and then one full of cracks. Still have not figured out what to do with the one with cracks.

Nice job. No cherry available here in Texas but I just acquired 10 black walnut crotches. Looking forward to seeing what is inside.
Thank you Doug. Well 10 black walnut crotches seems like a good tradeoff.

Beautiful, Gary. There's too many features to be able to name all of them.
Bill
Thank you Bill. Yes there are lots of them in there. I saw a snake in there this morning and figured it must have crawled in last night LOL
It’s a beautiful bowl, Gary, there is so much going on in the grain. I think leaving the bark on that size bowl really added to the attractiveness of the piece. A question for you, if I may, what angle do you grind your negative scraper at? Thanks for another great video.
Thanks Kent. My NRS is ground 40 degrees top and bottom. This gives it less than a 90 which is recommended.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Beautiful bowl, Gary. 😊😊
Thanks Rob. It is not Black Walnut but Cherry wood is right up there.
That said I think I will start a Black Walnut turning today with an interesting story behind it.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
@ nice Gary. Chery is definitely top 3.
Gary by the bark inclusion it looks like a baby calf suckling. The other one I saw a ferret. Nice job young man
Thank you Kevin. Seeing these images can be lots of fun. I need to write them down because before I know it I see something else LOL
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Very pretty
Thanks Marty I appreciate you watching,
Gary
Extra batteries for these must be made of gold LOL
Thanks for watching my friend,
Gary
@@ThePapa1947. Funny, I have my corded one under my Laguna as well. Waiting for “Worx” to produce an angle drill so I can use my batteries across all my stuff
