Still remember those days. Those 24 overs that Jimmy and Kirti bowled in tandem in which they strangled the batsmen, also took 3 wickets was one of the turning points....
Also the way that Yashpal Jimmy and Sandip batted
The game ended at just about 10.30 - 11 pm. Nostalgic

Absolutely stunning and comprihenvsive victory of young Indian team.We could not see it in DD the only Indian channel at that time to telecast. We used to see matches on TV of neighbors at that time because most of parents at that time were against purchasing TV by considering it disturbing element which can divert attention of students from study. We could only dream to see it on coloured TV which came true now. All wish to see golden knock of 175 not out of Kapil dev which is still missing on media

Sad to hear that Shri Yashpal Sharma from the team is no more. But what a game he played. Phenomenal. 1983 will be remembered and cherished.

Gavaskar doesn't even look at the Umpire before walking; Randall insists that he hasn't caught the ball; the fielders accept the Umpire's decision over the attempted runout of Armanath, even though the replay shows him out of his ground; a mid-pitch conference between Patil and his smiling captain, obviously to do with whether he can get his fifty. Cricket before the bastard technology. England batted poorly after the first two - Gower unreliable as usual - and India's line and length superb. Never enough runs even in those days. I'd like to see more of Armanath's batting.

This semi final and the final, and winning the cup all led itself from Kapil's match saving innings against Rhodesia. He pulled victory out of the jaws of defeat and kept them in the tournament. This 83 world cup essentially announced India as the world cricket superpower it is today. Take away that Kapil Dev innings against Rhodesia, things might have been different. Most certainly they would have been knocked out of this tournament and hence they would have been no world cup victory. India's greatest cricketer - Kapil Dev.

I like the way Our team murdered England Team"s ARROGANCE , as before this match all english reporters & there supporters assumed that england team will enter to final easily . Salute to Kapil Paji"s team & team efforts . Sandip Patil hitted 3 or 4 boundries to Bob willis in one over . I heard running commentary on radio .

Srikkanth played in the wrong decade. That man was made to play T20s. His hitting and anticipation was excellent even back in the day. People came to watch Srikkanth smack the ball and Gavaskar for his technical correctness and technique

yeah and that was also because the then indian team never imagined getting that far in the world cup. Kris Srikanth and some folks revealed it in their reunion ceremony. They were there to just enjoy the game and do shopping. But things started taking serious turn after they defeated windies in one of their league matches. That’s when the awakening happened and they fought with all grits and strength to win the cup eventually.

When did India lose its bowling track??? 1983 team had Kapil, Madan Lal, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Roger Binny …and Amarnath for backup. Man… love these men ! Champion stuff. Also, no Six pack abs, but these men were fit as a fiddle. Amarnath, Kapil, Patil, Yashpal Sharma etc look lean, mean fighting machines

Krish Srikant though he was not as stylish as others but in my view probably he was the innovator of the playing over the top as opener. What a stroke maker and fearless batsman he was but unfortunately he is underrated I think even in India.
