I have a 2017 Honda Accord touring v6 in black, I remember coming up at a stop sign to get onto the highway. With so much traffic I hit my foot on the gas and floored it so I can merge and, while going from 0-60 onto that highway which has an overpass bridge , I could hear my vtec kick in while going under that bridge. It was the scariest and sweetest sound youll ever hear.
The first car that was ever truly mine was a 1998 Accord V6. It has a 3.0L VTEC engine that, when originally sold, produced 200 HP. I say "has" because it's still running after over 270k miles. I'm not sure I could have bought a car for about $3,500 that offered a better driving experience and was still quite reliable.
It’s funny. My dad and I both had the Honda ridge line pickups. No one believed they had any guts until at about 4500 rpms the VTEC kicked in and reminded people that it was indeed a Honda. Gotta love that system. I’m going to modify my wife’s odyssey just for kicks and giggles.

I love VTEC!!! Maybe it’s because I have an AP1 S2k. I’ve had 2 CL’s an Integra and have driven a few other VTEC Honda’s and Acura’s. The s2000 is definitely the most intense at the point where that shit kicks in. When I first bought it, I couldn’t believe how much it kicked in. It sounds pretty crazy and it starts pulling quite a bit harder. I’d love to get a hold of an NXS. I bet they do the VTEC thing proper.
The value of vtec left with the low displacement high rpm engine. By 2000 everyone had variable valve timing to improve performance, but instead of using it to get a gutless motor to make a lot of horsepower they did it bring down the peak torque of NA motors and extend the torque curve.
My first car, a ‘91 Integra, didn’t have VTEC, and I was so jealous. I’ve only ever owned Hondas, but my luck hasn’t fully cooperated, because my ‘17 Civic Hatchback also doesn’t have VTEC. I went from one too old to have it to one too new to have it. Maybe someday I’ll get to pick up an S2000 or something!

My 2001 Celica GTS has Toyota;s version. Certainly fun when it goes into lift.
I got an 05 Matrix XRS and I hit lift everyday basically lol I caught a v6 camaro sleeping as I hit the on ramp lmao only got ported headers and a SRI. Exhaust and reflash in the future so i can enter lift around 5800 or 6k and keep limiter at 8200 to be safe lol
@@jamescordeiro4939 better hope you have an oil pan baffle for those long right turning on ramps tho :o
Got a 03 gts just got it and i felt vteck I messed around with plenty of hondas but with Toyota’s “lift” it feels completely different when it kicks in I must be crazy but the 2zz vs k20 needs to be looked into more
I've ridden in a Honda with V-tech and when compared to the turbo in my VW it doesn't feel as fast, it's louder but it doesn't accelerate as hard, but in terms of slow cars it's pretty fun
S2000 VTEC here. Fun.
Man, am I drunk. Should’ve never done all of those shots… 🏁🇯🇵
I've got the v6 with the intake side vtec, although it's the 'fake' version, it makes the family car accord feel like a totally different car past 5k rpm
I have the V6 with dual VTEC (J37A4) and it isn't much better. We have tiny cams to begin with lol.
Fake? 🤣
It’s still vtec. But because it’s a v6 it can’t go at very high rpms
@@grecopaok It's not that different, my redline is 6900 instead of the i4's low 7k. I call it fake vtec because it only opens up intake valves as the rest of the sohc is taken up by the vcm system
@@zaydabbas1609 you need to understand how it works. Sohc vtec is still vtec just like evo 9 had mivec on intake cam only and new type r has it on exhaust cam only…. They are different systems for different power bands etc
I'm just happy a Cr-Z made it into the B-Roll
I got a k20 in my civic fn2 type r (ivtec) and i absolutely love it
Oh man how much I miss the old school Vtec, nothing sounds more pure than an s2k or even the 8th gen SI as well as the Integra/Rsx type S ….Although, I’m glad the FK8 Type R is boosted! Checks every box for me hands down! 🙌🏽
Everyone went turbo so honda had to. Gone is the high revving vtec motors we all loved.
Bought a brand new 94 Integra GSR back in the day....it was awesome to zing it from 6000-8000 rpm. Friend that had an Accord wouldn't believe me that the GSR could rev to 8000 until I demonstrated and he was literally amazed because his frame of reference was his Accord.
Vtec is the way! That pronounced crossover is addicting. Sure its not the fastest thing.. not even close, but it sounds heavenly and i gotta hit it multiple times a day 😍😂
VTEC is fu*king awesome. Period.
Step 1: Get yourself a cheap-ass Honda as your first car
Step 2: Swap in some random VTEC engine from a wrecker + a matching ECU
Step 3: ETERNAL PROFIT
Your car may still be slow by todays standards, but cracking open those second lobes feels *awesome*. And what is more important than what we feel when we drive our cars, anyways?
Even for those who they think is just noise and bs by time they get to experience one, automatically an smile comes to their face without even notice it lol, not only the sound but light weight makes them handle amazing, you don't need more to have tons of fun.
Vtec in my prelude was awesome sound. Full exhaust n headers with the cold air intake.. fun car..
I'm in the process of getting the parts together for a D16Y7 Y8 VTEC mini me swap and turbo with forged internals for my 97 Civic Coupe.
I have a h22a integra and I’m fixing my vtec switch rn but when it was working 😳 I was so amazed.
I remember having my 05 rsx type s that I Vtec with just an intake was no joke 😁
Exactly why people choose Honda/Acura vehicles.
Chose
FiggyG 69 lol what
@@tyhyhh Honda doesn't do VTEC anymore
@@G.Bfit.93 only earth dreams🥲
But if you want to be technical, the fk8 Type R had vtec on the exhaust cam only.
@@jeremysantos4753 sooooo, not VTEC. And yes we can dream. Hopefully the new Integra is actually an Integra and has VTEC.
Thanks y'all for that absolutely fire content. Every single video is being savored upon release
Appreciate the love fam!
Boosted prelude here. I absolutely love VTEC.
I have VTEC on my bike, it’s the best. (2004 Honda VFR800)
I own a 95 delsol, with b16a3, i love it, engine rebuilt, 9200 rpm redline!!!
I got a b20b JDM high compression with a 16a2 V-tec head and an EM1 trans......it will never be over played...i give you the sauce
It’s funny. My dad and I both had the Honda ridge line pickups. No one believed they had any guts until at about 4500 rpms the VTEC kicked in and reminded people that it was indeed a Honda. Gotta love that system. I’m going to modify my wife’s odyssey just for kicks and giggles.
V-Tech will always be awesome👍🙌
i love my s2k so much and it makes me more excited for the k20 im gonna drop in my miata
ill never forget hitting vtec in my b16 crx in the late 90s. good times.
I'm 36 an been in the Honda game since I was 14. I had a crx si 89 , I remember welding motor mounts to swap a b18 in.
my first car ever was a 93 Prelude in red picked it up for 3,500ish$ off a dude in Calgary in late 2015. I wish I still had that thing, it was such a fun little car!
Need more VTEC! 🏎️
Coming home from school and turning on TV to be bumpin' music while making food was the good times
Had a JDM Integra Type R DB8 unicorn for a bit,and mated to that gearbox it was nippy! It sounded great. The B18C4 from another Honda VTi makes great power when boosted because of VTEC too.
I was a blessed 5yr old when vtec came out. Knew my future grocery getting was bright!
love vtec, just got my honda civic 1.6 vti f1 about a mont ago, enjoying it every day :D
Even my little egg of a honda Fit has vtec and I *LOVE* it.
Besides vtec
The second greatest lift was on the corolla and matrix xrs of 2003 06 models
Yamaha engines vvtli
My mom rented a customized one with a downpipe and flame decals. I was the coolest kid in the car loop in 3rd grade 😎
MOAR VTEC videos please. Like, tell me things about the I-VTEC, FA5 specifically. For the glory of 8th Gens. Are they the "last true vtec" or do they mark the end of the era before. Lot of knowledge in this video, thank you.
Just saw a Suzuka blue S2000 today, me and the guy had a ball takin tech. it was super clean with the Cr looking oem spoiler. 17s w/ hankook v12s... ❤❤❤
Alex’s WPM vtec kicked in yo!!
I have a jdm ep3 and absolutely love it!
so, overall, which is the best? (most reliable/best performance)
5 mins into "take a shot for every V-tech" I died from alcohol poisoning
Bro that vtec in my k20z3 8th gen🥴 I swear to soichiro that launch from 2nd to 3rd could shoot me to space🤣🤣🤣
yes
K20c2 the Last Legit VTEC OR I-VTEC!
The value of vtec left with the low displacement high rpm engine. By 2000 everyone had variable valve timing to improve performance, but instead of using it to get a gutless motor to make a lot of horsepower they did it bring down the peak torque of NA motors and extend the torque curve.
“That 2500$ prelude” hit the spot man 🥲😂
My first car, a ‘91 Integra, didn’t have VTEC, and I was so jealous.
I’ve only ever owned Hondas, but my luck hasn’t fully cooperated, because my ‘17 Civic Hatchback also doesn’t have VTEC. I went from one too old to have it to one too new to have it.
Maybe someday I’ll get to pick up an S2000 or something!
The intro for this vid goes so hard!
I love my VTEC sound in my 5th gen Preludes' H22. 5.5k RPMs and were off!
