LOVE this video, I kept explaining to my friends why Toyota went with Bmw for the new supra and they just didn’t understand, the mk5 supra is close to perfect, I just can’t stand the bmw complete interior and the bmw chime
It beats the rental car interior the Mk4 Supra and every car Toyota seems to have. If I’m paying $50k-$60k for a car then the interior needs to match the price point. I don’t want a Supra that has the interior looking and feeling like a base model Corolla. If I wanted a Corolla interior, then I would save thousands of dollars and just buy a Corolla instead.
30 year old motor can make 750whp reliably fairly easy and cheap. A 3jz could’ve been a stroked 3.2 2jz with higher boost factory and be 650hp. B58 is a great motor. But bmw isn’t known for reliability.
In my opinion the a90 is not that good of a continuation for the Supra, but before you flame me in the comments read this: In my opinion the car feels kinda rushed i am sure the a90 may be faster but again it's not that big of a difference after 20 years. I build Supra’s for a living and anything that has a JZ swapped into it. The 2JZ’s head does Not flow well. Yes, yes, it has a Iron block and a amazing Crank.. but other than that it’s a heavy lazy motor. If it wasn’t for a turbo the 2JZ would suck. We’ve built N/A non vvti and VVTi and both barely broke 200hp to the wheels on E85.. there’s a lot more impressive engines out there, but the aftermarket support is what adds to the awesomeness of the 2J…
The reason everyone isn't a fan of the MKV is because it takes specialty tools to breakdown and or fix unlike the 2J which was kept simple partly due to Yokohama.
The other big thing that came from the BMW partnership is that BMW liked the Mirai and the hydrogen fuel cell. Toyota is offering their tech to them and BMW is already testing a hydrogen X5 with 374hp. With the state of the market and hybrids or alternative fuel vehicles taking over, Toyota would rather make moves there than make a 1 off Supra and new straight 6 engine. Toyota is pushing Hydrogen Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Combustion Engines and wanting that to be what the Prius was for Hybrids back then. Doing the MKV on their own would also make the car costs a lot more to make profit. The LFA was an exception to boost the Lexus brand image and a lot of the R&D learned from it went into the F cars and LC500 after it. Toyota had a lot more of their hand in the development of the MKV than haters give credit for.
I vote for this! Although, they won't do it, probably for being a rather rare car, specially in North America. It's like saying: So you want a lancia Thema ferrari!

Only the GT-R is it’s own thing. The new Z is just a 370Z with a new engine. Everything else is carried over from a bunch of other cars and it’s essentially a parts bin special. But aside from a potential Z Nismo in the future, the new Z won’t have its resale value as high as the Supra will in a couple of years, and we’ll start seeing Z’s where the 350Z and 370Z are now, high mileage and either sold at car lots or in salvage yards
@@original__gmebvy the z has been sharing the same motor as the G for as long as I can remember in the US. They took that motor, tuned it differently and brought back a classic style with no help from any other brand sir
Its not that they cant. Its that there is no market for one. Toyota builds hybrids and economy cars and trucks. A one off inline 6 would be a huge loss for toyota in one sportscar that wont sell well anyway.
@@beexiong2995 but they are making an i6 with Mazda anyway. And in the current climate it's surely going to be turbocharged. There is no market for a rwd i6 but they are pursuing it with Mazda..... So the way they say they need bmw is all bs. Hope bmw is happy with the Mirai technology they traded for.
Think He's right people will learn to love and appreciate the b58 but the only thing it will never start off cheap. The 2jzgte was a bargain to buy because they put it in so many different cars, but not the b58 it will always not be a bargain. But at least it exist.
I think it would have been better if Toyota took the gt86 platform and made it slightly wider, more aggressive body lines, stronger drive train, different interior(Maybe 90's inspired) and dropped a 3L inline 6 into it. Then the supra would be the better version of the gt86 like it started out being the better version of the Celica.
While putting the 2jz into a MKV Supra is a terrible idea, starting a new engine line (let's just call it a 3JZ) that they could put into all kinds of different models would have been awesome! The short block could be shared across multiple lines (Lexus, trucks, special performance models, etc) with different heads/strokes to help with costs. TT I6 Hybrid RC-F. IS-F, GS-F, LC-F (RC and IS might have packaging issues with an I6). TT I6 Taco, 4Runner, base model Tundra/Sequoia, Supra. Yeah, that is a pipe dream, but it was doable. If Nissan can keep producing the GTR, then Toyota can surely easily afford to make the Supra on their own. And they wouldn't have had to ruin the proportions of the perfect FT1 is they just used a lightweight version of the LC500 chassis. I do not like the BMW partnership, but it is what it is. They did this solely to save money. Toyota knows how to still make sports/GT cars (LFA, LC500, 86), and could have made this on their own, but the financial numbers made more sense to partner with BMW. I just feel like it was bad move for your flagship sports car nameplate to become a rebadged BMW. I do hope the BMW Supra is a financial success so Toyota gets back to making more sports cars on their own, even if they don't make as much financial sense.
What happened to fixing your own car? I drive an 05 so I don't worry abt this shit but it'd be nice if I could still fix my car in the garage in the future

Just for the lulz, the S58b30 (new M3/4) is a Closed Deck Biturbo Engine wich has already proven to handle easily 750 hp just with Bolt ons.
Some were mad it didn't have a "3jz".. a HELL of a lot more ppl were mad that it doesn't have a manual
Mazda is making an inline 6 3.0 turbo and Lexus will be using it in some of its models.
Curious to see what mazda will do with it for their own models
fuck that, tryna see what lexus is
Thank God for nissan doing their own thing. Might only have 2 sports cars left but atleast they do it themselves
@@original__gmebvy but isn't that a nissan 🤔
@@original__gmebvy the z has been sharing the same motor as the G for as long as I can remember in the US. They took that motor, tuned it differently and brought back a classic style with no help from any other brand sir
i saw the 2jz in the celica supra. the celica supra was damaged. but the 2jz wasn't. i thank the gods for that engine
What happened to simple (good looking) oem wheels
What happened to the RB26
The fact that Toyota said they can't make a new i6 and mazda developing a new i6 with toyota paints a different story...
Fingers crossed that Mazda Inline 6 that Toyota is helping them will be a spiritual successor to the 2JZ.
what happened to fwd cars?
Just mad they don’t offer the mk5 with a manual
Think He's right people will learn to love and appreciate the b58 but the only thing it will never start off cheap. The 2jzgte was a bargain to buy because they put it in so many different cars, but not the b58 it will always not be a bargain. But at least it exist.
Huh? The b58 ia in like 10 different bmw models lol
Sti hasn’t been released
In my opinion, the 2jz engine will be used until the last one on the planet brakes.
It got 2layZ…,
Shout out Trinidad and Tobago @4:00
When you going to get 8 lug wheels my excursion needs some new rims
That's what their sister company, Custom Offsets, is for
I remade your 430 in forza horizon 4, it’s a good drifting car 😬😬🔥🔥
That's lit lol
Yes sir💯💯
What happened to fixing your own car? I drive an 05 so I don't worry abt this shit but it'd be nice if I could still fix my car in the garage in the future
Same.
im just so glad, here in the south, aka the land of nascrap racing, to hear other gearheads talk about & make reference to REAL racing! ...verstappen for the win alex!
If that Supra has Toyota reliability then we're all about it! That's where most of questioning is coming from... that and the fact that it's only automatic... whah whah
What happened to subaru forester??????
You mean charmander. Charizard is final evolution. Js.
I had to stop for a sec to see if there was like a new Charizard evolution I wasn't aware of when he said that lol.
I mean technically its not the final there's the Mega evolutions, VMAX, and Giga lol.
@@bloodsupremking those don’t count & you know it ;)
@@brettburgess5048 lol you right 😆
The Supra has always been a coupe with a 6 cylinder, derived from a different model.
They checked the boxes
What happened to manual transmissions? What happened to save the manuals?
