    Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

    It was most interesting and informative and enjoyable to watch.
    I never had to deal with a test strip like that, so it was most interesting to see what you were doing and how you did it.
    Lot of work really but gives you a real good look at how the test strips did and what products and seeds were the best, if I understand you correctly. Oh my.
    You beat the rain 🌧️ so that was good. Matt had a lot of real good information on seeds and fertilizer and soils. Most interesting.
    Have a nice Memorial Day weekend Zach and family.

    Ive seen studies that show from 70-90% of soil applied P being completely tied up within 2-3 weeks. Furthermore, when you apply P in the furrow it creates a disassociation between the plant and soil microbes that are capable of supplying the plant with organic, otherwise unavailable P. The biggest issue with this is when the plant demands increase for P during the reproduction stage (grain fill). The furrow applied P is completely tied up and soil biology is dormant because you took its job away early. If you haven't already, do a soil total nutrient digestion test. It'll blow your mind when you see how much phosphorous and potassium are already present in your soil in organic form. The problem with traditional bray and Melich soil testing is, they only account for in-organic forms of nutrients and completely miss organic forms. I'd also highly recommend sap testing through the growing season. I was blown away at all the micronutrient deficiencies and excessive nitrate levels I had when I started. The biggest eye opener was some of the deficiencies on my sap test showed sufficient on my soil test. After further investigation I found out that certain micro nutrients like manganese, calcium, iron etc... will show adequate levels in a soil test because a soil test doesn't differentiate between oxidized and reduced forms, whereas a sap test does. A soil test will very rarely show iron deficiencies, but the iron is oxidized and plants can't utilize it. Iron will almost always show adequate levels in a tissue test as well for the same reason (they don't differentiate between reduced or oxidized forms either). Sap testing has allowed me to greatly reduce fertilizer inputs while increasing yield and crop health. traditional soil test are a great marketing tool for selling P and K in my opinion.

      Foliar application avoids the issue..When in grain filling stage foliar is a shot strait to plant...Also a great time to add macros/micros...Manganese as example produces oil in oil producing plants...Alot of people are concerned about p and K and enough N but miss that manganese will make a heavier test weight because there is more oil in each bean or kernal....many ways to skin the cat...to me it seems more logical to foliar so none of the organic matter ties up majority of whats applied...your making 2 to 4 sprayer pass's anyways reguaddless...

    • @caseymac2287
      @caseymac2287 Месяц назад +1

      Something to keep in mind to make foliars work. Foliar fertilizers (depending on the nutrients being applied) also need to be chelated and in the correct form. For example, if you have an iron deficiency, and you choose to apply foliar iron, it needs to be in a reduced form and most importantly chelated. If the iron isn’t chelated, it’ll quickly oxidize and the plant won’t be able to utilize it. It’s all about timing, balance, and analysis.
