      As a programmer of 26 years I'm glad I don't have software that runs on equipment like this. So many variables. And when it's needs to work it needs to work now. Not saying I don't feel good software just saying I don't think I could deal with it LOL

    Another farmer on RUclips was answering questions from his subscribers live when he was asked if he was redundant in the planter since the "robot" could do it all. Your issue with the equipment showed just how one sensor can mess up the entire planting process. So his answer was no, the human cannot be replaced since the human was the only "tool" that could fix every issue as they happened. I also point out how remote robots on Mars have to be build in the simplest way possible to not fail and Mars is not the friendly environment that the Earth is by comparison. People-built equipment has a lot of parts and therefore many possible points of failure. I'm an I/T Specialist now for 28 years and I can say Confusious was right, "Shit happens!". With Aloha from Hawaii...

    I give farmers so much credit for their patience with the seemingly unending barrage of problems they encounter. If it's not electronic, it's mechanical, on top of that you have tight windows of weather you try to work in and then you have another malfunction. As much as I'd love to work on a farm again, I think I'd blow more head gaskets than a powerstroke.

    • @LtColDaddy71
      @LtColDaddy71 3 года назад +10

      How about a 7721 pto powered, towed combine, a 444 head, with a 4440? That’s how I started. Fill two wagons, hop on that tractor, go put it up. The drier was leaving it in the field long enough, back to the field, hop in the 4440 and start the process over again. Seed? Hell, I planted bin corn one year and it worked! Open pollinated, did that a few years. My pigs and chickens loved it! 10% protein!

      Even the old style equipment with no computers have gremlins you have to chase down and the bad part is you can't have a mechanic on the phone tapped into your computer trying to fix it and it's expensive to have them out in the field getting dirty to find a buck fifty spacer or bushing you can't see from the tractor seat and looks fine when you get off is shot when pressure is being pushed against it out of the 2700 acres more or less we farm some of the rental properties have some small 7 to 25 acre fields through paths in the pasture with our good equipment even if we widened the gates to get into them we'd spend more time turning around than it's worth so we bring out dad and grandpa's "big equipment" from their days of farming (at his auction dad didn't sell it because he knew I was going to farm his since I farmed his cousin's across the hedge row and the stipulation was as long as he lived on the place he wanted to watch his equipment do the work after he was gone or couldn't live there anymore it's all mine and my kids to do what we want) we use his feedlot to feed cattle in the winter because the pipe panels he put up we never have to worry about fixing fence he used bigger line post than most people use for corner post for his corners and gate's he bought a 48 inch bit for his anger and still had to wallow it around and drive the posts in with the loader I asked him why 1 time when he knew medical retirement was coming within years he asked me if I ever wanted to put new post in I said it wasn't my favorite job but every pasture I rent I have to replace a few a year he said build em like that and fix wire when needed but my grandkids wouldn't have to replace a post he built that feedlot in his late 70s while me and the kids were working so he could brag he still could work like us with no help
