We’re super excited to show you a near-field home theater that we recently installed in a relatively compact bonus room. While we have many home theater showcases, the majority of them cover homes with dedicated theater rooms. The reality is that many people don’t have that kind of extra space available, but still want to create a cinematic experience in their homes. In this showcase, we’re going to show you how you can put a terrific theater in a more compact space, such as a bonus room, living room, or larger bedroom.

Thank you for making this video.
I have a question.
I have the exact same TV at home in the box which will be put in the home theatre room I'm building in the basement. How far off the ground is the bottom of the TV in this room?
@@VicG78 Glad you liked it, 26" is what we remember
@@AudioAdvice Thank you for responding!
Would you recommend I go 30 in off ground and then mount my center channel right under. Maybe 31 in? Seems like 30 to 32 in and sitting about 10 to 11 feet away would give me a nice center of the screen view and the center wouldn't be aimed at my feet.
I have a Polk audio center that has the slant on one side and capable of being put on a center channel speaker stand and be aimed up toward the listener.
Any advice?
@@VicG78 that’s a good plan
What Tv is used?
These guys are actually our neighbors. My wife and I got to check out the room last week. Finished product came out really nice.
Nice to see a small room after seeing all those massive ones.
Thank you!
@@AudioAdvice now my wife wants those seats….
Any idea what the price was?
@@zman-ru3yf $12k
That's a super clean room. Love how complete the room is, despite the smaller size. Incredible efficiency overall!
Glad you like it!
I second others to say thanks so much for showcasing small typical room especially with irregular shape like this one and the list of equipments. Please keep them coming.
Glad you like it!
Wow I'm just as impressed as the dedicated theaters you do even your small hometheaters are over the top in the best way possible I mean
Thanks! We always try our best!
It’s a beauty. Really nice use of space. Simple, minimalist, and just the needed acoustics without going overboard. Very clean.
Thank you very much!
This is a beautiful installation. I really appreciate you showing off a theater in a smaller space.
Glad you like it!
Terrific use of the space. The finished theater looks amazing!
Thank you! It did turn out great!
Thanks Scott .
Great job on the room and great job making the video .
Thank you! We appreciate you watching
Another great one. Good to see you guys showcasing a small room as I’m sure most of your viewers are most likely to have such size rooms. The large theaters are nice and great to look at, but pretty sure the majority of your viewers can’t afford them.
Thank you. We plan to feature more like this in the future. Thanks for watching
Might be a good idea to provide example of odd shaped smaller rooms or in open room concepts found in smaller homes and townhomes.
@@MrAerialsound We definitely want to do more of those. This one is an open concept in a townhome www.audioadvice.com/videos-reviews/diy-home-theater-tour-renter-friendly-affordable/
This is actually a great video showcase because it demonstrates most FROG’s in peoples home and what you can do with a smaller budget. Good Job! 💯💯
Thank you! We appreciate you watching and commenting
Nice small space theater. Look forward to seeing a video featuring a small narrow dedicated room space in the future with a projector and 7.x.4 set up.
Thank you, yes, we hope to have one of those types soon. Thanks for watching
I used to want in wall speakers in my dedicated theater room but there has been a rise in the number of people installing on wall speakers. I'm totally sold for installing on wall speakers, especially after seeing how well they turned out in this room!!
And the color of the wall gives the speaker grills that perfect pop without standing out! Bravo to your team!! 👏👏👏👏
Thank you!
In this video they ran the cables in-wall and cut a tiny hole to connect the on-wall speaker. Since the difficult part is running the speaker cables in-wall, I'm finding it hard to see the point of an on-wall speaker over in-wall. On-wall would be a good compromise if the speaker cable was run on the outside of the wall. I (DIY) installed in-wall and in-ceiling speakers for my 7.4.4 system, however my left/center/right are tower speakers, only because in-wall speakers of similar performance would have been very expensive. I agree with you that this modest system looks great and I'm sure sounds great too.
I love the look of the on wall speakers from Heco. What an awesome theater they have there
Glad you like it!
Really appreciate that you guy use Integra products, specifically the DRX lineup. I have a DRX-2.1 in my small home theater room, and for my application and needs, it is simply amazing. They are very underrated and not a lot of people consider them for high-end applications as they believe they are just re-badged, over-priced Onkyo's, which couldn't be further from the truth. This home theater video is excellent, and the finished product is beautiful.
Thanks for sharing! We appreciate your comments!
Awesome home theater! I like the seats!
We do too! Thanks for watching!
Great room. Nice design for the space. Paint those in-ceiling speaker grills :)
Thanks for watching, glad you liked it!
Ingenious use of space - nice!

Very nice use of the smaller space!

Really good job, very clean looking, makes the room look bigger than it is!!! Thanks for sharing, Hecos are now on my list of possibles for my onwall build, Dali, Kef, Heco

Really great job utilizing a smaller space to create a killer theater! I bet it sounds incredible.

Phenomenal advice on, and knowledge of AV. Love this guy and the way he and his company approach the whole process. Impressive. If you ever decide to re-design your logo Scott, I'm your guy. I'd be honored!
Glad you enjoyed it!
this is a great example of maximizing the space in a small media room. I liked that they didn't try to cram back surrounds or rear atmos speakers in the design.
Thanks Marty! We appreciate you watching
Exactly. Do what the room and seating will support.
Oh my gosh!!!! I absolutely love the work that you guys do, It's the best that I have seen.

Was any HVAC and insulation work required to ready this room for its end use?

Love seeing the transformation for a smaller room on a more attainable budget. The timelapse is also really cool!
Glad you like it!
What an incredible Home theater room I'd like to have something like that
Thank you so much!
So dope
Thank you for watching!
@@AudioAdvice thanks, fo your answer to this question, but not mine. If I also state it is really dope, will that help a bit? :) Just joking. I don't think you do measurements of all the speakers you install, anyway.
I wonder if the upcoming audio calibration videos will include REW?
I have a Yamaha A3080 and ran YPAO and it did a terrible job with calibrating my room! It set the Cross Over for all my speakers at 40Hz(even my smaller surrounds and ceiling speakers), set Sub level so low that there was no audible bass, and only had the correct distance for the front speakers. S I just used a tape measure to set the distances, changed the cross over to 80Hz, used a SPL meter to set the levels to 75db at reference volume, and used the the distance setting to synced my sub to my main speakers, and then made a few level tweaks by ear after that... and now my room sounds better than it ever did.!
You have discovered something we talk about in our calibration guide. www.audioadvice.com/videos-reviews/need-calibrate-home-theater-receiver/ Many home theater receivers just get it all wrong. What you did is exactly what we recommend. It is good to hear you heard the improvements. Thanks for watching!
I wish they could do a video tour of the house. Wondering what paint color on the walls of the steps before entering the theater and the carpet type color. Very nice combo.
We are glad you enjoyed the video and will try and find out those specifics for you
Amazing design in a smaller space. Thanks for sharing this!
Is Cat 6 the prefeered way to deliver HDMI vs a dedicated HDMI cable?
Thanks. It depends on the length of the cable. The transmitter/receiver method usinc CAT6 lets you do far longer runs, but it costs a lot more.
Nice
Thanks!
Another winner...
Thanks!
I can see your respect for your work in your videos. No matter what job a person is engaged in, he/she should try to have maximum information about that job. My only criticism is that you don't talk much about potential problems or bad experiences in your videos. Apart from that, your important installation advices are very useful for people who are not in the USA too. Regards.
Thanks, glad you liked it. In some of them we do go over challenges in the room and how we addressed them. Appreciate you watching
Great video. In my setup I'm also forced to have my couch against the back wall. I am planning on doing in wall for the surround and in ceiling speakers for the Atmos. Small room. Listening area is 12' wide, 15' deep with 8' ceiling. Does the 5.1.2 setup make the most sense since my back is to the wall? I tried to use the room tool, but it won't allow me to place the couch back against the wall. Thanks!
That is what we would suggest yes. We hope you enjoy it
I wish they would also mention the Metric scale for viewers outside theUS. After googling I learned it's 5 by 4 metres.
Looks awesome. Question the surround: Does that back left surround get lost in the space?
Thanks! Not really, when you do the room set up the system takes everything it hears into account and balances it out. Thanks for watching
looks great! Curious, did ya'll do any sort of soundproofing?
Thank you, no, we think we remember spray foam insulation, but its not really near any rooms it would bother
right on thanks! @@AudioAdvice
You said you ran CAT6 for HDMI to the TV, what baluns are you using? HDBaseT or something else?
AV Pro Edge www.avproedge.com/extenderfamily.html
nice to see a realistic theater more people could do
Thanks!
I'm probably going to end up converting a room about this size and my question is about the seating with the right surround right on top of them. How do you balance that? I know with my current setup if you are too close to the right or left surround it's all you hear and it ruins it for me. Does the calibration fix most of those issues?
You just have to adjust the level to get it as pleasing as possible. Most rooms are not perfect and there are always some tradeoffs. If you are working with one of our home theater designers they can help. Thanks for watching
Do you find that going against the recommendation of LCRs on the short wall has an impact to the sound? I have a very small room 10’x16’ was thinking on a similar layout as you have here having the lcrs on the long wall, in my mind having the lcrs away from corners and close side wall reflections along with surrounds further away would be better at these dimensions than having the LCRs one the short wall and surrounds in my example only 10’ apart. With a few subs sure I could get the bass right also in this configuration
It will really depend on what you are trying to achieve. You are right about the reflections. Please reach out to our team at www.audioadvice.com for more advice. Thanks for watching
For 7.2.2 on a Denon x3800h should I have the heights at front left & right or center front & rear of the seat?
You can use our free tool to find best options. www.audioadvice.com/home-theater-design. Thanks for watching
I'm a bit surprised there isn't a pair of subs. And, why not at least pre-wire for the other side in case of adding one in the future?
Does your website allow the use to do a 3D design if the room? That's after the set up & placement design?
It does not but feel free to use our tool. Thanks for watching
What grey paint did you use on the wall and the ceiling?
We think it was SW Grizzle Grey
Curious, why didn't you put the screen straight in front of the door to have multiple rows versus one big row? Couldn't it have fit a nice big projector as well?
We looked at every possibility. Thanks for watching
what was in the small white door space behind the seating area?
A small storage space.
Hey Guys,
I am currently debating between buying a pair of B&W 702 S2, or B&W 805s D3. My use is going to be mainly music and I plan on pairing them with a KEF Kube 12 inch sub. What would you go for?

What is the measurement between the mounting points on the back of the 44f,22, and the 11?
That is not shown in the manual. Is there a specific use case you need this for? We have a pair of the 22's set up in the Raleigh store we could take down and measure if it is critical for you, but they are just designed to hang on the wall and just a visual estimate would be about 2/3 the distance apart of the speakers width. Thanks for watching
Can we accmodate 7.2.2 sound in 15 ×15 room size
Sure, please use our free home theater design tool to lay things out. www.audioadvice.com/home-theater-design
I'm sure that having surround speaker so close to the Atmos one, make it almost imposible to differentciate where the sound is actually coming making your brain to think all sound are coming from an area between both speakers.
This is a great question. Ideally you try to create separation between the surround speakers and atmos speakers based on the angles from the listening position, but not so much that they sound like discrete speakers. A room like this that is smaller and with the seats essentially as far back as they can go create a unique design challenge. We ran these through our acoustic calculations and mapped the best separation possible while still matching the correct locations. The end result is that it actually has a great balance between creating dimension and smoothly moving sound between the speakers. Great point here.
What do you use for the HDMI Balun?
AVPro Edge. They are out of South Dakota and very good. Thanks for watching
Is there a reason you went with on-walls instead of in-walls...?
Price/performance and the look was great in the room. Those HECO speakers sound pretty amazing for what they cost. Better than similar priced in-walls. Thanks for watching

You need Philips HUE for home theater
Hi, great room here. Do you happen to have any kind of measurements for those HECO speakers? Spinorama or The Klippel Analyser System preferred of course. But a simple frequency response measured by REW will also do :)
Trying to choose some of the good on-wall speakers for similar kind of room right now. Thanks.
Dimensions (W x H x D) -
Cabinet: 8.86 x 30.71 x 3.35"
With Front cover and wall mount: 8.86 x 30.71 x 4.02"
Power Handling (RMS/Max) - 80 / 140 watts
Impedance - 4-8Ω
Frequency Response - 45-42,500 Hz
Crossover Frequencies - 2,500 Hz
Recommended Amplifier Output - 20-140 watts
Sensitivity - 90 dB
@@lukespencer2162 So it seems that Audio Advice is removing my comments now. You provide great value, and I cannot understand why are you being so rude with my comments here? I just asked if you have any measurements for those speakers. Not DIMENSIONS, but actual measurements made by REW software with measurement microphone. That's all I was asking for - strange attitude.
P.S. Or maybe the link I posted was just auto removed for some reason :)
We did not remove your comment, you put it another one in under Marisa Guerrero Becerra, not this thread. We do not do measurements like you are asking for. Thanks for watching

Audio Advice. Do you recommend a power conditioner, or are they just snake oil. If so, do they improve the audio and/or video quality?
It really depends on the power in your neighborhood. We have experienced substantial differences in some homes and zero in others. The best bet is to test one to see/hear for yourself. Thanks for watching
I suggest an active battery backup like APC Smart UPS...protects against power surges and brown/blackouts. Key word is Active not passive.

16 feet x 13 feet room: It would be much better to put the screen on the shorter wall, bringing the seats off of the back wall, and giving much better audio. To make sure there's space for 4 seats, don't go for the widest seat option, and maybe get a loveseat in the centre if it suits your needs.
That would have been an option except for two things. The seats would block the entry and there would not be enough room for all the family members. Thanks for watching
@@AudioAdvice Hey, thanks for the reply. My room is 17' x 13', less sound-proofing, acoustic treatment, and a chimney breast. We also have 4 seats wide, with a loveseat in the centre to take up less room. So the seats are 111" wide which leaves 45" spare in a 13' room. Sure it's not loads of space, but it's enough to get past, and means the rear speakers can be properly behind the seats, and avoids the excessive bass pressure when you're seats are too close to the rear wall. And obviously you'd want the seats 5 feet or so away from the door, which wouldn't block the entry.
Good video though and like others, I look forward to more examples of small rooms.
Crossover for the sub should have been set to 120 Hertz
