using clay right out of the bag is not a problem, the particles are stacked , no air bubbles, however it does help to wedge it a bit so that the particles are all in one direction
If you don’t mind could you explain to me (like you would a child) why you should or shouldn’t use clay out of the bag, also what’s the significance of the particles being the same direction?
@@lililive1092 I think it’s perfectly fine to use clay straight out of the bag as long as it’s not too hard, because commercial clay gets mixed by going through a pug mill which removes all of the air from the mixture. This part is essential and helpful because you don’t want any air bubbles in your clay when you’re throwing, since air bubbles can 1) throw your pot off center 2) expand or pop during firing, ruining the pot. I’m not as into the “particle alignment” aspect of things when it comes to wedging, since when you throw a pot on the wheel you are aligning all of the particles in one direction anyways, which does help strengthen the pot a bit, but it’s not super scientific and again I don’t feel like it’s the most important thing. The reason I said in the video don’t come for me for using clay straight out of the bag is because some potters teach that clay must always be wedged, and i understand teaching that when you want the student to learn how to wedge well, but at this point in my pottery practice it’s just personal preference to not wedge fresh clay from the bag because I have done it enough to know that it doesn’t make much of a difference! Hope this was helpful

I have an idea...you could order/design a silicone mold for these so that they can be also closed off. Like those silicone fruit/yoghurt cover ups but more form fitting, so that you have segments that exactly get into the two holes and you can open one part up, to drink. Like those plug thingies for you phone ports, so that they dont get all the fuzzy stuff inside. Idk sorry english is not my mother language 🙈
Could use a silicone can/bowl cover. Or that ever the stretchy plastic is. You would just need to find the right sized one and that would stop any spashes when you aren't still.
I really am looking to get into pottery and just don’t know where to begin!! I adore painting pottery but just don’t know enough about the process like hiring a kiln or glazes or slip casting mugs - thank you for for showing your pottery process online for everyone to see 🙏 I wish I could order from you but not sure if the beautiful pottery would make it to the uk in one piece 😅
@@ello_m8_734I’ve tried to see and I haven’t found any close to me sadly! I wish I could - there was one pottery studio but it was pretty cliquey and didn’t allow any beginners/newbies and hiring out your own space was like £75 for a couple of hours!
Thank you 🩷 and I totally understand, pottery can be hard to get into bc all of the equipment is so expensive. Maybe there is a college near you that offers pottery classes? That is always a good option to go because schools usually have all the equipment! Or other pottery studios or art guilds. If not, there are so many good RUclips videos and you can always start by handbuilding (without using the wheel) and seeing if anyone near you is renting kiln space, there is a website called kiln share that could help out with that!
Super cute but is really practical tho? 😅Cause it’s not really a travel cup cause it’s only half covered so, it will spill. Also you are able to just drink from the uncovered side, making it just a cup that is in no way dishwasher safe and overall just really frustrating to clean? Wouldn’t it just be easier to use a normal cup? it’s super cute and I love it but the more I think about the more confused I get 😂
I use mine while driving / walking all the time, i used to just drive with my normal coffee mug so this is less likely to spill lol. It just depends what you want to use it for. It’s not hard to clean, it’s also dishwasher safe so again it just depends on you and your needs.

@@bustedkeaton it’s still too much stress. That was how I finished my ceramics class but I wasn’t able to keep up. I also had trouble in piano classes but I was able to work with one hand the the sustain pedal.

I want that slab roller to roll cookie dough! I'm so bad at getting an even thickness and often make sugar cookies that are way too thick. The brown of that clay is also an amazing color, especially paired with the glaze you did.
This would be so easy to make a really cool kid for. Like a circle regular lid then the Half circle shape on one side to fill the gap and make it fit seamlessly. Then you could put an extra little foot on the half circle part that kind of hooks and holds the lid flush so it doesn’t go anywhere unless you intentionally pull it out
throw on the wheel, or throw it down to prep it? 😅 I toss it on the board before I wheelthrow it because it softens the clay a bit. My teacher used to call it “waking up the clay”
