Robin-Just started working with Nik collection 5 in Lightroom and was having some issues. This answered so many questions. Even 4 years on...! Thank you!
It's great to hear that you found the video useful even now. You'll also find a lot of tutorials on my website in the Nik Collection section (lenscraft.co.uk/photography-tutorials/nik-collection-tutorials/) with quite a few including RUclips videos. I hope you enjoy using the collection.
Robin I have NIK on my computer for years and recently supported DXO by buying into their investment in the plug ins. Even after having the NIK, Google and now DXO versions thanks now to your video I was able to edit the defaults, add the HDR as well as delete other plugins that still existed in my system that were no longer viable. Thanks so much for your help!
Big thumbs up for this Tutorial. Am encouraged by your creating other NIk tutorials for LR. I haven't migrated over to the Dxo Nik version, as I'm awaiting new features for the aging Nik software. But I'm still keeping up with "How to Use Nik," because it still retains some goodness, after all these years--and has the potential to become great, given Dxo's efforts.
I'm pleased you like this. It is the first in a series of Bitesize Nik Tutorials I'm planning. I've been on the DxO Nik Forum making suggestions for the 2019 version of the software. Let's hope it goes from strength to strength.
Thanks Steve. I'm pleased you like the Intro as well. I gave it a lot of thought after we talked on our last trip but I couldn't come up with anything. Then one day I sat down and everything seemed to drop into place.
No it can't. The Masks in Lightroom aren't like the ones in Photoshop. Lightroom Plugins like Nik apply their changes to the entire image. If you want to apply an effect to a selected area, you need to use the tool in the Nik Collection to achieve that.
Excellent tutorial, Robin, but please can you help me? Somehow I've managed to lose Viveza! When I try to access Viveza from Lightroom I get Dfine and yet I can get it OK via Photoshop. When I go into Lightroom Preferences > External Editing sure enough I see Preset: Viveza 2 with Application: Dfine2.exe. I trouble is I can't work out how to find Viveza2.exe. Please could you help? Many thanks, Roy
Roy, please watch my video on using the Nik Collection stand alone. This explains all the locations of the plugins and standalone executables which is what you need.
Thanks for the very quick reply, Robin. I was very impressed! I watched the Nik Collection Stand Alone video and although it was interesting I couldn't see how it could help me. Maybe I'm just a bit thick when it comes to computers!! Anyway, I've just realised that when I right click and press Edit In in Lightroom I've actually got Viveza2 listed twice (but only one each of the other Nik programmes) and although the first one listed shows Dfine as the Application, the second lists Viveza. Obviously I can now use the second one, but to avoid confusion is there any way that I can remove the first one? I've tried reinstalling Nik but the problem persists. Many thanks, Roy.
Roy Pearson Sorry Roy, I thought you were looking for the location of the exe file so that you could change the dfine executable to be Viveza in the lightroom preferences. You should be able to duplicate the version you don’t want in the preferences but I need access to a computer with the full version of lightroom and I don’t have that for a while yet. Sorry.
Nik will allow you to do so much more than you can achieve in Lightroom. Think of it as complimenting and enhancing the power of Lightroom rather than replacing it. Download the trial version and experiment with a few of the apps. There are plenty of videos on my channel.

Great to hear the video helped you. Configuring Lightroom to use the filters properly isn't for the faint-hearted.

Do you know if Nik can be used with masks in LR?

Very annoying mouse click everytime.
I used to get compalints from some people if there was no mouse click. Now people hate it. I don't use it theswe days.
