Thank you. That's just what I've been trying to build up between my RUclips Channel and my website (lenscraft.co.uk/photography-tutorials/nik-collection-tutorials/)
I've never really got to grips with SilverEfex - until now. Your tutorials explain the plug in very well. The more of your Nik tutorials I watch, the more I'm using Nik, and seeing benefits in my photos. So thanks again, looking forward to more.
Robin first your voice is so soothing and calm. Thanks for this video, its a life saver. Recently went to Grand Canyon and there was a fire near by that rendered the canyons full of Smokey Haze. I played around with photos but was not satisfied and the photos didn't pop. Came across this video and BOOM, what did I do. I love the results. Now I have Light, Shadows and Curves (Canyon), exactly as I had envisioned When I shot the scene. Thanks Again.
Thanks for the nice comments about my voice. I found I couldn’t do the usual fast paced excitement most channels use. It’s just not me. I love that this technique worked so well for you. It’s actually part of a longer workflow but it does work well a lot of the time on its own. I hope you have more successes with it in the future.
Hey Robin, I like your video tutorials on Nik so much that I decided to get your pdf book on Silver Efex also. I'll start reading it in a few minutes. best wishes, Erik
Hi Robin, I just found your video. What an excellent tutorial! I’m going to try your approach. It seems to give very good results as a baseline very easily. Lot’s of greetings, Dennis 🇳🇱
That's great, thank you. It's an easy method and just one of the ways you can get good results with Nik Silver Efex Pro. The Colour Response sliders are also very powerful and another good tool to start with.
Thanks. Although I didn't stress it in the video, I usually start by applying Colour Filters and setting the colour Response sliders. After that, I move to use the Global Adjustment controls as I demonstrate int he video.
Robin - just come across your channel for the first time. What a find! Love your explanations and the non-hype approach. If I may offer some input, I like the click of your mouse but find it very loud. Anyway you can lower the volume of the click?
Pleased you like it. Sorry about the mouse click. The volume was increased along with the adding the graphic to show the click as a result of feedback from a few people. I have the same issue with the cursor and magnifying glass. Whatever I try I always have people asking for something different. I will see if I can find a happy compromise for future videos.
I downloaded the free trial to assess whether I want to drop $150 on it but the full separate brightness, contrast and structure are not there. Do I have to buy the program to get them? It said all features were unlocked.
No, they will be in the version you downloaded. When you first install and use the software the additional sliders are hidden. If you look to the left of the title (Brightness, Contrast etc) you will see a small triangular arrow. If you click this it will expand the area to show the other sliders.
Re-engaging with landscape and these are great tips expertly demonstrated. 👌🏻 Although I would encourage you to turn off the screen recording mouse click tones.
Thanks. I have some viewers who used to ask for the clicks but if you watch my recent videos I don't use it any more. There's nothing I can do about the older videos. Enjoy the landscape.
Great little nugget here, Robin, regarding the “soft contrast” slider. I’m scripting an episode over on my channel about scanning color neg and converting to BW. I’ll include this technique and showcase your Channel and this episode - thanks for your efforts.
No, Silver Efex 2 was a paid version by DxO. It wasn't that different to the free version at the time and the approach works with it as well as the current Silver Efex 6.
Robin, I am a member but I’m having trouble logging in. Verified I was not a robot, but I have not received email so I can reset my password. Also I bought you book on Silver Efex Pro will I be able to get the updated version? Great videos! Keep it up.
Hi Dave, I can see the email being sent to you about an hour ago. As it's not reached you I have reset the account and you should now receive a new email. If you don't, please email me using the Contact form on Lenscraft so I can do a manual reset (lenscraft.co.uk/contact-form/). As for the book, yes my intention is to make it available to everyone who purchased it previously but this does depend on Amazon - you may recall the problems some people had with the Viveza book. Cheers Robin
Not far south from Bamburgh. I've sometimes called in at Amble if I've been heading to Bamburgh or Alnmouth. Nicely painted harbour lighthouse if I remember.
Thanks. I think people either hate or love the mouse clicks. If I include them people complain and if I don't do them I get complaints. Don't think I will ever win 😩
Easy to over due these edits. It’s ok to lose things in the blackness. It adds drama and power. I see a lot of folks pull their shadows into the black but then pull them back up to get details again. A shame really. Check Sir Don Mccullin’s landscapes for example that are shot on film. Incredible power and dark dark shadows.
Bingo, really helped me improve my workflow and understand why I was finding soft contrast so helpful. Had no idea I should go to it first!
Glad it helped! This approach might not work with every image but it does seem to work well with most.
I have watched SO MANY NIK videos, I should have come here first, thank you for this insight.
Glad it was helpful. Thank you very much.
Thank you. I've been using Silver Efex for a few years and never knew those detailed adjustments were there!
Thanks. It’s great to know I helped you. I hope you achieve good results with them.
Another very helpful Bitesize tutorial. Your channel must be one of the leading resources on the Nik Collection on the Web, Robin. Truly invaluable.
Thank you. That's just what I've been trying to build up between my RUclips Channel and my website (lenscraft.co.uk/photography-tutorials/nik-collection-tutorials/)
Just editing runners at a fell race. This video has been SO helpful. STAR MAN! Very grateful.
Thanks. Great to hear it's helped you.
Great series that unlocks some processing gems each and every time. Many thanks Robin
I'm pleased you like it. There's more to come. I'm also planning something similar to cover Affinity Photo.
I've never really got to grips with SilverEfex - until now. Your tutorials explain the plug in very well. The more of your Nik tutorials I watch, the more I'm using Nik, and seeing benefits in my photos. So thanks again, looking forward to more.
Great to hear the videos are helping. There's more to come.
Thanks Nick. This a great, practical and clear approach.
Thanks, it's great to hear you liked it. Silver Efex offers so much choice that it can be difficult deciding where to start.
oh my G...I never saw that we could have options under each controls , thank you!!!
You're welcome. I'm pleased it's helped you.
Robin, thank you so much for this great tutorial. Makes post so much easier. Cheers.
Thanks. Great to hear that you liked it.
Thank for this helpful video. I liked that you explained what is changed and not changed as you move the sliders.
Thanks. I'm pleased you liked it.
Brilliant, thank you for sharing this, Robin.
My pleasure! Thank you.

Thank you and great to hear. I hope you like the next one as well.
What an eye-opener this lesson was for me. Thanks SO much, Robin.
You're welcome. It's great to hear that I've helped you.
Great tips for making Silver Efex Pro easier
Thanks. Great to hear you liked the video.
This tutorial was perfect!! I just started using Nik flex pro in my recent review of B&W conversion and I was quite lost until now. Thank you Robin!
That's great to hear. It may be worth looking at some of my other Silver Efex videos as it's a very flexible package.
Amazing video. The mouse clicks are incredibly annoying but the content is fab. Will try this.
Thanks. It's a very old video and I make sure you don't hear the clicks now.

Thank you. That's much appreciated. It helps me cover the costs of producing the videos and running the website.
I have not upgraded yet, a bit hesitant. I think you gave me a reason to do so now. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. I'm pleased you liked the video. Don't forget, the old version worked just the same, providing it was stable enough on your system that is.
Really well explained.
Thank you. These two controls are often overlooked or not understood.
Really useful video. I learnt a lot. Thanks Robin.
Thanks very much.
in 8 minutes I have learned a lot, thanks!
Great to hear! Thanks

Thanks Robin Really useful

Interesting approach! I suppose it makes sense to start in SE with tools that are pretty unique to SE - stuff that is hard to achieve in LR and PE
Thanks. Although I didn't stress it in the video, I usually start by applying Colour Filters and setting the colour Response sliders. After that, I move to use the Global Adjustment controls as I demonstrate int he video.

Are you working on a .cr2 Raw file?
No, it's a converted RAW, probably a TIFF.

There's more coming.
