I can attest to this, just last month (i'm from Seattle) at a M's game, I saw Jesse Winker warm up and run back to his spot before the the game started. I yelled "let's go Winker!" and he looked right at me and pumped his fist and pointed back at me.. it was amazing, a new Mariner and already just enjoying his presence. Even J-Rod said it... Jesse Winker is the funniest guy he's ever played with... I truly believe he has some sort of spark to this time.. not to mention the spark he started after the fight with the Angel's 😂
I have a pretty fun winker story. I was at the reds game when the Amir Garrett fight happened and was sitting in the front row of left field. Another detail about that game was that puig got traded mid game. I saw the notification and yelled at winker that he got traded and he looked at me and said he didn’t believe me. Eventually the guys next to us got his attention and filled him in on the details about the trade and the video on him reacting went viral. As a reds fan we definitely miss him and I always think of that night when I think of winker
I got to talk to winker at a reds camp once. One of the nicest guys and I got to ask him some questions. One of the most fun experiences I’ve had with a player.
im a mets fan and i love watching winker play. when i wasnt crying about losing a series for the first time this year, i was laughing while watching winker.
I was at a Rays vs Mariners game earlier this year and a fan from left field hopped onto the field and ran across to the rays bullpen, shortly after the guys friends started heckling Winker. He responded by telling them to hop down to so he could beat their ass, and personally I think that’s the best thing I’ve ever heard a player say to a fan
Went to Vegas last year and almost blew through my budget, bet what i had left on the Reds beating Cardinals and this man decided to hit 3 home runs and was able to earn my Vegas budget and some. Jesse Winker’s performance that day, not only made me feel like a baseball gambling hot shot, but made all my questionable and bad decisions seem ok! Forever a fan!
I watched him in 2013 Single A Dayton, he had an amazing season, and made the Midwest League All Star Game (which was in Dayton, and I went too). He was my favorite player i've ever seen in Dayton
when he was in cincinnati, we used to go to a bunch of games and sit in left field and talk to Jesse. He was so kind and started to remember us after a while, still have a couple of balls he gave to us. Such a great dude. Miss him in Cincy, but go M's now.
So cool that you did a video on him. Used to have his dad as my hitting coach back in Orlando at the Warehouse. Got to hit with Jesse a couple times when he was in HS and after he got drafted. Jesse is a great guy and it’s awesome to see the success he has had.
I haven't had a chance to see Winker play yet, but I was sitting behind the new left field wall at Adley Rutschman's debut game and Randy Arozarena was interacting with the crowd the same way. There was a drunk guy yelling at him all game, who went from taunting him to asking him to come to baltimore in free agency after his second home run of the game. He also posed a bit for a guy taking pictures between pitches, and brought extra balls to toss to the kids at least once or twice. It was a ton of fun to watch him.
Those sections in Left at Citi Field (particularly 133 and 134) are honestly a great atmosphere for any game. That’s my favorite place to sit at Mets games and I’ve never gone through a whole game there without at least a couple of fun moments that were confined to just that section. My favorite story was when I took my younger sister to a game against the Brewers in 2018 and this one guy started talking shit to Hernan Perez around the second or third inning. At first I thought the guy was a dick but Perez just kept dishing it right back and over the course of the game it just turned into this really fun banter that got the whole section involved and you could just tell he was having a blast with it. A few times he trotted out to his position with the biggest smile on his face like he was planning what to throw back at us. My sister talks about it all the time and she was really upset when I told her Perez has spent the last few years in the minors, she was really looking forward to seeing him at another game
Also can’t forget section 135 is that group… in my experience… of the three, 134 is the quietest… I was once told to sit the f down when I tried to get a rally chant going in the section… (we were the only section not partaking.) Still love that area of City Field tho. Have many stories from there.
My high school pitching coach knows him somehow. One time he got a call mid practice and it was Jesse asking him if he thought a play that got ruled as an error against him was an error. No clue how he knows him but he also has shaq in his contacts. Interesting dude.
thanks to you, he is now a fun player i wanna root for. and now that he is on a energetic team like the mariners-makes me wanna see him succeed even more!
Mets fan, but I live near Cincinnati & many friends/family are Reds fans. Hell, I like seeing the Reds do well, either way, I really like Wink & think his "rivalry" with our fans is really cool. Shame we won't be seeing him so much going forward.
That’s so wild I just watched that Sopranos episode from your shirt for the first time a couple days ago I wouldn’t have known where that was from otherwise lol
As a Mariners fan, I can say I didn't know much about him before the trade, but he's definitely grown on me. still not a top 5 likeable Mariner, however. We got some awesome personalities.
Jessie Winker makes $7mil/yr…that’s right at $27k/DAY based on a 5 day/week schedule. If Walgreens paid me $27,000 per day …brother you could come yell at me till your lungs run out of breath!!! Oh and if you want to take out taxes and agent fees…it’s still around $17,000/day.
You definitely should update this video after Winker’s trade to the Mets, and then today’s walk off home run. It’s the capstone of his heel turn to hero for Mets fans
I had a similar experience with Josh Lowe, in a game vs the Cubs, we were just screaming at him just hyping him up and people thought that we knew him or something, he gave us a ball and waved at us every time he went out to right field. 😭
Reminds me of my Braves, and how chipper owned the Mets in a loving way. He even named his kid Shea after Mets stadium. And the fans were always calling him by his name “Laaarrryy”
Loved Winker when he was with the Reds. He signed my little brothers ballcap last year, and it was his dirty everyday cap too haha. He seems like a great guy, hated when i heard he got traded. Hes the only reason i try to keep up with the Mariners, God knows the Reds aren’t worth anything this year.
I have a signed ball from him he left in a hotel room in 2015 during Spring Training, my grandma worked at the resort he stayed at and she gave it to me
Once he got traded to my mariners I immediately gravitated towards him. I call him the middle school counselor because he looks and sounds the part. He's really funny though so even though his start with the mariners is pretty slow, he's still great.
As a Mariners fan, and although on my end, it was an awe-striking moment, I fully empathize with you on that feeling on your end. It's rough and we've had far too many just like it. Hopefully, you guys can switch roles in the near future (just... not with the Mariners on the other end of it, please...)
I’m worried things might’ve gone South with the Mariners this year. I would’ve thought he’d be the type of guy to fit the team but I guess things didn’t work out. I wonder where things went wrong.
@@stevendiaz7633 I’m more talking about his relationship with fans and the clubhouse. With all the rumors about him being told to go home by the team and also getting repeatedly boo-ed. People liked him at the start of the year, and Mariners fans don’t usually boo someone just for being bad. Like, what’s different between him and Kelenic? Not that he didn’t deserve it but something was clearly off about the whole situation.

Make some of us think why not just grab him lol

Thanks Cincinnati!!
It’s a fuckin great year to be a mariners fan!! Let’s fucking gooooo

As a German this is an even greater story since "Winker" means a person who waves to other people
I’m excited for this. Miss him on the reds

clicked on this video because once me and my parents were at a Rockies VS Reds game at Coors and Winker was being a baby the entire fricking time
Love him even more after the brawl
1:17 I know what else was tom brennaman’s line
yup. Great for baseball. I feel the same way about Brett Phillips.
Well done my man, well done! This is awesome all around. Cheers to you

I saw him play last week against the angels, I'm supposed to be an angels fan but tbh I loved how the mariners played.

Literally watching this as Winker smokes a Grand Slam against the Angels. Winker love going up

Jesse Winker like so many good players are just so underrated.
