  • Hear the new Peavey 6505 1992 dialed in & in a full mix.
I dial in the clean, crunch & lead channels. On the crunch & lead channels, I dial it in with & without the OD pedal. I then play the Peavey 6505 1992 in a full mix.
So, is the OG 5150 reissue still relevant? Let's find out.

The OG sounds like it’s suppose to. I still have my OG and it’s still cranking out tones since 1994 when I bought it. Gigged and got rained on a few times and damn amp is still kicking major butt!

It's a very throaty and meaty amp. Definitely the most raw and unforgiving sounding of all the 5150s

💡Off topic I think it would’ve been more cool if the top front panel said 1992 instead of 6505 and then just have 6505 original on the bottom right on knob panel IMO

Sounds killer. Thank you for helping us with this great review, you're doing a fantastic job. Sounded freaking good in the mix towards the end of the video, didn't it? The lead channel is amazing, but also let's not underestimate the green channel, that's what Machine Head used for their tone for many years. With a good boost, it cuts like a knife in a mix.

I'm going to be a cork sniffer and say that the green channel does not sound "exactly" like the original 5150's of yore, and sounds similar to how the 6505II sounds. The red channel does sound pretty close to the originals though and this is a great alternative to get instead of hunting down a vintage one. Great demo! \m/

I recently discovered your channel and it's immediately become my go-to when it comes to amp reviews (kinda tied with Kyle Bull's channel). Just a question: I know you're micing your cab, but do you use the Ox Box for any attenuation at all during these demos? I recently had the Fryette Power Station which is supposed to be the best for just pure attenuation and I was pretty disappointed since it totally killed the natural high end of the amp. Thanks!

Thank you for the demo! Interestingly, I didn't care for the tone of the amp much, though I consider myself a 5150 guy. But these days, modded Marshalls (Ceriatones, Splawns and the like), just sound better, meatier and more "brutal" even though they have less raw gain. Or a EVH el34 100w for something in between. Eh, tastes change I guess.
    Great thorough demo as always!

Did you try turning the gain all the way up and backing off of the guitar volume? Sometimes with hot pickups it slams the preamp pretty hard with the guitar volume up. I would also like to hear it with a Strat.

Really love the in depth demos. Keep pumping em out. The only complaint I really have is the over use of the Mesa cab. I get it that it's a great cab. I think things would get a lot more interesting, if other cabs and speakers were introduced. There's so many other great speakers like Greenbacks, T75, or even the EVH speakers. I for one would love to hear these new amps with some Greenbacks.

@@TheDistortionPrinciple honestly, I own both Stealths and my OG block still hits harder, more aggressively, and brutally than my Stealths. It's like a sledge hammer, but yes, and OD is needed in my case. But I use and OD with the Stealths anyway to sculpt the tone, so it doesn't matter. It all depends on how you use the amps.
However, I will say that the 50 Watt Stealth is super convenient because of the smaller size and midi . The 100 watt is out of control huge, and the block is a reasonable size. Neither 100 watt has midi.

The original cork sniffing between the block logo and the next one came down to only one thing. James Brown said nothing changed in the amplifiers, just that the original block logo came originally with Sylvania 6L6GC tubes before Sylvania shut tube production down

Peavey did eventually found out that “about the same time they changed from the block letter to the signature” the company they outsourced the power transformer’s to changed the actual power transformer specifications 🤦🏼‍♂️, they look the same visually, but the internals and specifications were different, and I’t did also coincide with the change of power tubes.

Love the reviews, hate the RUclips tone, it always sounds weird to me especially with the palm mutes, the tone of them sounds as if to much is being choked off, like ya palm is to far away from where the strings leave the trem / much closer to the bridge pup than should be.
I’m sure your not hearing that in the room though. 🤘

The world over, super modern players and studios with unlimited budgets still use Peavey 5150's for their main tones, or profiles / models of 5150's.
With an overdrive, IMHO, the 1 hits harder than the II. The main difference is an input cap or something, but at least with the original 5150 and 5150 II, even with the mod on the 5150 II, it wasn't all the way there.
