@@jamesryder9158I wanted one but after an insider that was friends with Randy told me it's the same as a factory yellow one put in a new box I changed my mind. I have the real deal germanium vintage op amp mint 1978 D+ so I don't need A re boxed polka dot one anyway.
As a longtime player and Rhoads fan I place the blame squarely on Dunlop and no one else. They created this situation and it's utter bullshit. This pedal could've been a huge seller for them, but decide to screw the real fans and allow scalpers to profit once again. I'll be ditching the couple MXR pedals I have. Too many other great companies out there I can support to bother with this shit.
It's the employees at the stores that do this shit. This is exactly why I stopped collecting HotWheels because the employees take everything and sell it on ebay.
I quit collecting Hot Wheels too because I have too many and they are everywhere in my house driving me nuts lol. I have a couple of places that will call me when new cases come out and I can cheat and get them first but I am over it, it is an addiction I litterally still have to avoid the hot wheels display in stores
I only keep 9 HotWheels on the wall. If I get another, something has to go. otoh, I have approximately thirty amps, and recently counted exactly twenty 4X12s, which could be mistaken for a collection if you didn't know any better.
And the gutless retail association or unions won't take them to court for this crime. But I've seen thousands of businesses fail and die so, lots pay the price already.
Do you REALLY associate with exaggerated style of cars. If so, hotwheels is the brand for you. Most people DON'T associate with exaggeration in car styling. Hotwheels IS unsuitable for MOST people. I'm living the simple hotwheels dream. I DON'T live the complex hotwheels dream... There ARE levels of buying and using. I choose to NOT GO OVERBOARD with buying, using, displaying, boasting etc...
I guarantee somewhere in my stomp is a drive that would be indistinguishable in a mix from this. I thought we learned our lesson after the Bad Monkey fiasco. How's this for irony while people are selling his pedal for who knows what at the height of his success Ozzy was paying him $300 a week lol
This is one of many reasons I’m glad I got a Helix. There ain’t a pedal out there that the Helix can’t account for. Helix users are immune to shit like this.
@@UseTheSupeRsonic I see you are also a man of culture. For me, the M13 does it. Nothing wrong with the Legacy effects, as I'm sure you're aware. The "poor man's Bob Bradshaw" system has become essential to me. For me, the M13 is an embarrassment of riches as it is, and the "pedalboard" setup just does it for me. Live, I could see using Scenes (presets), but I love just being able to dial up the tone in my head without thinking of Joyo or Behringer or Amazon at all. I mean, cough, Line 6 stuff sucks! Don't buy it, it isn't like their effects are designed by Jorge Tripps and have always ruled.
Yeah 1299 for an MXR pedal is insanity. The only thing worse than the seller asking that price is the person who actually paid it. That's the thing that's most mind boggling to me, that people are willingly paying those prices.
I bought a Distortion + back in 1980. I still own it. Probably same vintage as the one RR played. You can buy a new standard D+ or a used one and they won't sound any different then this sig model.
I still have my 82, though it hasn't worked for 30 odd years. Picked up a re-release a few years ago to compare circuits and fix the old one and, lo and behold, it sounds the same. No polka dots though, so there's that
The Distortion Plus that MXR has been selling since Dunlop took over does not sound the same. Trust me....I have the Modern version, a Vintage Version and the RR model. All three sound different from one another. If I'm gonna be honest...the current Distortion Plus literally sounds like a cheap imitation of the other two I mentioned. The modern version does not include the same components.
Exactly right. I had one back in the early 80s and while it was ok, Boss had better pedals. If people want to sound like Randy then get a Kempler. Otherwise, your out of luck because Randy's real sound came out of his hands but also out of his speakers. He replaced his marshall speakers with Altec speakers which they don't make anymore. This distortion+ won't do it.
The schematic IS actually different in the RR version compared to the normal yellow one. Does this mean better or worse?? I’m not sure but they ARE different
Wow!!! Motor City is badass!! I think I'm going to start ordering merchandise from Motor City and start supporting a business that actually cares about their customers who are true fans of music!! Thank you Motor City!!!! \m/
All the mxr distortion + models are the same with only a few value changes to the capacitors and thats it. I can make the circuit board in a few hours. I made the zak wylde model a few yrs ago. Its a simple op amp circuit with about $1 worth of components. The pedal housing costs more than the circuit.
I waited months and months for this pedal. I'm such a huge Randy fan, my daughter's middle name is Rhoads. I got busy with work and life and took my eye off this for a couple of weeks and missed the release date by one day. They were all sold out, and people are now selling them for 4 times the price on Ebay.
Same thing here. I blinked my eye and they were 650 and up. 169 was reasonable. But much as I love Randy Rhoads. That is a rip off. Get a late 1970s mxr dist plus pedal and that what Randy used in 78-82
Same here, I was planning on using it as a boost for my leads or an overdrive for a distortion. Then I found out it was limited edition, and then they sold out. Waited 2 years almost smh
You are 100% correct on this video. I was 1st in line with Sweetwater for this exact pedal for the past year and a half at least. Couldnt wait to get it but would NEVER pay what people are paying ! I got a low number out of 3200 and i was very thankful and will not be selling it ! Will be installed on my pedal board and used ! Just how Randy would have wanted it....use it ! About time Randy got his own signature pedal....long over due !
Dude, I agree with you 💯%! I've been excitedly waiting for 2 years and these dang pedals disappeared almost immediately, but are all over ebay for insane amounts of money. I had one on order at two different music stores, but all gone! Grrrr! 🙄
I used to own a regular MXR distortion + and it became my least favorite pedal after I used it for about a year!!! I ended up giving the pedal away to a co worker buddy who was just starting out on playing the electric guitar as a Christmas gift!!! I gave him the distortion + and electro harmonix clone pedal for Christmas!!! He really ejoyed them pedals with his dinky little Peavey amp and Epiphone SG !!! LOL 😊😊😊
I’m a guitar player of over 15 years and I’m 56! I’m a die hard Randy Rhoads fan and I bought two! Now about your statements about buying these and people jacking up the prices! What do you think all these guitar stores do they sell us guitar and merchandise that they sell with a mark up at least 35 to maybe 50 percent over retail prices! And the people who are complaining it’s not our fault you all didn’t pre ordered one!
No pedal in the world will make you sound like Randy Rhoads. His sound came from his soul, fingers, style, and immense talent. There will never be another.
I agree with you totally. Not to mention other than the polka dots, there is nothing special about what the pedal does. Huge RR fan but this is ridiculous.
Somone did buy one for $1,299.99! Problem is though you need his Marshall 1959 amps and the Marshall 412's loaded with Altec speakers, good luck with the speaker one
the problem is it is a limited edition with a stated number. A lot of manufacturers say something is limited edition but they do not commit to a number so they can capriciously decide when they limit it, which devalues the value. Jim Dunlop I think limited to 3200.
As a big randy rhoads fan this was a must have. I was fortunate enough to get one off sweetwater. I was surprised to see the resale value of it on reverb a few days after
Stupid is stupid does. I got all the crap he used. 1970’s Distortion +. Zeus Preamps. Marshall JCM800. Gibson L.P. C. Big Woop. It don’t make you sound like RR. Love your down to earth attitude and philosophy.
@@b1gnutt well ig but what also isn’t mentioned is the Altec speakers like that is the least mentioned variable but a big variable still and getting looked over
Big difference between a jcm800 and a super lead. And Randy never used a jcm800. Master vol vs non master volume. And Randy's super leads were cascade gain stage modded and he used altec speakers for a brighter more articulate tone.
Another person has already said this, but I will reiterate. Randy did not play a jcm 800, he used a 59 super lead. They even made replicas of it, look it up
100000% agree. I've been wanting this pedal for ages but i found out that MXR put it on sale a day late. MXR really dropped the ball. They could have handled this much better.
Wow that's crazy! I just got me a new pedal TC E;ectronic the prophet digital delay from sweet water i like this its easy to use and for the money it didn't break the bank! And the best part it sounds good.
Randy was an amazing musician. The Ozzy albums he played on sound amazing as a whole. That being said, I believe that blistered hog fat frying sounds better than RR's isolated tone. So anyone paying 799 for a pedal to "replicate" that tone is no smarter than a wet fence post on tuesday morning.
This is EXACTLY why I got into self repair and pirate chip electronics building, repairing and experimenting.. basically building my own shit .back in the 70s we called it catfish brewing, then in the 80s ,we called it "Black box" craftery..i actually learned more from my Highschool electronics teacher than that fraternity type DeVry schooltronics.. now days, you just reuse circuit boards and put things in series or curcuit and Dr Franky your stuff.. saves you mega bucks and you learn something of value while you do it..find a good friend or relatives who are knowledgeable with small circuit board electronics and like a good challenge in electronic gadgetry, explain about what sounds you're trying to get out of the project for your electric guitar...good luck and happy findings..
Spot on. Missed out and thats that. Equal if not better stomps out there. A simple RAT and a good tube amp and that's pretty much it. Not gonna sell a guitar just to afford a limited edition. 🤘😔🎸
I started playing guitar in the late 60's . I used to play " big muffs , older distortion pedals, 70 ' s hit and we had all the mxr stuff. My friend had the " script" mxr distortion! It was great , old chips , heavy duty and built to last, can't remember the price but it was affordable. When I met randy Rhoades in the 80 's he said he used the same pedal. All this signature stuff is bs. Just companies and people trying to make money . Peace .
First I love gear, I have had tons of guitars, amps, pedals, worked for a vintage dealer for a while and was fortunate to play all the premium vintage stuff. That being said there is not one piece of gear ever created that is worth over paying for. If you want to sound more like your favorite artist, study the player not the gear. Buying gear is fun but it’s not a short cut to putting in the time practicing. Rhoads tone is bright, middy Marshall. Get some gear together that can do that and the rest is up to you. You will get a lot farther studying Rhoads technique than his gear. Now if you want this pedal, sweet, I get it. But you can afford to wait. And in the mean time practice Randy Rhoads the player
Exactly unfortunately musicians are really dumb at falling for media marketing garbage. Let's face it. Randy's guitar tone was terrible. So many people buy so much crap and overpay for it only to be disappointed and learn that they're just not that good of a guitar player. Don't realize that to get that sound you're looking for you. You have to have thousands of dollars worth of studio crap and studio magic to make it sound how it sounds.
Well... that's just like, your opinion... I got some stuff that was embarrassingly expensive, but the point was not to get a bargain, but to exchange mere money for something that was more important. I think that I gave up thinking of copying anybody's sound about 1979, but that is another megilla. (My Diaz does not make me sound a bit like Bob Dylan, but it might motivate me to learn at least ONE of his tunes. I reckon that I can adapt one to the Doom & Western tone that is my sound...)
I have three MXR distortion + pedals, one normal modern made unit. An original ‘78 block logo with Wampler mods that make it so it doesn’t thin out as you turn the gain up. And a reissue script logo, no power jack or led. I think I am all set. Oh yeah, also have a Chinese made pedal that toggles between Ross distortion, DOD 250 preamp, and distortion +. Not to mention like 4-5 original Ross distortion pedals. I think I am good, pretty sure this Randy Rhoads pedal doesn’t have anything I already don’t have.
The thing is these pedals don't sound like Randy Rhoads. You have to use them through a cranked Marshall or something similar. But it has to be cranked up until it feeds back (squeals) when you are not playing anything then you will get the Randy sound.
I was really hoping to hear the pedal... good points made here, though. I love the channel! I got one for myself, but no plans on selling it... though planning to share the pedal with some other friends who are Randy fans, too. Someone asked if it sounds any different than any other old MXR Distortion +... I'll be demoing it tomorrow night on my live show and we'll find out, I guess! . 🎸🤘😎🔥
So... I've compared the Rhoads MXR to a modern Non-Script MXR DIST+ (104D)... so not exactly a 1-1 comparison to a vintage MXR Dist + that he owned, but let's say a fair comparison. I have another friend (Johnny Beane) who got one too and agrees with me... there's definitely a difference but they are very similar. So... how are they different? Well... the Randy Pedal I have is slightly lower in output when dimed compared to the standard MXR DIST + (Johnny said his is not so that's worth noting) ... and the Rhoads version is less harsh in the high frequencies at the same level and similar sounding settings. Is also sounds more full and more open, with more clarity... ie... when playing a chord, you can hear the note definition more clearly. Obviously, you can get really close to Randy's tone with the standard MXR DIST+ and for the original price of $169 for the Rhoads one, which is what I paid at Sweetwater (my rep is the best)... it's totally worth that custom finish and all the "box candy" of a Special Edition pedal. Is it worth the crazy prices others are "offering" them for on Reverb or eBay... well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right? For collectors, which is why they made this first run of 3200 Special Editions, some will be willing to pay whatever it takes to get one. Personally... I'd never sell mine... though I promised a friend who is a huge fan of Randy's, that I'd let him borrow mine until he gets his own version... though it may not be a Special Edition. Maybe when that time comes, we can compare the two... But it's all a bunch of Cork Sniffing at that point, right? Even with this pedal, you still have to have Rhoads' rig, his fingers and brain... to sound just like him... but does this pedal inspire? HELL YES IT DOES!!! And I think that's the beauty of this thing... like Randy Rhoads did when he was alive and rockin' stadiums with Ozzy (I saw them for the Diary tour)... it does indeed, INSPIRE! 😎🤘🎸🎵🎶♥️RR
Kathy Rhoads posted about the release date in early August. When the date came, I totally forgot about it until late in the evening, by then it was too late, the pedal was sold out everywhere. I wasn't about to spend double, triple, quadruple... for it. Kathy posted that they're trying to get Dunlop/MXR to release it (not keep it limited) so everyone that wants one, can get one.
Motor City guitar is the best music store I've been to in My Life and Marty is a awesome dude for those that are wondering motor City guitar is in Waterford Michigan
I ordered one as a special order on August 21. Not even sure if my order went anywhere and I bet they will come back to me and say we don't have any available and were not able to put your order through. It's sad because I was a huge fan like everyone here and wanted one of these just as a collection piece but also to use in my home studio. Let's hope they see enough sales to do more runs. If they know it can sell, they will probably do more of them.
The pedal I got was bought from Motor City Guitars! The guy sent me the receipt! He said that he was able to buy a few pedals and sell them for a few dollars more!. So your store sold this guy several of these pedals! I got it for $ 400, which to me isn't bad for a limited-edition pedal! I had this pedal on order for several months, and they had been given a few pedals and that was it! I called Dunlop and they said it was a limited run and they had no plans on making any more! So yes .this is a dick move, and I would never have paid 1200, or even 600, but this is just like ticket scalpers, and they have never gone away! Randy was my guitar teacher for 2 years and also my neighbor, so I did want to see if they did a good job, it's sounds good but it doesn't sound anything like Randy's pedal! Maybe after it was modded when it was put in his custom pedalboard! Anyway, your little store did a dick move and I agree with you, but, to me, 400 was not that much! And not buying them to make a point is not a good move if you really want one. But buying one for ridiculous prices like anything over 600 I wouldn't do, but some people will! It is no different than a ticket scalper! There is always someone out there to take advantage of an idiot move by Dunlop/MXR or anyone that makes people have to do these stupid things!
This kind of thing is true for pretty much anything in the economy now, not just for limited edition guitar pedals. Everything you talked about the consumers controlling the market and people artificially raising the price on things through hoarding makes me think of so many other things…. Reminds me a lot of the housing market right now….
I was a member of the action figure community and i'm glad I escaped that world because when you talk about those scalpers you see some weird shit going on lol.
Motor City Guitar in Waterford? If so that's crazy. Yesterday I went on a road trip to check that place out. And was there all day. Amazing place! Most the staff awesome. Found a 4-12 stereo Ibanez speaker cab. Had to have it.
Here’s an idea: DON’T BUY IT! This pedal has been around for 50 years. And this version has very little to do with a guitarist who’s been dead for 45 years. Do you really need a polka dot version so bad you’re willing to drop a grand on it? There are a million better sounding options.
Hey, Dude... You're saying "Don't buy it." With only 3,200 units on the entire planet, damned few can or will be able to 'buy it.' I've A/B/C'd my MXR Series 2000 D+ (from 1983), my Dunlop-era D+, and the RR104. The RR104 has more gain than either previous iteration, and there's a bit of compression ala the JCM-800. And it looks more cool, too. I'm guessing that you're just upset because this item sold out before you could order one. I bought two; one for play, and one for pay. (I ran my comparisons through an EVH Iconic Series 5150 15w with an added 1×12 using a Gibson Les Paul Deluxe. This pedal can scream if you're using the right rig, which, of course, I'm using.
Controversial opinion. If some one is willing to buy the pedal for $1299, then that is the value of the pedal for that person. If they can afford it, they don't think they got ripped off. "Worth" is subjective. Most of the rancour that I have seen stems from the limited run, i.e. people are angry they didn't get one, despite the release date being announced well in advance. Like, if you knew it was on 8/20 and had the Sweetwater app, you could have got one. How do I know? I have one. Bought off Sweetwater at about 8:00AM on release day. Wasn't hard.
Or 2 max if ur getting ur friend one as I was, coz he a computer illiterate . But I would've give it to him cost price none of this playing God with the shit! Fucking wrong
Was lucky enough to grab one before they sold out.. I could definitely use the $ but I’ll probably hang on to it because it’s special to me and I would hate to let it go.
A star like Randy Rhoads and they only make 3,600 pedals. There should have more than 3,600 cause there are more than 3,600 fans. Warhead Amps(Dimebag) are coming out soon and there is only gonna be 333 amps available and they are priced at $550 and they will be gone in no time. Resellers are one the lowest form of humans.
I bet they comr out with a black version of the warhead that's not limited. Colored versions the limited ones. The evh stealth 100 "limited edition" keeps being made. Giessing they only make a certain amount per year. Idk how else they got away with calling it limited.
I’m a Malmsteen guy. I have all of his signature gear, as a fan and a way to get the tone. I know MXR are about to release a new Malmsteen Overdrive… I hope they don’t try some crazy pricing stuff on these simple 250 circuits.
I picked one of these up and I gully intend on keeping, and playing on it. I can't stand people who bought them just to sell them to make a buck. Ruins it for everyone else
Ordered one from zzounds they canceled my order next day. thanks for that and taking the first payment without any question. I wasn't aware they limited it after already missing the namm show with it. very disappointed in the industry doing these limited pedals like there a hidden treasure. and why bother trying to chase one down like its turbo man and release it close to Christmas was even bigger mistake. o and reverb allowing that listing wow pretty low and everybody saw that.
@@AuntAlnico4 thanks for commenting. Yeah that's really unfortunate. I really wish this kind of stuff wouldn't happen. That's why I made this video, to raise awareness to this so people don't get suckered into doing business with these people in the future
I was very lucky and got my Randy Rhoads pedal before they sold out. Mine is still in the package. Reverb is selling them on average for $650. Damn scalpers!
There's a similar situation in my city with a independent guitar seller who is scalping the hell out of those firefly guitars! We have announced the hell out of it and it's a moot point, when he's shameless and is known to do scalping but someone somewhere isn't going to care and buy it at 3x the price and hope they bought into a investment for a product that's made and priced evenly for everyone to enjoy.
I got one… Didn’t even know the release date but was lucky enough to see something about it the morning they were released. Call Sweetwater… All gone. Called AMS… No problem. $179 plus tax and it was at my house in two days. I have been a huge Randy Rhoads fan for over 40 years and I feel kind of bad that I bought the pedal because I don’t think I’ll ever even open it. his playing was absolutely groundbreaking and technically phenomenal, but his tone really wasn’t good… Diary got better and his live tone was pretty good, but it was sorely lacking in a lot of aspects. It’s just gonna sort of be like a voodoo trinket or something sitting there and urging me to play better. But whatever… People are gonna do whatever they’re gonna do. And you can’t be mad about that.
From what I've read about this pedal, Randy's original pedal wasn't modded in any way. It's a stock pedal 😂 But this signature one was "tweaked" by Phil Demmel (because he's a huge Randy fan). 🤣 Soo it's basically what Phil thinks it should sound like 🤪
Anything Jack White sells usually gets bought up and scalped. His pedals on his record store site are usually bought up quickly and the scalping on Ebay starts the same day of the release most times. Anything that’s popular is always gonna be that way. Just the way it is man. Its sucks, but thats the way this world works.
Wow! I feel I have to way in because I land somewhere between. I bought one for around $160 from ams (still waiting btw) the day it dropped. I bought it partially out of curiosity to a/b it with the current standard issue. I am a fan, 15 year old me probably would have put it in a shrine but I’m honestly not sure if I’ll keep it or pass it along to someone who wants it more. I probably won’t try to push it into the 4 digits but Dunlop/mxr created the hype inflation by making it limited edition. This sorta’ thing happens in other markets like sneakers all the time. And it’s really for the collectors. If one just wants to sound like Randy there are plenty of affordable ways to do that. If you wanna pay homage and have an awesome piece in your collection that’s cool too! Of course people will try to capitalize on capitalist venture. It’s a free market and part of what we love about America. Don’t get made at an entrepreneur for investing, just don’t pay more than what you think is fair.
In another hobby/interest I'm in, there is a shop that gets a lot of limited production (not limited to number, but rather by what wasn't used to fill contracts) that has strict rules on those things: One or two per household, per year. Ordering more, using another account, or any other way they catch people in violation, all of the orders are canceled and you're barred from using their site any longer. I don't know how effective they are all around, but it's one of the only places where when I get the 'back in stock' email, there's a good chance there are still some left by the time I get to the site. It doesn't stop scalpers from raiding other sites' inventories, but it makes for more loyal customers to this one.
I kinda agree with what you’re saying…however, I have no problem with the retailer selling, I have no problem with the “scalper” reselling at insane prices…my problem lies with the a-hole who pays the outrageous scalper prices…like they say, “if there wasn’t a market”…vote with your dollar👍
I was lucky enough to get one of these for$169. I'm a huge RR fan and couldn't wait to demo it but now that it's going for $700 I don't want to open it. I kinda want to sell it but it's bullshit that mxr won't make more and I don't want to be that guy.
I hope somebody do the service for Randy's polka dot paintjob .. So we can send them our regular Distortion + .. When polka dot pedals flood.. That ridiculous price is going down.. Because consumers don't ever care anymore ..
The people at fault are the manufacturers. People have been buying & selling limited edition items since the beginning of money. They could easily make more but they don’t. From 59 les Paul’s to the Randy pedal. If there’s limited supply & huge demand it’ll happen. I sold my pedal for $625 😜. Wish I bought more.
I find this description from MXR vague and unconvincing. "The engineers painstakingly spec'd Randy’s vintage Distortion+". There is no information that leads me to believe this isn't a regular D+ with a fancy paint job.
I have....will have tomorrow FIVE Distortion+'s!! Two are vintage (1978 and 1980) and sound 100% correct, stock. The other two are these RR104's just release coming in! The fifth is a modern clone. After I get the new one in (target tomorrow at the latest), I will do a an A-B / A-B-C and demo the pedal and give my feedback. There have been gut shots released, but only of the back with the cover removed and 100% stock, but with high tolerance values. What we/one cannot tell is if modified, because MXR could have hidden them on the other side of the PCB and with SMD components or connected to the nodes of the already existing through-hole components as there is no additional node/holes! This pedal is basically an exact duplicate of Randy's, but the open question and that still exists is....was it Stock, or Modified?? We will know soon!
I've missed out on several limited editions of pedals, comics, clothes, etc. Yes, it sucks. Yes, it sucks to see the prices that they can go for after the fact. But they are limited releases. No one gives Dunlop/MXR credit for not charging twice as much as they did for these? They'd still have sold out quickly and there'd still be people asking/getting those crazy prices for them. Dunlop didn't go that route, though. I can't get/have everything that I want, limited edition or not. I get lucky sometimes and get something, other times not. My life continues just fine. I bought the Limited Edition Marshall Rhoads head when it came out. I still have the box and everything that it shipped with. It cost me around $2,000 back then (ballpark). I see used ones asking for over $6,000, without the box or the other stuff. Is that crazy? Perhaps, but if it's a great amp to you, worthy of that price tag, go for it. I saw a recent interview with a famous guitarist (Keith Urban) that was talking to another famous guitarist (John Mayer). John offered Keith an amp, with a big price tag on it. Keith says "I'd never spend that much om an amp". John says "But you'd spend 10 times that on a guitar, wouldn't you?". If it's worth it to the buyer, then its worth it to them. That's all that matters. If we could all afford a Ferrari, then nobody would want one...
Well i wanted one too. I wanted to hear some demo before... I really didnt remember that it was a limited edition. COuldnt buy the amp, couldnt buy the pedal!!
But it all starts with manufacturer,. by releasing 3200 units. There is way more Randy Rhoads fans who would love to have a pedal like this one. I have VOX combo that simulates Marshall better than Marshall itself, so dist+ is not a problem, but as a Randys fan I wish I have one, but it's too late allready...
This is always a customers' fault. You buy into the hype of magical pedals, magical components and the "they don't make it like they used to" and basically feed the existence of the people who will take advantage of you. "Rarity" is just a word. EVERYTHING is replicable today. If you want a Klon and they cost +++£ instead of buying just a clone of a Kwon (which obviously SOUNDS THE SAME) they you jack up the prices. If you buy an original 59' Les Paul for +++£ and you think its magical...well you created that price yourself. There are many guitars same or better than a 59' for a reasonable price. I would never buy something that is not within a reasonable price....I agree with every word you said here.
I think I'll just buy a yellow one, strip it down, repaint it black with dots and let my imagination run wild!!... RIP Mr.Rhoads it hurts to think about where you would have taken us next.
Value judgment. I don't use that amp, but I have spent ten times that on some amps. Would sell one for double the price, but not the other. It is only money. btw the Doctors actually concur that I am not crazy, just retarded.
I don't care who buys all the pedals and resells them. If they charge $1,000,000 for a Pokémon card and someone buys it that is between them. Find another pedal.. There are a thousand affordable options available right now.
@@sheldonwright8770I don't think that is the case. I'm a long time fan and I've never heard that. Diary was rushed. Mostly the solos. But not the tone.
He was kinda still in relatively prehistoric times for advanced guitar tech. Never even hear about Altec Lansing these days either.... possibly for reasons 😂
All the people saying "Just but a regular dist+" are missing the point entirely. It was a cool design and fans aren't wanting it for the tone, they want it as a collectible.
Buy a distortion + and paint it if you want one that bad
you can just buy an mxr distortion, same one randy used, and its only 100 bucks at motor city

You're better off building your brand of entertainment, over at your place of contribution.

Yeah 1299 for an MXR pedal is insanity. The only thing worse than the seller asking that price is the person who actually paid it. That's the thing that's most mind boggling to me, that people are willingly paying those prices.
You could paint mullets on them and sell them as "boutique".
Look up the asking prices for EVH 35th Anniversary pedals.
$1300 US for the flanger.
Best intro to a rant video ever!!! 😂 Love your channel. All the best.
No polka dots though, so there's that
1200 dollars worth of polka dots, what's that per dot?
Yeah, I missed it too. Just got busy and forgot about it. Realistically though, it's not that important and I'll do without.
Just buy a normal one and paint polka-dots on it. Problem solved.

Ya, imagine that. I unwrapped mine, put it on my board, plugged it in and played it. We're crazy, I know!

Dude, I agree with you 💯%! I've been excitedly waiting for 2 years and these dang pedals disappeared almost immediately, but are all over ebay for insane amounts of money. I had one on order at two different music stores, but all gone! Grrrr! 🙄
Randy's pedal didn't have polka dots, and the Distortion+ is just a DOD 250 with an extremely slight variation in circuitry.
LOL 😊😊😊
Humble beginnings bro…. Gotta start somewhere
I’m a guitar player of over 15 years and I’m 56! I’m a die hard Randy Rhoads fan and I bought two! Now about your statements about buying these and people jacking up the prices! And the people who are complaining it’s not our fault you all didn’t pre ordered one!
No pedal in the world will make you sound like Randy Rhoads. His sound came from his soul, fingers, style, and immense talent. There will never be another.
Let's be honest, his tone kind of sucked but he played so good it never mattered.
@@robertkorn his live tone was incredible, studio, not so much.

Soon as i heard Marty i was like wait what the hell, glad to see Waterford area people besides myself here on the site
Peace .
That kind remember me the fortin 33 pedal crazy price when it was limited.
I'll be demoing it tomorrow night on my live show and we'll find out, I guess! . 🎸🤘😎🔥
Thanks for commenting. I'm glad you like the channel. Let me know what you think of it after you demo it.
@TONEWARSgearshow Will do!
😎🤘🎸🎵🎶♥️RR

You're saying "Don't buy it."
With only 3,200 units on the entire planet, damned few can or will be able to 'buy it.'
I've A/B/C'd my MXR Series 2000 D+ (from 1983), my Dunlop-era D+, and the RR104.

"Worth" is subjective. Most of the rancour that I have seen stems from the limited run, i.e. people are angry they didn't get one, despite the release date being announced well in advance. Like, if you knew it was on 8/20 and had the Sweetwater app, you could have got one.

Couldn't agree more with you

Distortion + pedals are on sale for $75-80 on Reverb.

Waiting for comparison video stock MXR disto vs randy special edition
😢 that sucks, I've been a Randy fan forever, but I'm not loaded with cash, hearing pricks flipping them straight away....breaks my heart
It's the limited edition business model that starts all this kinda stuff man
This is always a customers' fault.
Back in 2020 I was offered $1800 for a mint Peavey 5150 script i bought for $649 back in the day. People are crazy.
I was shocked and a little saddened to find that these pedals RETAIL for $400 here in Australia
I know it’s subjective but many including myself don’t even think Randy Rhoads’ tone was all that great.
agreed , monster player of course!!
Every note was magic but his tone mmm yeah i agree.. especially on dairy i dont think even RR liked the tone on that Lp..
It’s not about it being great , it was about it being unique and fitting to whole band and in the mix even the aesthetic… it’s THE Randy tone
Yeah I wanted one and can’t find it. Saw one for $1600!
I didn’t get one. Pissed me off. Randy was and still is my main influence. It’s the same way with bourbon.
RR ‘s tone was in his hands.
All the people saying "Just but a regular dist+" are missing the point entirely. It was a cool design and fans aren't wanting it for the tone, they want it as a collectible.
