He has degrees.. even a master's... and yet he is an "assistant" at his age. This sadly hits home. Nomatter how hard we work or how much we learn we have no chance to get those leadership roles.. we are stuck as subordinates to other professionals. I am 30 and I've been there done that. may god watch over us
As an Aspie myself, I'm really glad to see that I'm not the only one who HATES it when people ask "How Are You?" as a "Hello". I never comfortably feel like I know how to answer because it's a meaningless rhetorical question used as an imprecise greeting. I usually just mumble "good good" and don't especially care if they hear because nobody actually pays attention to the answer. Some aspects of neuro-typicals are downright inferior and pointless; so much pointless rhetorical filler.
Listen to the T-shirt people. I have AS and what this man says and his T-shirt are so true. The Blonde woman in grey is talking to him like he's a child almost - that happens a lot to me.
You don`t have to be in a leadership role as long as you are influencing others in a positive way. There are down sides to being a leader sometimes. Some people with Asperger`s can start their own business and set their own standards and be the boss. My half cousin is an Aspie and he is doing OK.
Thank-you for sharing about this Jay. God is an awesome creator and he's definitely got his hand upon your life. This helps us understand one another in this world so thank-you
sorry about miss spelling and some miss placed words. I hope you can still understand the meaning and truth behind my written words and I hope you feel the love in what I say and I hope that all humans get to experiance their inner self and the part of us that is higher power than anything of the mind and body. This enriches our mind and body so we can be that love of God and use it to create what we are here to do and live our lives in the best way we can. AS I consider a gift to help mankind x
I think I respond to that question with "pretty good" about 99% of the time, regardless of how I'm actually doing... it's just become a kneejerk response at this point because it takes too much thought to try and distill my day into a few short words, and I just cop-out and say "pretty good"... and then I have to remind myself "it's polite to ask how they're doing", which I sometimes forget and then later wonder if I seemed rude... ugh, the nuances of socializing!
BTW, no one really knows I have Asperger´s. Never told anyone besides my family & my best friend. One girl even thinks I am a sociopath (I was told). People who dunno me well think I am like them b/c they think in stereotypes. Because I don´t behave like Rain man, many perceive me as weird, hysterical, antagonistic, childhish or stupid. In reality, I am almost nothing of that. Just weird. I tend to overreact b/c of being overstimulated but I still don´t think it´s hysteria. Or is it?
i think AS is wonderful and it is a gift and if you can use it to do magnifiscent things for yourself and for the world and God too. You use your ability to focus and focus on the love and the light and you will progress at high speeds to levels of great knowledge that are beyond the human minds comprehension but you will understand it in your heart and know it is real with your soul. Your knowledge and understanding on a spiritual level and the guidance of love make better us of ur skills 4 all
Me too. I was offered a Senior Accountant position. I too am a foreigner, as well. My English is British English, as I am originally from the United KIngdom of Great Britain. My interpersonal skills were really bad at the time, all those years ago. I was more like a Vulcan from Star Trek. I used to burn myself up in overwork too.
That is what I feel is behind it all and why you do have these differences is so you can do things properly and what is most importantly and still be in a place of extacy and excitement even if other people around you can not see as much by looking at you. It will shine out through your soul and whole being. These are just impressions I get so I share them with you as that is my job to tell the truth with love about anything positive that I feel I share with you so you too can benefit from it
just watched Mary And Max(2009)..gr8 movie! thought I should know more about Asperger's Syndrome.. feels good to know so many good people are out there :)
I can tell your an Aspie. I can see it when people write or talk. You don't have ADHD. There have been a lot of misdiagnoses over the years because of their lack of knowledge about Aspergers. Many symptoms of ADD/ADHD are in Aspergers. If you had ADHD, your paragraph wouldn't have been as well written. It would have been very choppy, but it wasn't. The typos only indicate passion. You were very passionate and frustrated when you wrote it. That came through clearly.
See it's hard to tell exactly when someone qualifies for an ASD because ASD's are different to each person who experiences one. But there IS a cut-off point for a diagnosis. Where? I'm not exactly sure where it stands criteria-wise. But point-wise, I know on the standard 50 question Aspergers/Autism test, the cut off is about 26. (I score around 39) You don't always have to have ALL the symptoms to be labeled as Autistic but you have to be pretty darn close.
I totally get not divulging the 'A-word' too soon. Even if someone is not ignorant but just uninformed, it can be tiring to explain every detail and sometimes there's not enough time.
It can seem bleak, but I still believe we are capable of much more - we just need to make the right environment for ourselves (with some help of course).
I will most definitely. I was lucky enough to get some employment supports through Prospects (apart of the National Autistic Society) back in the United Kingdom of Great Britain. It made a difference whilst I was there.
I get the impression that people with AS will use their ability to create amazing things for the world. I feel in the perfect world of God people with AS will be the inventors of Gods ideas and inspirations in many ways. I just feel that they have their own special role and they chose to have AS before they entered the human body, to help them focus on the light, meditation becomes your obsession and hobby to be the light and in place of love. The traits of AS can help you be very spiritual
Both I would say, because people with full blown Autism and Aspergers both have difficulties understanding non verbal cues like holding out your hand for a high five or a handshake. And difficulty reading body language.
Heres a point some aspies may agree with, im saying this bcoz i have it too- If someone starts speaking to you like you are a child tell them no offense but i dont like the way you are talking to me. Why are you talking to me like im a child? Then they may think twice!
I understand what you mean, however these people who may not even be that experienced with talking to people with aspergers, may just be unsure how "complex" they should formulate themselves... From my own experience I can say that that I've met some people who have extreme difficulty grasping figues of speech, metaphors and other analogies... I think they just want to express themselves as clear as they can. Keep in mind that you can't expect evry1 to read yr mind on how far they can go or not
i'm one of the 'could be' Aspies, haven't been diagnosed yet but i'm getting ready to get the testing. yay human labels. i'm sorry, but i don't like the tee shirt-though the idea has a good basis, it could be demeaning or just the way Blonde read it off. yes, if you ask me how i'm doing as you're walking in a different direction i'm wondering if you actually want to know. if someone else asks me how i'm doing, and i've already told you "i've had better days" guess how i feel when you repeat me?
Oh, no, sorry I suppose i didn't explain right. It's not about right or wrong, you get either 1 or 0 points based on how you answer each question. I can't link it to you here, I'll send it in a PM
When people talk to me like that I remind them I am an adult and expect to be spoken to like one. And I find it very offensive when an NT uses the term "aspie".
Hes trying so hard to keep eye contact and he is so tense. I know exactly how he feels x good on you mate x

I wish all people spoke as clearly, wisely and succinctly as this man. God bless him.

Uhhh no. Aspergers doesn't go away just because you're an adult. It's a condition that affects you for the rest of your life.

Hey I met him, he was giving a presentation in Calgary. Hi Jay! :)
I do agree with Jay that I have difficulty in multi tasking

Dude, that T-Shirt hit the nail on the head.

Heres a point some aspies may agree with, im saying this bcoz i have it too-

I have AS as well and my expirence with "Christians" was the total oppisosite of this dude's expirence.
Such an amazing man
i'm one of the 'could be' Aspies, haven't been diagnosed yet but i'm getting ready to get the testing. yay human labels.
i'm sorry, but i don't like the tee shirt-though the idea has a good basis, it could be demeaning or just the way Blonde read it off.
yes, if you ask me how i'm doing as you're walking in a different direction i'm wondering if you actually want to know. if someone else asks me how i'm doing, and i've already told you "i've had better days" guess how i feel when you repeat me?
I think this is very endearing. I know a couple more aspies and they all seem very nice. They just take things easy.
I like this guy. I dnt know why.
Oh, no, sorry I suppose i didn't explain right. It's not about right or wrong, you get either 1 or 0 points based on how you answer each question. I can't link it to you here, I'll send it in a PM
same here.

if you find a way, let me know :)
That's odd. Most Aspies are atheist. Is this show focused on religion?
I'm sorry, what do you mean?
I want that T-shirt!!! ^_^
I am not religious.
WOOH GO US
welcome to fucking reality.
