I’m a 20 year heavy equipment mechanic. My take on ether, on the cold days, the shot of ether gets that engine up to low idle, and gets that oil pressure up to start lubricating the engine. See lots of guys will let the engine spit and sputter on a cold day for way too long. On a big Diesel engine a couple shots of ether is not going to wash all the oil off the cylinder wall and damage the engine. It is a valuable tool to use. Also saves starters, battery, wiring. Just my take. Just a mechanic here that is starting to dabble in the tree business.
People saying diesels get addicted to either always annoyed me too. All my equipment when it gets cold gets squirted with a little either to start it’s easier on batters starters and probably on the engine itself rather than cranking the piss out of them. I haven’t had one get ruined yet by either and that’s 7 different engines and thousands and thousands of hours
tough week and then followed by Delta blowing through. At least you got some more pulp wood loads and the machines got some TLC. Another week closer to deer season. :-)
Ether can create low compression which will require its continued use. Some engines can take it and some can't. I have an old case tractor that used to start fine down to about -10 degrees Celsius unassisted. Due to research I did I determined never to use ether in it and it was great for 3 years. I then took it to a mechanic who used ether on it and now it won't start at -10 plugged in for 12 hours ahead of time. I haul logs from a hi-lead show up in North East British Columbia and we ether start the Cummins ISC in the 2800 Madill loader when it is cold (below -20C) all winter and it takes it and keeps on with no problems. Depends on your rings mostly.
Maybe a good video idea for the future...When I was growing up, we trimmed our roads with brush axes and machetes. About 15 years ago, I started using a straight shaft hedge trimmer. I had a Stihl at first and used it for years and then replaced it with a Husqvarna 525 this year. They are expensive, but once you do it that way you’ll never want to use a hand tool or even a pole saw again (as long as what you are cutting is 1” or smaller). I use a pole saw or chain saw for anything bigger, but in my experience the trimmer will take of 98% of everything as long as you trim less than every 4-5 years. You can cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time and not be worn out from slinging a machete. Very efficient! Maybe you could get Husqvarna to give you one in return for making a video with it. I bet they would sell a few more as a result.
Tim we have the utmost respect for you and really enjoy your channel, so when I say this I am just offering a little help and not being argumentative. The ether myth does hold some truth. Ether burns extremely hot and after prolonged use it can alter the injectors spay pattern. This can prevent the fuel from atomizing and make for a hard start. Thanks for another great video and hope it’s better for y’all next week!
I subscribed after watching one video...logging reminds me of farming..just too many moving parts something bound to break. Keep rolling with the punches man!
Sometimes when guys are using either wrong they do damage I think. And then after that it will take either to get it going. But either done right won’t hurt your motor. Up here in Canada we go through quite a bit of it if things don’t get plugged in or a block heater fails. But soon as the summer hits the either goes away. Great videos👍 as always!
That ether myth is because of what you just said underlying problems people never figure out. Poor fuel pressure, low compression, glow plugs etc people never fix them they just keep on squirting that ether. Heck I squirt ether in our packer every time we crank it because we don’t use it every day or sometimes for multiple weeks before we crank it up. That packer has a injector pump that’s been going out.
Hyundai and Toyota Vehicles have relays that looks a whole lot like that TigerCat Relay LoL there probably the same except for the big differences in the price tags... I've got 3 Different relays like that one your holding and there not any good but I pulled the plastic Caps off of them and it's mainly a couple or so small diodes and 1 would coil Inside of them with 2 small spring metal connectors and copper contacts on each end of them and that's about it... What happened to 2 of the 3 bad relays I have, was the square plastic outer caps had broke their seals that holds them to the bottom plastic piece the plug-in blade terminals and basically moisture had gotten in them and caused them to fail,, I was told the heat from the engine is enough to cause it to happen over a period of time and to always inspect them at least every other Oil change the Vehicle Requires
The world is home to over three trillion trees with almost half of them living in tropical or subtropical forests. There are roughly 400 trees for every human. The research says 15.3 billion trees are chopped down every year. Years ago, Earth had twice as many trees as it does now.
The problem with the new stuff like this tiger feller cuter thoase darn little stupid $10part holding up a million dollar machean well no one sead loging was easy u have the newest and best stuff and still break down and still buy new parts y i like to maintain and take care of are equipment and got that new stuff wont break down out of my head i watch so meny guys who go into bisness thinking if they buy new stufd they wont need to worry about break downs and lern fast they never get away from fixing and lern their going to fix their own stuff fast .haha the idicted to eather its it has somthing wrong like you sead and you guys cant find it alot of times its the fuel returs one oring need replacing and it just isent holding enough all the time .i had a dozer with bad compresion what mad me compreshion test was always needed eather 90degree day would need small sniff 1 out of 4 had low compreshion
👍Thankyou for sharing!

Great job on the video. That’s some tuff conditions for working on stuff
Some days stuff don't go as planned . Just stay positive and you will have a positive outcome .
and itll become more and more often as the electromagnetic energies increase
Great video Tim
Could have easily titled that one Mondiest Monday Ever!! In regards to mechanical stuff like your loader, sometimes nothing ever truly is simple.

I agree with you about ether, I've never understood how a piece of machinery could get addicted to it.
We have a freightliner at the fire Dept that was a military truck, it has a ether pump on it.

I was driving a straight truck 35ft ,that thing wouldn't start without ether, until it was fixed,it would only do it when you first started it
I guess that means it is time for you to move up another machine because you been operateing that loader for a good while

Your loader was going through DT's lol
Nice
There would be days like that.
I would like to know what the real problem is that wood cause it get that hot?

I'm from Bogalusa,La & have a 79 Peterbilt. I'm trying to get into logging...
U need somewhere to haul?im needing trucks hauling to bogie and Wiggins
@@bartoncameron5771 Yes sir I do!!!!!
@@bartoncameron5771 How do I get in contact with you?
An expensive start to the week there Tim:(

@effinghamhick Sir, pay attention: There use to be more than 6 trillion trees on Earth a few hundred years ago. Half is missing!
I have been a believer in the crack head engines 😂 but it’s because I’m not paying for a rebuild lol spray it and run it
Lol 💪🏻👍🏻
Must be a Monday 😬
you never said what was the problem.
How come we never see Chad in you videos anymore ?
Is he still working for yall ?
He is in them all the time. He was in Saturday’s video.
@@cotontop3 i havent been watching every one of you vids lately been busy love your channel !!
