      Thanks for your good tip. ❤ I just got Daniel Smith's secondary set and it has the Quinn burnt orange in it. It's been on sale for less than $30, so I figured I couldn't go wrong. I have the basic colors and wanted something a little more exciting. I'll try this combo on my 'grey page'.

    For those in love with the M. Graham PB60 and wanting to try it but for some reason don't have the option to, a Very(!) affordable and similar option is the Rosa Gallery PB60. It doesn't have the same texture in masstone and isn't as matte, but they are close in both intensity and hue. Plus, the RG one is Ukrainian. It's my second favourite! ☺️ Also love the QoR one, it's intense and smooth, but expensive.

      Oh, thanks. I just picked up some Rosa Gallery... it's been on super sale for a while clearing out their stock. The 24 piece in a paper box was less than $15! So I picked up a couple of those and two of their modern 21 colors in a tin. It's still on sale for $23! The tin is really lovely, and it has cobalt turquoise and indanthrene blue, which the first set does not have. I also have been looking at some tubes and comparing Daniel Smith to M Graham. I chose the M Graham for pb60... your comment reassures me that I made the right choice.

    I just swatched my W&N indanthrone next to the M Graham dot that I have and wow they are very different. MG is more like a moody navy and probably what this pigment is more meant to look like. WN is definitely brighter, like a pthalo as you said. The WN is like a non-granulating ultramarine, which is what I've been using it as, but I definitely need the MG to get the deep stormy blues that my soul craves sometimes :)

    These are fine, but M. Graham has the most beautiful PB60 I have tried, especially in the mass tone. It is more vibrant than either of these paints. My advice is to splurge on the M. Graham, you won’t regret it.

      The Rosa Gallery one is very close to the M. Graham one in intensity. It doesn't really have the same texture in masstone, and I am in LOVE with the M. Graham PB60, but the Rosa Gallery is a close second! And the QoR is great if you want an intense one that's very smooth (though costly). ☺️

    It seems Daniel Smith is looking a bit richer and more muted here, I like that. I am currently using Schmincke PB60 (Delft Blue) and it looks darker and more muted than the White Nights. When I use White Nights I find myself wanting to adjust it with a bit of Indigo so that it becomes deeper XD

    Interesting. The White Nights version looks more transparent to me than the other two, which makes it quite pretty. But the Daniel Smith one is simply a beautiful color, as is the W&N, and I think you're right - the DS looks warmer than the other two, and the W&N looks brighter, more like a Phthalo. I guess the long and short of it is that I like all three, but if I didn't watch them go down on paper and I was only looking at the dried swatches, I would probably choose White Nights, lol.

    • @PaintinHiding

      haha, i completely know what you mean! they're all beautiful in their own way. it just depends which hue and characteristics one would prefer. if i had a fullpan of white nights, i think i might've enjoyed it more than tube.

    Oh wow, nice Tintoretto brush. I have the ridiculously long liners. I want to get their travel quill :-)
    PB 60 is one of my favorite colors. It seems there are several variants, some smokier and some more vibrant, and some redder.I have DS (well, I actually used it up... it's super red and very smoky), M. Graham (a particularly beautiful and dark one), Sennelier (nothing special) and Qor (very saturated blue like the W&N you show here). I would buy more of the Qor and the M. Graham but they are quite different! Oh I want to try Mission Gold someday, theirs also gets super dark.

    • @PaintinHiding
      @PaintinHiding  2 года назад

      i want their travel sword. jackson's doesn't have it but it's on the tintoretto site. your long liner also comes in a travel brush form as well. i wish jackson's would stock them. they're so unique.
      oohh i love your use of the word smoky here, very fitting! yeah, i've tried mission gold's dot card and their PB60 is definitely very pigmented. edit: haul vid with travel quill coming later this week ;P

    nice swatches! I fell in love with PB60 when I tried it in Schmincke and it has a place in every of my palettes as my cool blue. It's pretty versatile and nice deep blue. The White Nights and W&N looked so much like Prussian Blue in your swatches, almost weird. Do you know if it was the camera or are the colours indeed that different?
    Last year there was a shortage of PB60 and QoR and White Nights had problems with their suppliers. QoR mentioned, that they've solved the issue and have found a replacement, so they can keep the quality. While White Nights have added another PB60 to their range to replace the hue they could not get anymore. So the differences in the colours could be due to the different suppliers and quality of the pigment maybe?

    • @PaintinHiding
      @PaintinHiding  2 года назад +1

      ohh i recently got the schmincke dot card, i'll keep an eye out for that PB60 :D hmmm i think it's the camera to screen problem where it just doesn't capture it very well.
      OOHH now that you mention it, i think i remember white nights adding a new PB60. i think you're spot on in that assessment, most likely diff supplier.

    Here, even in the painting, you can see that the White Nights have formed into some kind of clumps... I never understood why people in Europe admire them so much? The only thing interesting about them is the price. This is where the advantages end.
