Progressives need to fight the structural disadvantage we have because of the flyover states outsized influence on politics. We need to start discussing statehood for the 5 American territories w/o federal representation in Congress: DC, PR, American Samoa, Guam, US Virgin Islands.

AOC is right. Taxes on the wealthy and on corporations are at historic lows. Income inequality at record high levels. We can reverse this process with the policies AOC is putting forward.

What creates healthy economic growth is DEMAND, which will remain suppressed until we undo some of this inequality.
And the equality is taking place mostly between the top deciles, not between working class Americans. Over the last few decades, the tax burden has largely shifted to middle and lower earners. The problem is you're repeating a talking point withiout knowing anything about things like sales and payroll taxes.

That's FEDERAL INCOME TAXES moron. That leaves out sales and payroll taxes, both of which are rather regressive. I AM saying this isn't as disproportionate as it seems AND the burden has shifted over the last few decades onto lower and middle earners as payroll taxes have footed a higher percentage of the bill.

Nice straw man. I didn't say it competitiveness has NOTHING to do with it. I AM saying that demand is the primary factor. Also, check the effective tax rates. US corporate taxes weren't really that high and were in line with the OECD average (and already lower than Germany's). On top of that, we actually saw stronger job growth and GDP back in the days when the top tax rate on corporations was 50%. I'm not suggesting we raise them back to those levels, but my point is the facts contradict your echo chamber talking points.

Regarding housing costs, it can't be ignored that AOC has to maintain a residence in her district as well. So that's a NYC apartment AND a DC apartment she has to plan for the costs of. Since the 1990s, a number of Members of Congress have even taken to sleeping in their offices while they're in DC rather than rent or buy there. Jason Chaffetz, of all people, suggested Members of Congress should get a housing stipend to help them better bear that burden.

I say this as someone who is rather progressively minded (just not rabidly so), and agrees with most of their message/ideology, I just have an issue with some of their cheap, disingenuous, less than upfront tactics (not to mention some of their personal views outside of politics). I forgive myself that i have accepted and allowed myself to NOT realize the goods produced by the corporation comes from labor, a commodity without which the corporation and consumerism cannot exist, yet the corporate profit dictatorship manages to brand labor through religion to be something one must be grateful for, as everyone does not have jobs.
