I used to listen to this song while driving 200 miles home in the dark, snowy night after working a day on the road... it was wonderful to hear this cheerful song. I was very tired, lonely, and depressed, and these people made it possible to keep me keeping on... love and owe them!
I thought it was about Ice Cream. I think one of the ice cream ads on TV in the Philippines used the words "afternoon delight" and it stuck in my mind. While it sounded strange to be having ice cream on a cold dark night, I thought that was one of those things that adults could get away with.
I loved Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack baby! Growing up I was able to stay up late on Friday AND see hundreds of great bands live. Doesn't get much better than that!
A somewhat slower rendition than the original 1976 studio recording. Amazing really to think this was their only big hit considering the high quality of all their four studio albums released between 1976 and 1980.
Thanks to Burt Sugarman we have some of the only live performances of songs like this! Only a few shows didn't allow lip syncing. And those harmonies were perfect.
@@dannygraham7885 you do realize that adults in the 1970s weren’t mentally deficient or something right? You do know that right? My parents were around 30 years old when this song came out they knew exactly what it meant. It wasn’t some difficult puzzle to figure out.
My girlfriend at that time in 1975 used to come to my house and visit, among other things. And it was in the afternoon and when I heard the song I played it for and she liked it and said that is our song. It didn't last long the relationship, but I still love her anyway. And approximately 4 years later she was gone. Passed away in a car accident in California. And no one was held responsible for Reliable for it period prior to her leaving I asked her to stay and she said yes but I was too late. But this song always reminds me of our short relationship. And when I went into the service in 1976 I got a Dear John call from her . There were rumors spinning around that area at that time that I didn't even enlist in the army . How unfortunate for people who spread rumors and gossip. And that's why I dislike it so much today yet I love this song Still today

There is some very fine playing and singing on this but... the tempo is absolutely wrong. They took some of the pep out of it by playing it too slow. I wonder why very professional musicians wouldn't realize this and not do it that way. As I said, amazing rendition of their wonderful song in all other regards. Maybe why they never went further was that this was such a terrific song in so many ways. Hard to better or beat. Also their logo was so amateurish and boring. The opposite of them.
And, after that, they disappeared into the ether...... A failed attempt to become an American Abba. Their official video for this song is a direct ripoff. Trying to do this live revealed the reasons why they were a one hit wonder.
I don't care what people say about old music 🎵🎶 l love it it's better than rap any day 😎
Don't you mean crap music
@@richardprue4165 You got that right - rap CRAP
No need to throw rap under the bus

The 70's = Better music, Better culture, Better people!
Its about getting laid in an afternoon quickie.
Lol, everyone says that about their own generation
Right lol. Not mention the numerous unsolved cases and prolific killers being that time peeiod @CholfoGD
I used to think it was about relaxing on a blanket at the park and watching fireworks. I was 10
It is the name of a drink!
I thought the same thing -- during the fourth.

Lmao 🤣
I always thought it was something which had to involve a 2nd person.
Tubs out I was wrong. 🥴
And that my friends was the glorious 70’s ✌🏽
I absolutely love this song. It does remind me of a boyfriend I had at the time.
This is one of those Songs that Lots of people have "Figured Out!"

Great live version of a song that takes me back to my childhood, love the harmonies 🎶🎵🎶❤️

Greetings from ireland.they were great times to be alive
What such a sweet, harmonic song about getting some afternoon nookie
Still a great song and wonderful memories! I love the live performance!

I heard on RUclips how long it took to perfect this song Worth the wait
Im in the second row. We did this right after being on the Johnny Carson audience. fun!
DAMN !!! I LOVE SOME MORNING, AFTERNOON, and EVENING DELIGHT WITH Margot Chapman
This is one of the songs that I had no idea who performed it. Thanks for making it clear who did it. Great performance.
this beutiful music is soothing..........................................
I love this song, You DO know what this song is about, don't you? And it's not what you thought it was.
This is one of the better videos of Starland Vocal Band.
Again, this is one of those "Songs" that Lots of People figured out!!!

Love this song great
Oh my God I was in the third grade when this was big I’m 60 years old. This is what they look like my God. I don’t know if I’m happy or depressed.
Good old goldie. That is when music was music.
A little too slow. Still awesome. Midnight Special is how you see what true live performance is and how truly talented these people were.
Yeah it seems slow.
yeah, the decision to play this at a slightly slower tempo, was a bad one
I like the tune otherwise
Great. I like it when they increase the rhythm but I still like this rendition.

This was about two years after that song went to Number 1 - can you imagine how sick they were of singing it by then………????

I agree 👍 old school is the 👌.
I used to think that this song was about shooting off skyrockets in the afternoon!
I went to a Christian school and the choir teacher was gonna have us learn it till she learned what they meant. By the line afternoon delight
I've noticed the cadence was increased to a slightly more uptempo one later on.
Nice Upload!
Margot Chapman! ❤😊
😍
It's nice always like
I was sitting in the front row
Starland Vocal Band really took their style from the british harmony folk pop trio Prelude.
I think it was a lame attempt to become the American Abba. They failed. One hit wonder.

I used to love this song but, at age 7, I didn't know what "Afternoon Delight" referred to. I thought they meant watching Sesame Street.
Did they play any other songs for this show?
They need to change the speed from 33 to 45
I feel dirty
always had a thing for Margot Chapman
I never knew Yoko could sing so good!
She Can't... Sorry.

Both Indians
Beautiful
Slower tempo but still good.
Why was the blonde lady air guitaring?
Because it was cooler than that lollypop shaker she was holding
Why not?
Yes a tad slow…. But a great song…. I wonder how many times they sung this …
Always hated this song...total ear worm. but now that I see Margot....my dream girl of that era. Goddess!
How’s yer father past midday.
They must have gotten sick of singing that, though a nice sounding smutty ditty it was.
Its may 2023 and i never knew the lead vocal was a little known comedian Dave Letterman!
a little slow

Most bands Play live faster,
To get it done.
Fuck that,
I love slower,
It brings out more emotions and feelings
WAY to many problems with you tube. I am GONE.

Pick up the pace!
That guy can't really sing in tune. The girls are OK.

Forgot how stupid songs of 70s were.
Wow, that sucked. 🤪
It seems slow, I love this song though.
Didn't know Ed Bassmaster was in the band for this song .... Bartle do ......
How hot is the Hawaiian bird off this band, and and this song is so awesome....see you could sing about sex in the afternoon and make an amazing song.
