Not necessarily because if there are less resellers, it'll be harder to buy a retired set. At the same time, if there's less supply on the aftermarket, this could drive the prices higher. I've bought multiple retired sets from resellers for my personal collection even though they were expensive so I don't see what's the problem with them.
@@GabrielOuellet132it wouldnt be harder, you could just buy sets for not a billion dollars, scalpers and resellers artificially inflate prices so they can earn more money
@@RandoComandoStudios No one is forcing you to buy old sets. You can always buy new sets. If there didn't exist a market of old retired sets there would not be any way to get them once Lego stops producing them. I don't understand why this is a bad thing. The fact that I can still go buy an old modular building set that I missed out on, even though it's more expensive, is a positive thing to me. Otherwise I would need to find used ones and people would not give up theirs for cheap because there would be a lot of people like me who want them so once they post a listing they would be getting many offers paying more and more for it.
You’re right, definitely seems weird to buy lego with the sole intention of making money off it, although it works, I wish it didn’t. Collecting them on the other hand is pretty fun, I buy a lot of sets and leave them sealed (many that are pretty old now) with no intention of reselling. Mostly because of nostalgia but I also hope to open and build these sets later in life with my children or leave them for display.
How is it scalping if the set/figure is retired and not for sale anymore? isn't scalping when something is in high demand and outofstock and people are selling it higher than MSRP?
God forbid they make the minifigure of one of the most popular characters from a popular tv show more affordable and assessable Keep the scalper L’s coming
Oh no. I can't sell my little plastic toy for ridiculous prices! How dare people try to get minifigures they want for reasonable prices? Seriously, people who buy lego solely to sell it later are getting what they deserve. Screw them.
It can be both though. Usually what I'll do is purchase a few of them for resale and keep one of them for my personal collection. I've done that with the Boarding the Tantive IV set. That way, eventually I can sell the other sets to pay off the one I purchased for my personal collection. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. What causes the price to automatically be inflated is when people by a dozen + of the same set.
@@picklebulb1489 I agree - Lego is not about personal investment - and i'm so happy a figure - from a kids show - that everyone has wanted for years isn't behind a £560.00 paywall!
I like it because Lego doesn't care about your after market value. They don't make any money from Captain rex being $150 so why not make one cheaper that many will buy to get it for cheap. It's a smart move on their part. The wave of people that will buy the microfoghter will give them a lot of money. Not to mention everyone complaining about it will still buy all their sets anyways
i don't have a problem with resellers i have the problem with the prices and the scalpers. ive seen people list the Microfighter rex for £30 and saying they will ship it on June 10th. its stupid they think people would buy that over the Microfighter.
Yeah, probably so it's not that bad for the UCS Venator afterall. It's more the fact that it was supposed to be exclusive and then was re-released that's the issue. It's good that there's finally an affordable Captain Rex though.
I agree lego should have kept the Rex exclusive, but honestly at the end of the day it’s not that big of a deal. I have more of a problem with lego being so inconsistent with what they want to do with UCS figures. But whatever it’s lego, these aren’t that big of issues
Yeah, I agree. Honestly I didn't even invest in the UCS Venator and if I were to buy it, which I might, it'll be for my personal collection so it's all good. It's just unfortunate for investors that bought it to resell it.
I will totally invest in the Rex micro fighter. I am mostly just colleting Lego sets that I like and don't want to miss out on. You know, all investments come with risks and when it comes to Lego I think it's very important to realize that Lego can remake an old set or do whatever they want at any point. That is just a risk you take. And I think that's what investing is all about, taking risks, some higher some lower. I think it's great that we are able to get minifigures that are hard to get otherwise.
