Thats one thing I noticed as well from other videos. The Falcon just looks so much larger and unique. This set should have been $550 maybe $600 and it would have been perfect, but $800 is so steep when compared to the Star destroyer or the Falcon.
I wish the large vehicle UCS sets came with more customization options included. The Falcon did a good job with the figures and small parts. Maybe some optional universal interior decorations so that you can display either side open without it feeling so empty.
@@scarletpumpernickel8260 You are correct that this is Hoth specific and that the Falcon is marketed universal across the movies. Endor wasn’t even a thought in my mind. ☺️ I’m also not talking about a completely different marketing scheme though. Given that context, I simply mean that if I display the set “open” from either side, I only see the backs of seats for a large portion. Having additional “mini/sub assemblies” to optionally replace those would have been a nice touch. For your idea, I would have wanted extra parts to make the feet/boots of that AT-AT muddy too! Or even some moss elements. Maybe they will make a future AT-ST more universal.🤞 Personally speaking, sky as the limit, I would have given up all the snow troopers for some giant orange side pieces. I really enjoyed Rouge One.
That end note about the green parts was a truly wonderful inclusion. I have no idea when I could ever possibly get this set as I'm only 15 but I've never heard that problem before. Whenever I do get this set, I'll be sure to remember this so I don't have 4 chunks of pieces stuck together for the rest of time.
Got it from the lego store on tuesday, built it within 3 Days now and it really is a scary thing, it is huge and honestly from a distance it doesent even look like lego anymore and the insides are beuatifull. great set, really rivals my Millennium Falcon.
I still can’t believe Lego made this minifig scaled atat. This is not just a ucs it’s a playset ! I’m loading mine up with snowtroopers and having battles with rebel troopers
When you were demonstrating how to move the thing without destroying it my brain was flashing back to the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show that was on a few weeks ago. I just hope the wealthy collectors who bought this thing don’t buy all of the snow trooper battle packs on day one. Some of us have kids who would actually play with the stuff.
It seems that they really need to design these bigger sets for stability and ease of transport. I just finished the UCS Millennium Falcon a few days ago, and that thing started losing panels and stuff came loose inside.I couldn’t even figure out where most of the loose stuff was supposed to be attached. It’s discouraging me from getting the UCS Star Destroyer. I don’t need the headache. I’ve abandoned the thought of getting the vertical stand for the Falcon. I know that crap will fall apart if I attempt to mount it. Unfortunately,I can’t build these things on the spot where I’ll have them on display.
I have the UCS Star Destroyer and... yeah, it's a bit of a pain. Luckily everything is external so if a panel comes off then it's obvious where it's supposed to go back on.
@@AmrXcellent maybe he’ll go back to the Falcon? could perhaps even borrow one from someone maybe? I’d like to know his thoughts on that and the Titanic - other large more display focused sets
I just completed mine & I love it! The size is so imposing and gives a sense of how intimidating the real thing would have been, especially when a minifig is standing next to one of those feet! I love that it matches the cutaway drawing so closely! As large as it is it doesn't take up a lot of real estate in comparison to the falcon or star destroyer. I'm going to have a mini hoth battle on top of my dresser. While I won't be playing with it, I will be able to change up the display on occasion. For me it's a holy grail set. It does have a few niggling issues but I expected that to some degree.
Really enjoyed your straight up honest review . I built this monstrosity last week and it is big , real accurate and people who have seen it cant believe its a lego set . I do see what you mean about extreme posing with this leg design but my concerns are more about the head of the walker , lets come back next year at this time and see if the head hasnt sagged more then it originally is today ..
Hey man! Crazy to see you here again. I remember the good old days of 1/6 scale collecting and watching your videos :) I'm building this monster as well as we speak and I also have a concern with the head over the long term. It's so heavy! I can imagine it sagging even more. Luckily Lego parts can be replaced easily for the most part but the neck is really something I'm worried about.
I applaud the designers for at least *attempting* to allow such an enormous model to have articulated limbs, sadly it just doesn't seem to be really feasible within Lego's own building standards. Great review as always, Jang!
I just read every comment in this review. Jang your amazing, thank you for your honest and thorough review! This set does have flaws that were not apparent before this review and discussion in this level of detail. I'm finding Lego level of detail a bit less then desirable. With the talk about the drivers, Luke Skywalker inclusion in this set, and leg stability. Accuracy in a set like this is very important to me. The faces on soldiers is a welcome change up. I think when I get the chance to build my first UCS I will change out the driver heads, install 3 axle bushings, and colorswap a lot of the odd colors out. Keep up the great work Jang!
Magnificent review Jang - unlike the AT - AT it was well balanced with no gaps and you didn’t repeat yourself four times. This set is one I’ll get with a boat load of VIP points 🥰 👍
I don’t know if I’ll get this or not. When I went to my LEGO store an employee I know quite well actually advised me not to get it due to the problems it has with the leg articulations.
I bought it this weekend, and am still building it. It's my first UCS-set. I really like the build, the fact that it is minifig-scale (for me a reason why I don't get most UCS-sets) and the fact that I can easily make space for it (I don't have space for the Falcon). I also got the 2020 one, and with them together, I can create the illusion of depth on a narrow shelf. And yes, I pre-ordered 11 battle packs from a local store that gives 20% discount on the pre-orders of the upcoming snowtrooper battle pack to fill the AT-AT up.
Always nice to read back your reviews after I built it myself. I had some doubts on my own findings, but now I know it isn't just me facing the problems with some weak connections.
If you think $800 is bad, just remember that this is 800€ here in Finland (and probably all other Euro countries as well). To put that into perspective, it's roughly $903 USD. So it's even more ridiculously expensive.
I do understand why people wouldn't think this is worth the price, and objectively speaking - it isn't. However. Ever since I was a kid I've always wanted a set like this, an AT-AT that was to scale with figures and could fit the canon amount inside. The AT-AT is one of my favourite Sci-Fi vehicles of all time, so I have a massive bias in support of it. Now, I probably won't ever be able to afford it myself as I can barely scrape by with food, but I will do everything I can do in order to get my hands on this thing as soon as possible. Because no matter what I'll have to endure, I need this set. Sick leave can get outta here, I'm gonna have to make and sell so much art to earn up for this, cuz to me it's definitely worth it. Not a huge fan of the Falcon but I do agree, objectively, with it offering more. But it doesn't compare to the AT-AT. First time I watched Star Wars was at my dad's place and it was airing on TV. We turned it on and the AT-AT attack scene was playing, so it's technically my very first impression of Star Wars, which may be why the vehicle means so much to me.
The AT-AT is my favorite Star Wars vehicle and is the most-likely subject to get me into UCS, but all I can think about is what other Lego sets you can buy for $800. I realize UCS is for "The AFOL Who Has Everything," but I wish the AT-AT was closer to Titanic price (what a crazy time to be alive).
Well it depends on what kind of LEGO person you are. I personally am building my “near minifig scale” collection so I’d rather have this than the playset AT-AT.
Like you, I have an affinity with the AT AT and chicken walker. I want this set but it’s not worth the asking price. I got the smaller at at last year and modded it. I would suggest that the better use of cash. This one is big, but is it clever? To buy one.
Thanks God i m not a star wars or harry potter fan and i can save money for other sets. I'm here just to see new building technics and work overall made by Lego. I'm totally with people disappointed for price and other stuff. 800€ was a fair price only for Millennium Falcon.
Those green sleeves at 24:20 that are controversial... Do they actually provide any benefit at all? Without being hands-on with it, they seem completely unnecessary.
I have bought it, looking forward to building it, i have the millennium falcon and the star destroyer In my collection thank you for a great video greeting from Johnny
I just want to say jang that I value your #NOTSponsored reviews in high regard, and have a huge amount of respect for you as a member of the Lego community
Lego should seriously reconsider stickers in an 800 EUR set. That's just ridiculous and competition is increasingly sticker free at lower price points. At smaller sets I can get the point of stickers, printed pieces are very expensive and for play sets children are better served when the money goes into pieces instead of prints but for such premium items there are no excuses left.
Just bought it for 559€! Really nice 4th May discount right now! Plus my own Insider Points and Gift Cards! For that price, Im completely happy! And the AT-AT is my favorite vehicle ever!!
This is a display not a toy and I'm sure the person creating this set thought ability and pose but focused more on posing not playing due to it being an adult set not a kid set unfortunately you can't get both worlds...I just bought this set and what I love about lego is that we have the option to now have huge sets like this and several other's my next set will be the eiffel tower!! And great review as always by jangs
Do I see black 2L axles in the ankles?! Did Lego just prove that they are both willing AND perfectly able to produce Technic pieces in non-gaudy colors in order to not ruin the looks of a model? Then why, oh why, did they stop halfway there and still built the interior of the legs and the underbelly AND EVEN _VISIBLE_ PARTS OF THE ARMOR PLATES in all colors of the rainbow and then some?! I was really impressed, though, when you opened it up and it had an actual interior, filled with seats and some other details. I did not expect that at all. Crazy that it doesn't need all that space for structural support.
The 2021 r2d2 set had a very similar thing as to those green parts, it caused a huge headache when I realized I had made a mistake earlier on and had to get it appart, had to grab a pair of pliers to take it apart
@Jang regarding the green sleeves. I had a chance to sit down with Henrik (the designer) at the LEGO fan Christmas Dinner in Billund. He addressed this, and this was done completely on purpose for structure. the piece CAN be taken apart, he passed out some examples to each of the tables and let people take them apart. This wasn't a mistake and the effort to take apart was in consideration. Obviously, this set was designed for adults on display, so the difficult-to-take apart piece was discussed and approved by the design, marketing, product, and engineering teams. In fact, most of us at the table were eventually able to take them apart.
Thanks for sharing this. This actually makes the whole thing more bizarre to me though. Why not use a 3x half-bushing or 1x bushing + 1x half bushing solution instead? I'm sure there are other design options as well that tick every necessary box. Disassembly of a set should never require direct instruction from a LEGO senior designer or the use of out-of-system techniques like bending parts that aren't supposed to be bent. As I briefly demonstrated and more extensively experienced behind the scenes, other parts of the leg assemblies are weaker and fail under stress before the inner shoulders with the green sleeves omitted. [Edit: A bit of extra context. I have disassembled the exact "impossible" assembly from this kit without my bare hands, and I feel it's significantly trickier than should be expected. With a tool or allowance for slight damage to the (cheap, common) axle it'd of course be easier. I've done far, far trickier "impossible" disassemblies in the past including some of the classics of the early aughts and some pretty silly shortcuts to edit models in place without hours of proper disassembly & re-assembly. I respect and openly laud the strength designed into official LEGO sets far more than most folks I see. This here, though, seems like an unnecessary complication and circumvention of standards. I believe there are times when even folks who are the best in the world at what they do can make decisions or reach conclusions that are not absolutely perfect.]
yeah, if the designer had used a 4L without the stopper it would've actually been impossible to remove the piece but the stopper means you can wedge a knife or nails in it. frankly too much hay has been made over the stopper and the diversity of the figures
Owning the $160 one and seeing this one here… the $160 one is FAAAARRR more worth it. Save yourself $600+ and get the $160 one. The rope retracts and the speeder is just as good.
If it had 2 Scout Troopers to go with the Speeder bikes and at least enough Snow Troopers to fill half the seats so 16 more it would be worth the price. It's still an amazing set would rather have this than the Falcon because of the full interior and much easier to display.
I think ultimately Lego just isn't something I would ever spend this much on, like sure it's a cool model of a fan-favorite vehicle but at this price and size the UCS lines kinda just reached insane unrealistic levels, feels like Lego REALLY stretching how far people will spend on they're funny little toy bricks.
I feel like this is pretty much a Disney/Star Wars thing (even if Lego is capable of such thing but not to that extent). Star Wars fans are willing to spend WAY more than any other fandom when it come to goodies, and "they" know it.
@@goldpotato1885 That's ok to have fun while it last, my point was that companies are exploiting that and Star Wars fans are pretty much milked. It could be 200$ less.
@@satellachannel6423 I really hate how so many fans are so consumerist. Like I love Star Wars and you don't need to buy toys or other produces to be a fan, just love the media itself and let that carry you. Being a fan shouldn't be an exercise in capitalism.
That's a great point if you have that much to spare, build a whole hoth scene, tons of figures from battle packs, some larger vehicles, much more fun and better value imo. Great review!
Detailed review; really enjoyed it. But $800 is lots of gas fill ups, lots of groceries, two tanks of home heating oil. Perspective and self-control are necessary attitudes to have when having Legos as a hobby...
Yeah,I feel the same way about the UCS Falcon. I was really disappointed that the interior was pretty much non-existent on such a big build. It was a deal breaker for me. I suppose I could have modded it to have a proper interior,it is Lego after all. But for the work it'd take,I'd probably be better off getting the 2019 Falcon and modding the cockpit to be a bit bigger. What do you think? Mod an interior for the UCS Falcon or get the 2019 and see what can be done with the cockpit?
Practical and usefull review. I have the Falcon and you've confirmed, that I don't need one more giant Star Wars UCS set. That's why I didn't buy the Imperial SD either.
Just got this thing for 600 € (with tax) and for that price, this set is just a gem. The only problem with it is the fragility of the main torso when you try to lift it up. Otherwise it's stable, beautiful and has one of the best interiors of any UCS set.
Like the UCS Star Destroyer and UCS Millennium Falcon (both of which I have built and still have) this is a display model. The Falcon is perhaps the "flimsiest" LEGO set that I have ever built, but I still love it. This AT-AT reminds me of that - for show, not for go. Expensive, yes. Awesome, definitely. Glad I have it in my collection. Great review as always JANG. Thorough, complete and honest.

Having additional “mini/sub assemblies” to optionally replace those would have been a nice touch.
For your idea, I would have wanted extra parts to make the feet/boots of that AT-AT muddy too! Or even some moss elements. Maybe they will make a future AT-ST more universal.🤞
Personally speaking, sky as the limit, I would have given up all the snow troopers for some giant orange side pieces. I really enjoyed Rouge One.
@@scarletpumpernickel8260 was not aware of the size differences between them. Why can’t we be part of the focus groups?! 🤣
The AT-AT is my favorite vehicle since childhood but that is waaaaay too many bones to spend.
I'm actually shocked Jang said he wouldn't have bought this if it wasn't for the channel. I remember him saying how much the ATAT meant to him.
I wish lego did more ucs sets beyond the original trilogy. It's like lego has a bias towards large grey shapes.
They'll probably wait for the first big reduce- then again, on second thought if they justify it to themselves to buy this that might not stop them.
You gotta make a channel called JANG upgrades where you upgrade lego sets to make them up to your standard
Jang, I’m curious. I remember you said you didn’t want to buy the $800 UCS Falcon. However, what made you decide to buy the equally expensive AT-AT?
He also said space played an important role, the Falcon has a much larger footprint as long as you don't mount it vertically.
He already said it in the video. He bought it for the content (so he can create this video and get the views/ad revenue). This is his daily job!
I remember the good old days of 1/6 scale collecting and watching your videos :)
I'm building this monster as well as we speak and I also have a concern with the head over the long term.
These large sets are great, just impossible to move around.
wow what a treat! Jang rarely reviews these absolutely massive sets
Can’t wait to watch this a bit later
I don’t think a Lego employee would tell you NOT to buy this set lol.
really should have come with a darth vader hologram statuette since the cockpit has the hologram machine on veers table thing.
I think I’ll survive with the $160 model that can be found for almost $50 cheaper at times already.
Day off work and this comes up, perfect timing
If you think $800 is bad, just remember that this is 800€ here in Finland (and probably all other Euro countries as well). To put that into perspective, it's roughly $903 USD. So it's even more ridiculously expensive.
When people in the US talk about price it’s always ex VAT cause different states have different taxes. In Europe we always talk ink VAT. Just fyi
I can see lego taking the AT-AT head build and making it a 50$set with 4 characters
The issue with these imperial sets is that they're always grey slabs with very little colour. They just aren't very interesting to look at.
Those Star Wars UCS sets sure are a heck of a lot of gray.
Well, most military vehicles aren't exactly painted in bright colours.
Some DOTS sets later and it can be very colorful
That beginning…. 😂 😂 😂 amazing! Love it
Those green sleeves at 24:20 that are controversial... Do they actually provide any benefit at all? Without being hands-on with it, they seem completely unnecessary.
Excellent. Your review has come much sooner then I expected.
I have bought it, looking forward to building it, i have the millennium falcon and the star destroyer In my collection thank you for a great video greeting from Johnny
Got any plans for the 40 sand blue chairs and $800 worth of light grey pieces?
*That is the set that everybody wants and almost no one has.*
*What an irony.*
*Great review btw!* 👍
Twenty years ago I got the AT-AT legos set for Christmas, and it was the best Lego set I’ve ever gotten. Defos support their new AT-AT sets to come.
To fill up the atat is another $250
When is the proper scale UCS Death Star getting released?
Still hoping for a minifig scale Tantive IV though :). It would "only" be 2.5 meters.
never lol😹
Decades worth of modular sets that come along to put it together
I know you're joking but I wanna spread some knowledge
A minifig scale death star would be about as wide as Manhattan
I just want to say jang that I value your #NOTSponsored reviews in high regard, and have a huge amount of respect for you as a member of the Lego community
Now how big (and expensive) would a properly scaled death star be?
I know I have asked for this model and I am glad that it is available, I don't have the cash to buy it but, I am glad you got to buy it.
Great review. Brilliant intro. I do think it looks thoroughly impressive, but the dust... oh, the dust.
Just bought it for 559€! Really nice 4th May discount right now! Plus my own Insider Points and Gift Cards! For that price, Im completely happy! And the AT-AT is my favorite vehicle ever!!
Basically this is Lego porcelain on 4 wobbly legs. I guess the armor isn’t too strong for blasters after all.
And great review as always by jangs
i had the falcon and sold it. to me the At-At is the best UCS. I love mine :)
2L pieces have been produced in black for some time now, it’s just that red is more common.
The 2021 r2d2 set had a very similar thing as to those green parts, it caused a huge headache when I realized I had made a mistake earlier on and had to get it appart, had to grab a pair of pliers to take it apart
An inaccuracy that i saw pointed out for Luke Skywalker was that in the movie his gloves are white and they always make his hands black as a minifig.
Star Wars fans are willing to spend WAY more than any other fandom when it come to goodies, and "they" know it.
we're gonna die anyways, why not have a little joy in our lives
@@goldpotato1885 That's ok to have fun while it last, my point was that companies are exploiting that and Star Wars fans are pretty much milked. It could be 200$ less.
@@satellachannel6423 I really hate how so many fans are so consumerist. Like I love Star Wars and you don't need to buy toys or other produces to be a fan, just love the media itself and let that carry you. Being a fan shouldn't be an exercise in capitalism.
@@Obi-Wan_Kenobi Wise words, worthy of recognition in the jedi archives.

Jang I’d love if you did a review/comparison on as many of the previous AT-AT’s that you own. Especially the motorized one!
26:28 Awww... look at the mamma AT-AT and her little baby AT-AT.
This review is gold. JANG looks like a small child compared to the build that is higher than him. Looks so funny 😂
