I remember when I first listened to smooth jazz guitar after a few years of playing guitar and bass... I realised that despite being a massive rock and metal fan, this was the style and sound I had been playing all along... been addicted ever since. Absolutely gorgeous!
For me, it was a gradual change. Lost some of my childhood guitar friends who loved hard rock and metal. Realized that after we are no more friends, I drifted to smooth jazz and unapologetically so. George Benson is such a boss!
Fellow metalheads here bro. Almost all of metalheads I know embrace jazz, soul, funk, classical and blues/folk. I can truly enjoy Wes Montgomery, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Joey Alexander or Coleman Hawkins just like I enjoy Slayer, Metallica, Immortal, Behemoth, Kreator or Pantera.
Man I have to Tell you I am A hard rock guns n roses Guy to the bone and now you make me want to play jazz I have to try it out it is so soothing I love it Thanks !
Lovely melodic sense! Too many "jazzers" just blather through ever-changing scales with all kindsa mental & physical knowhow and little lyrical feel. Sweet work. Divine guitar timbre, too.
I'm not Matt and I'm a year late but the answer is probably in his really light picking technique, amplifier very clean and turned up relatively loud, using the neck pickup and picking over the neck pickup. Beyond that it's the guitar and possibly chrome flat wound strings...
Very nice, I love your tone. Would you mind telling me what kind of strings you use if that's not imposing too much. I've been listening to your videos for years.I always enjoy listening.
HI, that looks like a Roland Gk-3, it is a pickup that sends information to midi Synthesizers for a great variety of sounds. You will play your guitar to control different sounds like: keyboards, winds, percussion, etc. here's the link. roland.com/V-Guitar/about.html
I ask because it sounds like at certain points he's playing a chromatic scale, maybe he's adding the blues note in between the 3 notes and playing all 4 in a row? Also, does the mode change depending on what chord/s are being played? Man jazz is really confusing for a beginner.
comienza con una escala phrigian en Am7 y va cambiando a la dorian Gm7 bueno esta improvizacion lo deriva de una escala mayor ionian en F empleando secuencias cromaticas bien
