- Something that is always running through your head when your walking to your stand in the dark is the boogie monster. It got a little too real down in south Texas. This was the rest of our trip we unfortunatly went home empty handed but we had an absolute blast!!

I guess that ranch is in a uncorrupt town. We called border patrol once and "someone" left a severed hog head at our gate, which is what the mob used to do to let people know to back off.

I'm sure you guys know this at this point, but having some thick-soled boots is a boon when you're out in the brush. Even having skateboarding safety equipment, like those hard plastic knee pads, can help deflect some of those nasty spines. Also carry a multi-tool, with pliers preferably.
The South Texas Thornscrub is no joke. There's cacti, like Christmas Cholla, that will stick you with spines and glochids. And Horse Crippler cacti, which blend into the terrain, can have 2 to 3 inch spines that can pierce through soles.

What’s your opinion on the Optifade Elevated II and the Optifade SupAlpine for hunting in Texas trying to make my mind up , I never hunt out of tree stands mostly spot and stalk or ground blinds/box stands

Always, always be carrying when you're in south or southwest Texas. My hubby's been "walked up" on several times over the years. Used to, they were just looking for food and moving on. There still are some that way today, but not all. It only took ONCE for us to learn that the tide has changed for some and it is continuing to deteriorate. Last group of 17 that hubby encountered.....3 were armed. Scary, scary stuff these days.

Look. I live only 10 miles from the border in an area, which has been known for processing large numbers of migrants. Most of these migrants are not armed. If they're entering the country through the brush, then that means they're desperate. And that brush is no joke. All the heat and elements will break the will of a man. So I doubthan unarmed migrant that's been trekking through the bush for weeks would want to pick a fight with two armed men.

Same thing happened to us at our ranch down I'm South Texas. We're about 60 miles from the boarder. Sitting in the tree stand right before nightfall and 3 illigals with bags stopped under the stand. Got down after they were off a Waze away and lost em.

I live in South Texas, too. In recent years, definitely after you first commented, numbers of migrants have gone down dramatically. And they started going down even before Operation Lonestar.
I've heard border patrol agents complain about "lack of action" down here. And many of those state guard troops have begun to have low morale since they were essentially called down here only to see nothing.

Why hate people, yes there are bad people all around the world, there can be bad Americans, Bad Hispanics or Latinos, Bad African Americans, Bad European people, but what’s the whole point of fighting, or trying to kill someone, when they are just trying to look for a better life. What If you were in that situation, obviously you’d want someone to help you, we shouldn’t hate other people for trying to get a better life, this land isn’t ours, we have to remember who made this planet, God did. South Texas is actually a very popular place to go birding due to its climate and geography.
You can find a lot of tropical birds down here. Green Jays, Great Kiskadees, and Plain Chachalacas.
Just be careful because, as the man mentioned in the video, many of these trails have a wide array of spiny plants. The cacti are the worst due to their glochids, and they blend into the brush.
