Beautiful cover of the prettiest song of the 60s. Reminds me of my high school girlfriend. After being together for the first two years of college, she fell in love with another boy. I was crushed. She wanted to date both of us. I said no, I loved her too much to know she was with another boy. I said goodbye and wished her a happy life with him. They were engaged after only 6 months of dating. Huge wedding planned only six months after the engagement. I moved on. Slowly. Week before their wedding, he calls it off. Leaves her for good. She is so devastated. I should be happy for Karma, but I realize how crushed she must be. Two years later (three years since we last spoke) she calls me when I'm back home in our small town for Christmas. She talks like we're old friends. I go to end the call. I tell her we can chat again next Christmas. As I say goodbye. She asks me to Midnight Mass. I'm speechless. I go silent. After asking several times if I'm still there, she says, "Reid, please go to Midnight Mass with me." I finally said yes. When I picked her up Christmas Eve, she was more beautiful than ever. Seeing her made me realize that I still had feelings for her. During Mass I realized that I had to end this that night. When I took her home, I stayed back off the porch. She stood by the door, chatting about something, waiting for me to open the door. Only time in my life I purposely did not open the door for a woman. It still shames me to this day. Eventually, she turned to see why I was not opening the door. When she saw me 10 feet away, she was crushed. She softly said goodnight and let herself in. I was so ashamed of my terrible behavior. I called her the next morning to apologize. She said she had it coming. I said there is no excuse for bad, spiteful behavior. We talked. And talked. For hours. Without thinking, I asked if she had plans for New Year's Eve. She said no and asked if we could do something together. We had a great time together. Two years later, we were married. Married for 42 years until I lost her to breast cancer in 2019. One fantastic son. A lifetime of wonderful memories. "Both Sides Now" brings back those great years of the 60s. Anne has once again wielded her magic wand and her considerable talent to give this classic a breath of fresh air. I love the relaxed tempo and style, with gentle bass, keyboard and electric guitar, and her signature, bell-like, polyphonic vocals. Combine all that with stunning video that makes you feel as if Anne is singing just for you, and you have a performance that transports you straight to your happy place, if only for just over four minutes. Brava, Anne!
