Both Sides Now is from our new album “Happy Like That”. We have loved this song since first hearing it, because it provides contemplation of the full spectrum of experiences we have with life, love, and relationships. (It also happens to be Stephen Nelson’s favorite song of all time.)
In life, people will experience the same things in such vastly different ways. Possibly the most beautiful reality of the human experience is that we gain so much perspective, patience, and wisdom with time and age. We can appreciate life for what it is; for all the ups and downs and in-betweens.

A lot of well-known artists have recorded this song, including (surprisingly) Frank Sinatra. I don't know who's version was the most famous but always preferred the Joni Mitchell version from her Clouds album.

Your songs from home are my favorites, from the first one where Dad came in from yard work to sing, to this one with fancy equipment around. Keeping it simple is your thing. Just keep singing together ❤️

And I too was thinking about the maturing voices of Savanna and Mat. AND, i also planned to comment on Mat coming in from working outside to sing with Savanna the first time, during covid, and how she was doing, I think, an online choir for school, instead of the in-school class. I loved this.

Another amazing preformance. Both Sides Now reminds me of an old family (& my first adult ) friend from Ireland . As I got older & moved out I'd meet her for lunch a few times a year & she was one of the first people I'd send a Christmas card to. She eventually moved back to Ireland & passed away many years ago.
and I thought only Judy Collins could do justice to this song. It’s been of my favorites since the 60’s. This duet is continuing in the beauty of simple song!❤❤❤❤

I've loved this song ever since my older sister sang a solo of it as a teenager back in the 60's. I was amazed that she was brave enough to sing in front of an audience. She wore a pretty pink dress, frosty pink lipstick and a "mod" haircut. Great job (as always) and thanks for the memory!

Chills and tears. In the last 7 years I've had 9 close family members pass away. I've been doing a lot of reminiscing, and seeing now how badly I screwed up my life.
Towards the end felt like standing up to applause ! A daughter sent me this link knowing Joni Mitchell was my era - its 26th Nov2023 and was watching the hostages exchange... Hope more will realise that choosing to justify war without looking at Both Sides of the divide perpetuates but only more grief to all sides ✌🌏🧩

Growing up, this iconic Joni Mitchell song was one of my favorites (I’m old!). I’d play it over and over again on my record player (it was a 45 rpm record-I told you I was old). You’ve made me fall in love with the song all over again. This arrangement is sublimely beautiful, and as always, suits your styles and your vocal talents. It’s always good to keep current and stay relatable to your audience with your music choices, but you continue to show how even the “oldies” can be contemporary and relatable, no matter what your age or musical preferences are. Another hit out of the ballpark-it was stunning!

Beautiful arrangement! I love how Savannah sings the melody and you expect her to keep doing so but she goes to the harmony and Mat takes over the melody. I have always loved this song and listened to it over and over on my Judy Collins cassette tape. (yes, you read correctly! I'm showing my age)

Savanna is so very young, and extremely talented - an up and coming artist if she wants to be. I had to Google Mat, though, wondering which musicals he has starred in, if he went to Julliard and so on. If I had spent the rest of my life guessing about his education and career, "realtor in Utah" would never have entered my mind. This was so beautiful, I need a few moments to push myself back to reality. I still remember how profoundly captivated I was the first time I heard this song. I feel the same way now...

At the risk of making myself unpopular, firstly I must congratulate you both on having superb voices and this recording is a masterpiece in many ways. But it seems perfective and almost mechanical in it’s striving for perfection and, as a consequence, loses the element that makes me cry when I hear Joni sing this. I accept and fully appreciate that, by having two people sing rather than just one, sometimes together in harmony, there is a need for vocal collaboration which increases the difficulty in expressing emotion but, on a song such as this, the emotion is a key factor. Singing phrases slightly off beat and pensive is sometimes what is required. You are both amazing singers and I love you for that. Carry on as you are but please consider my opinion, and it’s just that. You and others may disagree and I respect that. ❤
I agree with so many of the comments…everything you do is wonderful, but there’s something special about the songs done from home. I also feel like you have really given Joni Mitchell’s song more clarity for me, and a slightly different interpretation as a father-daughter duo. I hear the thoughts of a young person’s vs an adult’s view of life. Beautiful and moving!
