i fish for pike on loch awe scotland and always catch at least a 15lb pike going up to 25lb and the fight that scottish pike give is unbelievable, i play the fish for at least 5 to 10 mins and when unhooking the monsters they still thrash like crazy and become hard to handle and unhook, i get them unhooked in time but due to the delay i have been unable to get a good picture especially with my personal best at 27lb was gutted i didnt get a pic but the pikes welfare comes first though so any tips guys on how to stop the pike thrashing around so much, also the amount of traces i have found in the pike is disgusting people are just cutting the line i managed to get the traces out but a few were so deephooked there was no way i could get it out
Offcourse that isnt a bad thing! Just keep on practicing the chinning cause when youre doing it more often youll see that you become less scared! And as they allways say: practice makes perfect!
doesn't matter how careful you are removing the hook if you keep him out of the water too long. I've the best luck removing hooks with the fish still in the water. of course sometimes its hooked in a way you cant but at least 80% in my experience can be unhooked without being lifted. Vertical lifting kills them
It always surprises me how much people in UK and the majority of Europe treat these fish like they are some kind of delicacy. Come over to the US where they are a nuisance they dont even let them in the boat if the hook up with one. Even with carp. They are destroying our lakes and rivers over here, and in the UK they treat them like kings lol.
Thanks for posting, good tips👍🎣
Good tips Mick!

Understand making a video but would sure like to see the fish put back into the water faster.
