Really appreciate your videos bro! I’ve learned a much easier way to throw my net and this is a bonus because I was definitely one of those guys rushing that line back in. Now I’m looking forward to yielding more bait, which means less throws and more time fishing 🙌🏽
Great emphasis on how to close! Everyone mastering how to open, but this is equally important! Thanks Captain Mike, this is also the only method I use now to open the net as well!!!
Thank you for sharing you expertise and techniques. I was able to catch some mullet and caught my pb red fish yesterday using live mullet. It hit like a tank and almost took my rod off the pier. Beautiful slot possibly over slot red, I was so excited that I forgot to measure it, but took a picture of it. Would love to send you a picture of it.

Great Video,,,I love cast netting, it's very enjoyable and I always have bait. Anybody new to cast netting, keep trying you'll get better in time. Be very careful where you throw your net because if you get hung up,,,you'll have to go swimming to keep from breaking your net. I go swimming alot, LOL
Good advice. Know the bottom if you can. I do a lot of freediving/spearfishing and pull up discarded nets all the time. Usually hung up on structure or oysters around jetties and bridges. Most are cheapo small nets, which indicates the caster was a newbie. I've also gone swimming to retrieve my own nets more times than I like to admit!!
Excellent advice for beginners. I was lucky to born into a net throwing family and sometime s take for granted lessons learned over the years. Do you ever throw a bag net instead of a Braille net?
Awesome video. I've been throwing pancakes since your last net instructional. Only thing with this one is if you have a cheap net like I do and it's slow sinking, you need to pull it quickly to get mullet or they'll swim out especially in deeper water. Gotta close the bag as quickly as you can with mine or they're all gone!
Thanks for the videos. I just got a cast net and tried your method of throwing for the first time today and was throwing it well. Good info on closing it too.
I started small with just a 3ft net but your videos helped me catch 15 mullet the on only my second cast out at a Haulover Point mullet run...that's good coaching!
Love ur method at 245 Seems if get proficient could throw all sort of angles depending on the obsticles. I do pilates and if I learn to throw a 10ft cast net, how can I get a job as a deck hand on a fishing charter boat? Learn how to tie fishing rigs? My knowledge of fishing tackle and fish and navigation in my area next to nothing. Personal hobby atm is catch mullet and prawns for food if can find a tinny in my budget. Also unemployed in the new year but I did predelivery at cobalt Bennington pursuit for a month for the summer rush (Xmas southern hemisphere, covid [Govid] means cashed up people want boats.)
Yes, you want to pull it in faster, but still make those jerks to close the net. And make sure you have an angle on the net, rather than pulling straight up.
Thank you very much Captain Mike. Always instructive your videos and a lot of help for those of us who started. Please explain to me if it makes a difference 8 Ft 3/8 or 8Ft 1 / 4.Thanks.
Capt Mike, thanks for your great videos. Sadly my work schedule keeps me from fishing as much as ID like but I am careful to try to take good care of my gear. Any tips for taking care of my cast net other than rinsing and drying? I had a net completely disintegrate on me. Yikes! Thanks again.

Thanks for another great vid captain Mike, Im planning on going down the east coast this coming weekend starting from Sebastian inlet toward your area looking for mullet pods(pending the weather, hoping for some easterly winds). Im set up on a Diawa BG 6500 on a 8ft 15-30lb medium action Star Rod with 500 yds of 50 lb braid looking for Tarpon/Snook/Jacks. Have you seen mullet pods slow down in your area like ive been hearing or is it just a matter of going the distance to find them?
dont know if you guys gives a shit but if you guys are bored like me atm then you can watch all of the latest movies on InstaFlixxer. Have been binge watching with my brother for the last few days =)
No boat yet. Catch and release bait fishing could be my new hobby. I can throw a lead line in mouth method with my 10ft cast net, I'd rather not risk my teeth.. . I'm in Coomera 4209 surrounded by water near the coast if want to check it out Google maps. I have no idea where good spots are.
What do you do if you're catching ballyhoo in 60 feet of water? What would be your method of closing it then? Bro also? Regarding the throwing of the net. I don't get a pancake at all, more like a half bitten empanada. Then when I bring it up it's like a plain empanada. Nothing inside of it
Cant get my head around how these nrts work. Once the net has sunk and being pulled out of the water... I imagine it like a sack with no bottom so why do the fish not just fall out the bottom of the net?
Not me. I know you guys like this overrated patty or pancake method but I use my special “taco” method. I don’t think anyone can copy me. When I really get warmed up I break out my secret “crumpled tin foil” technique! 😂
McCutcheon Services LLC - try relaxing your cast. Most people "over cast" or try too hard to throw the net, and cause kidney shapes or figure-eights. With small nets especially, just relax and let momentum do the work. Put a ball or some target in your yard, just a few feet in front of you. Move it further and further away once you get the technique.

Capt Mike....does the closing method change if you're working in deeper water and net is not hitting bottom (ie. mullet off beach in deeper water)?
Yes, you want to pull it in faster, but still make those jerks to close the net. And make sure you have an angle on the net, rather than pulling straight up.
Hi.I like your video very much. It's really great. I'll keep an eye on your channel. I am your fan and I will support you.
what about woods and bigstones underwater? if your castnet stuck on it , it only get damage haha, you half to swim for it before you pull it.
Dope video helped me improve my throw saw you guys today ,ended up catching some Spanish mackerel
