  • Do you need cycling shoes to ride fixed gear bikes?
    I have purchased a pair of Adidas Velosambas. They are probably the most famous (or infamous?) cycling shoes in the fixed gear community. Nice, casual design and stiff but walkable soles, plus the option to use them with SPD pedals.
    Is this a meaningful upgrade, or have I wasted my money?

      only if you have narrow feet you could size up but the length is not the problem

    I didn't think I'd ever be interested in cycling shoes but got some of these for the same reasons as you. Decided to also try clipping in so got some Shimano SPD pedals which are nornal on the other side knowing i could just use the normal side if didnt like it but gotta say I'd highly recommend takijg the next step with SPDs to go with the Adidas. As you said Jack of all trades master of none maybe but its great having a much more positive and efficient pedal connection with the practiclcality and style of normal trainers. Cheers for the vid!

      Yo! That's great to hear that you like the shoes and SPD! And thank you for the recommendation about going SPD! I'm gonna tell you a little secret... (I started riding mine with spd last week O_O and yes I am currently making a video about that too :D)

      @@addvurtbikes Yeah I thought it might be quite awkward and was doubtful of the supposed gains but I feel like you're much more comfortable actually and at one with the bike. I'll keep an eye out for your thoughts on the new vid!

      does it have clanging sound when walking with cleats?

    • @andyshannahan
      @andyshannahan 6 месяцев назад

      @@lindxrc9725 no the cleats are quite recessed into the shoe. They're actually really comfy to wear off the bike and yeah look great as well.

    Toes asleep is usually a fit issue!

      Do you mean a fit issue for the whole bike, or for shoes/straps specifically? I would love to work it out :)

      they have a pointy and shallow toe box even with the right size there is not much place to wiggle your toes

      @jasper5945 3 месяца назад +1

      yeah, definitely a toebox thing, you can definitely see it 3:21 where your pinky is bulging

    why aren't you using the Velosamba's with a pair of SPD?

    • @addvurtbikes
      @addvurtbikes  Год назад

      I have never tested spd yet, but I might in the future, especially if I can't fix the toe numbness thing :)

    • @piworower

      because the back plates to mount the cleat cant be replaced and if you strip it you are kinda screwed.

    • @addvurtbikes
      @addvurtbikes  Год назад

      @@piworower do you strip a lot of plates? I guess if that happens you still have the flat soles.

      @@addvurtbikes ive never stripped the back plated from shimano. and i knew they were not replaceable in the sambas so i didnt torque them too hard. happened to a friend of mine too.

    but still can you skid on it while using clips?

    • @addvurtbikes
      @addvurtbikes  8 месяцев назад

      Yes, you can skid with spd also. But there are different pedals and cleats that might be more or less good for it.
