That looks quite cool, I love iPhone cages a lot, and if this one had at least one tripod thread, I would get it immediately, only one on the bottom! I’m sticking with my SmallRig cage for now! Great video, cheers!
Michael, I always really enjoy your videos, thank you. In my humble opinion, I would say that by the time you built this out, you might as well have a mirror camera. The other thing I would point out is that many of us lucky enough to upgrade iPhone regularly it is not worthwhile as these rarely fit the next iPhone.
I read quite sime remarks here: Buy a photocamera. The point is that some just don’t want to do that. I would love to have also a Sigma fp camera, but it all costs just to much money. As simple as that But YMMV.
Well I just ordered the Sandmarc. But this Tilta is in another league. Even after looking at the formidable Beastgrip, the Tilta appears to have a finess to it and looks to be well thought out in its design. I don’t think you specified, but I assume all the major parts including cage are aluminum (not plastic)?
Have you tried attaching any external lens to it? I've seen on the Tilta website that the Kronos comes with a 17mm adapter, but I suspect the fan may get in the way of a big lens like a Beastgrip tele.
First Impressions? In no particular order. Just of the cuff. 1. Seems like closed system. Non-Kronos-accessoires may hard to attach, or even impossible 2. IPhone 15 specific construction obstruct updateing to iPhone 16 or potentionally later models. External sizing differences makes it impossible if you feel the need to update from iPhone 15 to 16 and beyond. I use a SmallRig cage that accepts many sizes, older design that still works beautifully in the iPhone sizing department 3. Excellent idea: Ball-handle. Zacuto has a similar already design quite some time in their product line. I made it myself. Wooden ball, threaded rod piece, NATOrail and NATO miniclamp. Some drilling and sawing rod to size. Cost? Peanuts. 4. Good idea: Focusing knob built in handle. But how’s that functioning in practice? 5. Ergonomics of handle? Compare to some wooden handles from Tilta, SmallRig, etc. Much more comfy to hold. Personally I use the rotatable handle from SmallRig. No wood, but extremely flexible. 6. Sorry. Beauty is in the eye if the beholder. I know. This arrogant beholder thinks it looks horrible. Overengineered. Please make a black model. The form and the choice of color makes it more like prop from Star Wars movie. 7. Looking forward to review movie by Michael. Thank you very much in advance for any follow-up.
Doesn’t look like it offers much screen / lens protection. Is there a built in screen protector and lens over or is it just a skeleton around the phone ?
If you didn’t get the iPhone 16 would u be happy to have the iPhone 15 pro forever or is it missing something that would be remedied in the 16 pro 😅I’m trying to decide if I can just get the 15 from my. 12 pro max 🎉😮
Very nice; but too bulky; please, please, someone: just give us a handle with a built ssd and a port to connect, at the same time, a external mic.I have a bunch of systems like this one from Tilta - beastgrip, freewell, etc. - and I end up to leave them all at home, because it gets to bulky and not comfortable at all. I’ve learned my lesson and that why I gonna pass on this one. My next iphone will have a 1 tb memory and I just put on it a JJC magnet accessory that allows me to place a VND. Much simpler and portable. For sound, I’ll connect the DJI mic by Bluetooth
I hear you on the bulky thing when the iPhone is all rigged up. At that point, you might as well get a dedicated camera. I do understand that for some people, the phone is all they have and buying a rig makes more sense, financially speaking. Neewer sent me their cage Gen 2 for review, and I enjoyed it. But, I did have a problem with light leaks while using a 67mm VND filter recording my vlogs.
When you test, can you put an SSD into the clamp mount and see if there's a way to record to the SSD while using it? I was kind of hoping it would have an NVLE 3.2 slot
The handles camera controls are actually bluetooth, the USB cable just provides power to the built in rails for accessories. You can snake a slim usb cable in there for a SSD. It's a bit of a miss that the USB-c port on the top of the handle doesn't provide data pass-through.
Is there any point in this rigging process by which the returns on shooting with an iPhone (cost, ergonomics/form factor, time to build, shooting and post workflow) start to diminish and it starts making more sense to just shoot with a dedicated camera body?
The Khronos setup cost about $500, everyone needs a phone even not for filming so you couldn’t really factor in the phone as cost, now tell me which camera set up cost only $500 and does a better job.
@@MarcSchreiberRealtor That seems to be my beef with this system. The iPhone 15 models fits very well but newer models might differ slichtly in size. So if one wants to buy a newer iPhne you also need to buy a new cage. My SmallRig 2791B accepts more models. Old design by now, but still works.
At least currently this system does not have any lens mounting options. Only meant to be used with built in lenses and add on filters if needed. And the hub has a couple 1/4 20” mounts on the bottom you can use. Sorry didn’t explain that best.
This doesn't make any sense. If you are willing to carry so much stuff with you and build your phone to this monster you can easily just pick and S9 or FX30/FX3, ZV etc.. It will be better quality, quicker, and nicer to use!
S9, FX30, FX3, ZV, remind me which one of these can make calls, watch videos, send message and listen to music? These things are there to help with the camera everyone already owned. That’s the whole point.
Ya it does make you wonder. However, rigging even part of it out to shoot Pro Res 4K 60 frames gives some of the best video you have ever laid eyes on from a consumer level. So at least bringing the cage with a ssd (Lexar SL 500/700) gives you that option and is much less $$ and bag space than a full DSLR/mirrorless/full frame. It has its space in the market and this space appears to be growing now that people have discovered what this ‘cell phone’ can actually do. The iPhone 15/16 could me marketed as camera equipment first due to how good it is. Most people just buy these phones and the camera is an afterthought, there to shoot the new baby or something. Not realizing how powerful and advanced the camera they have is. Those that have realized this now are buying these accessories instead of an expensive mirrorless camera altogether. The iPhone isn’t just a jack of all trades, it’s phone, computer and high end camera in one body. Worthwhile to take advantage of all that it offers. Just my small opinion.
@@WINDSHEAR-STUDIO Yeah it’s not just LOG and ProRes either, correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure the main sensors physically get a little larger each year
Ah.. the hole phone filmaking disapears when putting all these things, the phone because so much bulky and then its just better to use a mirroless camera..
I'm sure this was interesting, but I had to stop watching because your background music was like hearing someone "clicking" their mouth while chewing! Did my head in so had to stop watching!

Seems like a very nicely thought out cage / ecosystem. The only problem I have with this is the filtration system seems to be proprietary.

Please review the new iRe5 1TB microSD cases! They're so minimal for everyday filming in ProRes without having to rig an SSD to it 🙌
Darn....was hoping that fan was actually an SSD. Nice system.....to much of a rig though.
I just want an unobtrusive SSD and Battery handle.
Figuring out a minimal way to get a small SSD attached without annoying cables. It’s in the works
I had really been hoping the one card wallet was actually an SSD. SHOULD HAVE BEEN!
Can we get a video update with thoughts and experiences?
finally the khronos,
would like to know how well it works with an SSD, USBC mic and power
I needed this video. I pray your health gets better sir, i go to film school thank you for this video sir have a great rest of your day sir.

It looks like the hubs base is potentially a sideways ARCA plate.
It seems there is no variable ND which is a shame. The Hub though is interesting and I wonder if it could be made to fit another cage?
I just want a super small SSD and VND that can be quickly put on and taken off. When I want a rig, I’ll bring my Cine camera.
I will be building out a minimal SSD and ND setup soon 👍🏼

The iPhone overheats only in two cases: if you record video on the built-in memory and if you watch video recorded on the internal memory.
Any chance it would work with the Beastgrip dof adapter? I’m guessing not because the adapter locks into the Beastgrip cages, but perchance to dream 🧐
My humble request for you to test the Skyglass VFX App and Clean HDMI Output. Please
Yup! Been in the works on a video for that app for a long time now! Gotta finish it 😅

no longer fits in my pocket😂I prefer the quip design.
can't wait for you to test that system

Any chance that mini light fights to other cases or have any screw mechanism somthing to use alone on iphone ?
Dark video … you should consider getting a light box
Thank you for the build... very helpful!
Nice system, though the advantage of iPhone is less is better. Fit in your pocket, all ways with you, etc. Maybe it’ll sell.
Case aside, i really, I mean really loved your previous set, that used to be the best thing in yours videos, also the video itself.
Me too, I’ll miss it. This is a smaller space so I’ll have to get creative with the best angles to film!
No nvme enclosure. Skip it
What programs are you using with the handle? I am having issues with the focus ring on mine. just wondering what apps everyone's using.
Isn't the grip supposed to charge? For some reason it works for zooming and function button but doesn't charge the phone... You have this problem too?
Hah funny I couldn’t get zoom or focus to work but it charges. Press and hold function button to charge I think.
Can u use beast grip lenses on it
When you test, can you put an SSD into the clamp mount and see if there's a way to record to the SSD while using it? I was kind of hoping it would have an NVLE 3.2 slot
Of course you can record to an SSD. You just plug into one of the data supported usb c ports on the HUB

Interesting! ... Is it specific to the 15 pro / pro max or will it work with the "16pm" coming in the fall?
It would be silly of them not to make a 16 pro version once that is announced. But of course for the time being it is only 15 pro supported.
@@initialfocus hi, no what I meant is the cage adjustable to fit what will be a slightly different size 16 body or do “we” have to buy another cage?

Will it fit iPhone 16 Pro Max?
That phone doesn’t exist yet lol of course I am guessing they will make a case version for the 16 and all the accessories should work.
we cant use Leans on this
