Not in the same way that the iPhone 15 pro with USB C connector can. But you can use the lightning to SD card reader to move photos/videos from the photos app to the card
Using memory cards with Apple Log is really a bad solution. Black Magic will keep warning you about frames dropping and will stop recording. Unless using a V90 memory cards which are costly than SSDs ! I tried a lot within a real production, once you decide to go with multiple ports, you have to go with a complete solution: Hub + SSD + Mic + Power Bank to make sure that all those devices have the required power to work reliably.

probably not with the right angle adapter, you'd have to have some sort of cable and attach the hub to the power bank instead. That said, iPhones trying to record and do inductive charging at the same time overheat quite quickly so I don't think it would be desirable.

Wondering if its just a problem with a wireless charger?
Cool video, but I'll just keep using my DJI Pocket 3 since you get everything in one small package, including internal connection for 2 DJI Mic 2's without the transmitter. I will use my iPhone 15 Pro Max for handheld shooting with little to no accessories since it's a pain in the ass to mount anything without a cage and a bunch of shit dangling and sticking out from it. It's becoming a real question for me if adding additional external storage using SD cards or Type B CF cards is economical vs just getting larger RAM memory on the iPhone when purchased. The only "fly in the ointment" so to speak is that faster external storage is required for SOME resolutions and frame rate combos on the Blackmagic Cam IOS app. My iPhone 15 pro has about 412GB currently free which can store about 85 minutes worth of Apple ProRes 4K 422 HQ at 24fps (not log) - doable but not ideal
I am now thinking about a "C356 Type-C MicroSD Card Reader with USB 3.0 Super Speed Technology, Supports MicroSDXC, MicroSDHC, and MicroSD for Window, Mac OS X and Andriod (Midnight Grey) " combined with "SanDisk 1TB Extreme microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card with Adapter - Up to 190MB/s, C10, U3, V30, 4K, 5K, A2, Micro SD Card- SDSQXAV-1T00-GN6MA, Gold/Red" which together is about $115 - any comments?
This is a big problem I have as well that I can't figure out how to solve. Like you can easily run a power to the hub, or use inductive charging but with my 15 Pro Max it makes so much heat while charging and recording at the same time that I get an error within 10min or so telling me the phone is overheating and recording stops until it cools down. My strat has been to charge in between clips, but that can be really disruptive.
I feel your pain man, I had a full day shoot planned with the iPhone 15 Pro and it was my first proper shoot with it (Music Video). Basically what I soon realised is that I was going to run out of charge very fast due to the SSD getting power from the phone. So I had to think quick and went full Mcgiver, strapped a 40gbps adapter that had the capabilities to draw charge and also plug in the SSD, I ran a long USB-A to USB-C from a slim V-lock that was in my pocket which powered it all day no overheating, it wasnt perfect but it got the job done lol. I used the same method on another shoot and I am yet to figure out a better option :| @@ryancooper3629
2:45 I have been looking at the Anker hub it is only rated at 5gbps, so you will get drop outs , have you tested a 40gbps /thunder 4 hub? How did it go
This port isn't fast enough to record ProRes to SD card. The speed of the port is only 104 mb/s so you'll end up dropping a lot of frames. The speed of the SD card doesn't matter if the port can't handle to speed to begin with. You'll need to use the USB-C port which says it has a speed of 5 gb/s.
Just to clarify about 7:17 - why would you want to connect the Rode Wireless PRO receiver via a USB C cable to the Anker USB hub? Is the audio in that situation still being stored locally on the Rode Wireless PRO? Is audio then also being recorded to the SD card in the Anker hub?
In the Rode Central app you can configure your Wireless PRO to record internally while outputting an audio signal. As for recording onto the SD card, as long as your footage is recording onto the SD card, your audio will record onto that clip. Be sure to check your settings in your recording app of choice (FilmicPro, BMCam, etc.) that your audio source is your Wireless PRO
@_ Thank you very much for the detailed reply! So am I to assume that the reason he had a USB C cable going from the Rode Wireless Pro receiver to the Anker Hub was so that the Rode audio would be both stored on the Rode itself AND also on the SD card?
Yup! Having the audio stored on the Rode AND on the clip gives a good backup, so if something happened with the audio file on the Rode, it’s still recorded onto the clip (and vice versa). The more backups the better :)
I don't understand why we buy so many things to attach to our phones that are so big and no more compact than a professional camera. I mean, if I was that passionate about photography and videography, I would invest in the camera, not the accessories.
Everyone’s shooting style and workflow is different. I used to be on your side of thinking. But especially with the latest Apple LOG on iPhone 15 pro it’s a truly capable camera. One perspective you may want to consider is what other camera can you shoot, edit and post all on one device. For efficiencies sake it is far superior than dedicated cameras 🤷🏻♂️
As someone who has done photo and video work with a professional camera - I still use my phone for a number of reasons: -the phone is going to be on me anyway, so really Im just packing any accessories I need. my phone + cage + handle is still lighter/more flexible than my main camera. -if I am recording in a situation where I need to be discreet, there are times people are more accepting of phone recording than a big mirrorless camera, even if I have a small cage attached to the phone. Additionally some venues wont even let me bring the camera in at all. -some companies actually desire the "phone" look for things like social media. Different tools for different things. Additionally, experimentation is fun. Sometimes it's nice just to see how far you can take something.
I’m a director and prefer to work with a capable DP. But labor plus gear is expensive. So in between bigger shoots I like to make small projects, but don’t want to invest time and money into a $2500+ camera that I still have to learn to use when I can use the thing I already have in my pocket and spend a few hundred bucks on accessories.
Man, I want to buy the iPhone filmmaking guide, but I'm stuck in a hell loop of resetting my password/error when resetting password. Super disappointing.
Came across your video while looking to see what all the hype about iphones is. I find it laughable that android phones have had a built in SD slot forever and now iphone users are having to use an external SD card and making it sound like progress.
Dare I say that in the iPhone 16 they need to add an internal recessed microSD card slot to eliminate all these janky "minimalist" rigs for storage. All the other parts are well constructed, but there is no escaping the Jerry-rigged USB storage solution. None of them are better than if Apple simply put in a tiny card slot.
@@initialfocus That mostly worked for Red when there was less competition. I think Apple's more likely to make iPhones with larger internal memory options before they would go to a proprietary media. It's hard to say, but I think if they went with a proprietary media they would find it an unprofitable venture as long as USB-C remains an option, and I doubt they will step backwards on that front.

Can the dji mic 2 transmitter via bluetooth work.....on samsung s23 ultra with Blackmagic camera
Oooh that's slick
works on iphone 15?
Is the Speed of the anker card reader enough to handle proRes Log 4 k 60 frames footage?
3:33 where can I get this nato rail?
Use Velcro 3M stickers instead of double sided tape
why don't get a pro camera for half of the price instead? I don't understand... please explain.
How do you power it for a full day shoot?
I used the same method on another shoot and I am yet to figure out a better option :|

where is that right angle nato rail from? it’s not in the links
I think it comes with the side handle?
@@initialfocus wow thank you i was trying so hard to find it! im surprised it isn’t being sold stand alone
This is nice
2:45 I have been looking at the Anker hub it is only rated at 5gbps, so you will get drop outs , have you tested a 40gbps /thunder 4 hub? How did it go
are you sure that you can record unlimited time in sd card prores HQ ? I dont think its fast enough...
V90 should work
This port isn't fast enough to record ProRes to SD card. The speed of the port is only 104 mb/s so you'll end up dropping a lot of frames. The speed of the SD card doesn't matter if the port can't handle to speed to begin with. You'll need to use the USB-C port which says it has a speed of 5 gb/s.
Very useful video man
0.32 Blackmagic cam app was launched.
Anyone use Dji Mic 2 with Iphone 15 pro max Brandon Li cage?
Just need to be able to fit the phone in with a case on it.
Use the Beastgrip pro then. It’s universal and can fit any phone. As long as the case doesn’t crazy cover the camera bumps.
I cant find that nato L rail to save my life.. anyone have a link for it?
This Hub doesn´t work with dji Mic oder i make one thing false
@_ Thanks so much again!
Turn the music bed down!
the Anker drains the battery completely in no time and overheats, even without a single shot…
I’ve filmed for 2+ hours and only used like 40% of the battery plenty of times? Not sure how this hub would drain the battery quickly
As someone who has done photo and video work with a professional camera - I still use my phone for a number of reasons:
-the phone is going to be on me anyway, so really Im just packing any accessories I need. my phone + cage + handle is still lighter/more flexible than my main camera.
Hey you’re having trouble with the login on my website?
@@initialfocus yup. I tried resetting the password and I get an error message when I enter a new password.
@paulengle5784 can you email me your email so I can look up the account and try to help? michael@initialfocusmedia.com
I love that you put your wife's images as background. You're like the next MarkusPix.
Came across your video while looking to see what all the hype about iphones is. I find it laughable that android phones have had a built in SD slot forever and now iphone users are having to use an external SD card and making it sound like progress.
Hope you don’t get a call when you’re using that
Dare I say that in the iPhone 16 they need to add an internal recessed microSD card slot to eliminate all these janky "minimalist" rigs for storage. All the other parts are well constructed, but there is no escaping the Jerry-rigged USB storage solution. None of them are better than if Apple simply put in a tiny card slot.
Knowing Apple though they’d make some sort of proprietary micro SSD card thing like a RED minimag that costs $1,000 😅
There's a voice coming from behind you....
what'is the noise ding ding ding... i can't listen to you...
Battery battery battery 🙄
It is better to use a real camera than all these mess
Is there a way to have a magsafe power supply like a bank on there?
probably not with the right angle adapter, you'd have to have some sort of cable and attach the hub to the power bank instead.
That said, iPhones trying to record and do inductive charging at the same time overheat quite quickly so I don't think it would be desirable.
