This reminds me of when I was in high school, and I would put my pencil in my hair while I was doing homework, and then forget that it was in my hair, so I couldn't do my homework because I couldn't find my pencil.

    • @silvousplaits
      @silvousplaits  8 лет назад +70

Most of the fancy hairstyles you see on Instagram and such just aren't intended for everyday wear, honestly. You need a lot of products to keep it together, and good luck to you if there's even a little wind. They're better suited for photoshoots/short wear/formal events where all the products are worth it.

I bought pins, combs, and hair sticks because I’m sick of ponytails. Something not shown is how to part and twist or braid front of hair before putting into a bun. I have flyaways, and rather than using product, I part my hair to the side, and take hair that is where bangs would be, and twist it, pin it in the back, then make my bun. It makes hair look whimsical. Also, because my hair is long, I can twist most hair going around a couple times but then stop, use pin to secure decorative pin off to one side, and let about six inches of hair cascade untucked on the other side. I then scrunch hair into messy curls, I do that in combination with a side part with a twisted front section. No one I know uses hair sticks, combs, or pins. I went online and bought fancy ones, and get many compliments on my hair! Thank you for this video, I just learned a new way to do a bun.

The first bun has some history! In Joseon dynasty of Korea (1300s~1800s), hair was all the rage. Different hairstyles expressed what social class you were and other things like marriage. For the first bun, it looks a lot like jjokjin meori. This hairstyle indicated you are married. They would braid the hair, which due to tradition would be long, bring the tail to the begginning of the braid, tie it with a ribbon, then have the hair go over the tie (like in the video if the video had a tie), then put a binyeo which is a stick that acts as a pin. Binyeo can be made out of wood or stone for poor people, even slaves, and higher class people can have jade, gold, and others with designs and decorations. The upper class and royals wore jam, which is like binyeo, but made out of the best materials and it had different names based on the design: yongjam for dragon and bongjam for pheonix.

This video helped me expand on the range of hairstyles I do, a tip if there's anyone who wants to try these hairstyles but don't have a hairstick or don't want to buy one jus to find out they're not into it, although they may have some durability issues, a chopstick can work well as a replacement for an actual hairstick

I experimented a bit and I think I found a variation for shorter Hair on the first Bun. Start of like in the Video. Before you put the "loop of hair" around the Bais of the Hair insert instead a Hairneedle through it. Then with the Hairneedle push the loop down and pierce through the middle of the Hair. Then also pin through the loop on the other sides.
The Thing is because you use the Hairneedle instead of your fingers to move the Loop it is easier to keep control of the shorter hair, so it's not falling out.
My Hair is like 5cm other my shoulders and ar cut shorter in front. With this Variation it did work just fine🙂. Just keep in Mind it will Look a little bit different but it will stay in place good!

These are really only good for super-long, medium to fine hair. They're great for that kind of hair, but prey much impossible if your hair is really thick or a bit too short. Hairsticks are still doable! Just not these specific styles. Try a French twist, it requires a much smaller length:thickness ratio.

Nah you can make it work. I thought my hair was too thin and not quite long enough (comes to bottom of my shoulder blades) or it was too slick. It just takes a little bit of practice. Also try two sticks. To get the first one I learned I had to wrap my hair around my fingers not my palm and I have to use two hair sticks. I sat there for about 15 to 30 minutes just redoing it until I figured it out.

The worst hair decision I made was cutting my hair into a bob when I was 8 because it didn't suit me at all. 10 years later it's almost down to my but because about half a year ago I cut about 2 inches off since it had been a while since I had a trim.

I can relate. I got bored of quarantine and cut my long hair into a curly bob hairstyle. No regrets tho.

@@human-tk2fo I cut my hair again this quarantine after growing it out long (to my chest). I guess the long hair life isn't just for me 😂

My hair isn't quite long enough in its natural state (it's relatively curly) for the last one but I tried anyway and my hair just makes it through the knot but it staying in place really well and looks nice :) glad I found this

Aw I found your little "vlog" sections showing how long the buns lasted really cute! Thanks for such a helpful tutorial, maybe I'll give some old hairsticks a try again! I used to get so frustrated that my hair would fall out due to its length and weight.

I cut 13 inches off my hair in '19 (cut it to the top of my shoulder blades) & decided to start doing fun things like this with my hair lol fun things that would be easier with long hair! This video helped with doing fancier stick twists, though, than what I was already doing 😀👍 I have fine hair, so it's nice to know it stays!

I've been doing a simple twist bun with my hairstick for years but your figure 8 one looks so much better and it doesn't stick out so far! i just wish I could do the last one with the knot and the hair hanging down but my hair is too thick and course to go into the knot. Great video!

Did a trial run of the nautilus bun. It held through hours of school, errands, and a small workout. Had to modify how it's done to fit my thick hair though. Other than that 10/10 best bun tutorial ever.

Oh my goodness where was this my whole life??? My hair is quite long.. So, I have to use a dozen hair ties, that I always end up losing, just to put it in a bun- But by doing these, it’s so much easier and stable haha! I’m so grateful for this video. xD

I've been working on the first bun for months. Sometimes it slides down after a couple hours; other times I get five or more hours out of it (by then I'm tired of it and take it down). Today's lasted several hours, including through a change of shirt and a shower. I don't have a hair stick, but I do have two chopsticks that do the job. Thanks!

I thought I'd never be able to do one of these buns properly (because I have medium length hair), but I managed to do the second bun and it looks really cute! Thank you so much for the video :)
