- Zargothrax, Dark Emperor of Dundee must be stopped. After the Hootsman destroyed Earth creating a portal through space, Angus McFife XIII seized on the opportunity through the dimensional rift and vowed to defeat the sorcerer. This is where the story of Gloryhammer left off, and how have I not nerded out about this yet?! This is exactly the kind of content I love!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Gloryhammer for the first time, performing "Gloryhammer” live at Wacken 2019.

I came for Glory Hammer and stayed because Elizabeth's nerdiness is actually adorable
Lol nice name
Watch the Blind Guardian one. She has horns.
Also watch the Nanowar of Steel "Valhalleluja" reaction. It's kind of a "prequal" to this one and Elizabeth is a full on Princess of Dorkness here.
Same here :-)
Right?! I'm so excited for her to learn why there were so many unicorns in the audience, haha!
I went to an amon amarth concert and the whole crowed sat on the ground and was rowing a viking warship into battle while the singer was thor fighting off a dragon on stage... it was glorious
That's sounds like an awesome concert.
Whe Johan tells you to row..you row
Amon Amarth? That’s a pure Alestorm gimmick (along with Duckie)
Amon Amarth moshpits were so awesome. Can't wait to get back to one after the pandemic
We had a row pit at the one Alestorm concert I went to as well. Alestorm & Gloryhammer. Absolutely a freaking blast!
Fun Fact: According to the German Wikipedia page, the lead singer Thomas Winkler works as a notary.
Can you imagine going to a notary for boring legal stuff and then epic Angus McFife sits there in suits and tie?
Until bands make it big enough to do full time, most members are anything from engineers to janitors to notaries to restaurant servers. That’s still awesome
Boring day jobs and then bam Unicorns and goblin smashers

Not only according to Wikipedia 😉

Sami Hinkka from Ensiferum is a Kindergarten teacher.
2:41 nice thing about being a bassist in a power metal band is you can keep your beer hand free during the verse when you're just chugging the E string
My first introduction to Gloryhammer was "The Unicorn Invasion of Dundee"
I don't want to know the person that sees that song title and goes "nah, I'll give that a miss"
Or apocalypse 1992
That was my start as well. My reaction to the title was "What?" My reaction after the song was over was "What?", but with a big grin.
Just listen to it, is what I would tell those persons
Same. My guitar teacher recommended that specific song to me.
I first encountered them by have the video of the entire album "Legends From Beyond the Galactic Terrorvortex" show up in my recommendeds, and I simply could not pass up such a name.

@@TheCharismaticVoice The man knows your face like the back of his hand. Impressive, considering the constantly shifting terrain. Also, is it just me or does is it look like Mr. Mcfife is about to bring down his laser-powered goblin smasher onto your poor hand? Maybe there's just a laser-powered goblin in the crowd.
"For all that is real"... uhmmm, I see that these guys are also fans of my favorite band!
@The Charimatic Voice You must react to „Majestica - Above the Sky“ The singer has hights like So Hyung 😀

I was thinking the exact same thing when she was reading the song's introduction! It would be beyond awesome, but I hope it never happens, if only because there are only so many hours in a day, and I have stuff to do!
I'd love to hear Elizabeth sing an especially nerdy Filk song...
That’s like 4 years of content just for The Stormlight Archives
Why not?
I have fun reading stories to my wife, I think a story-reading channel could be a blast
Cannot but mention that Thomas Winkler is not only the lead singer, but also has a day job as a civil law notary. So, one day he is whacking goblins on stage, the next he might be drawing up a contract for a company merger or the purchase of an apartment building...
I did not know that. That's awesome! He's like a superhero. Thomas Winkler is actually Angus McFife's secret identity!

I would totally be up for a Gloryhammer marathon reaction. This band is best experienced listening from start to finish
Yeah, as soon as Elizabeth said this I was like YEAH! And you're absolutely right. Their albums are complete stories, so hearing only one song out of context is missing out lol
The best part about listening to the Unicorn Invasion of Dundee is knowing exactly what you are getting into for the next three hours.
@@eomoe You mean a tabletop RPG oneshot that was initially intenden as funny and only half serious that turned into a full campaign because the entire group liked it so much turned into music. because thats pretty much gloryhammer as a whole xD
@@sewi014 "A tabletop RPG oneshot that was initially intendend as funny and only half serious that turned into a full campaign because the entire group liked it so much..." and the DM gave up on saying "no" weeks ago.
Gloryhammer is just hysterically epic metal. Completely addictive and jamming for days, you won't get these choruses out of your head easily.... Their first two albums are just as awesome.
I recently introduced my friend to Gloryhammer by describing them as, "Imagine a bunch of 7-year-old boys who are REALLY into fantasy and every cartoon from the 80s to early 2000s. They're playing make-believe. Their music is about what they're playing, in all of its stupid, utterly uninhibited glory."
If you were unaware, Thomas Winkler was fired from Gloryhammer not long after this concert. He has formed a new band called Angus McSix. The first single dropped from his upcoming album called Master of the Universe. You should totally do that one. His voice and majesty are on full display there.
Just discovered this band and then also find out that Thomas was fired a few years back. What a shame! What a voice! The replacement guy doesn't come close to matching him in both voice and charisma. I know they said his sacking was over organization and business matters, but does anyone know what it was really about?
@@danriggott5764the keyboarder and the bassist in Gloryhammer turned out to be racists/misogynists and the bass player The Hootsman abused a girl. That was the reason they ended up not being friends anymore.
@@heinrichstaub5780Oh no, how disappointing to hear this. Such a shame… Thanks for enlightening me
And people claim they fired him for his lacking live performances. I don't see it.
Gloryhammer is quite possibly the dorkiest metal band to ever make it big. I love them.
As a long long time Iron Maiden fan I object your honor lol. But seriously I do need to check these guys out more. I think I heard them a little bit here and there but never really gave them too much time in ashamed to say.
I assume Alestorm just wasn't enough so this was necessary then.
Manowar qualifies for this honor as well
Wasn't Rhapsody of Fire pissed they didn't get asked to do the Lord of the Ring's soundtrack?
I’d like to nominate Brothers of Metal
YES!!!
Someone get me my Laser powered Goblin Smasher!
My favourite phrase of this one :D
You have the right spirit, but you must know that its written: LASER! POWERED! GOBLIN! SMAAASHER! :D
Are you sure you wouldn't prefer a THUNDER! STRIKING! WIZARD! THRASHER!? or possibly a HEAVY! METAL! BATTLE! CRASHER!?
@@WillRobinson :D Although I like all three, i find a laser powered hammer to be the most ridiculous of those descriptions. So, yes I am sure! :P
@@ReatusJuilfs I like to imagine either that he has all 3 on a hammer-rack somewhere, or that the Gloryhammer has large, obvious buttons for each mode. Well-labelled in capital letters.
"Wait, oh wait. I thought this was a metal song. Aren't metal songs 7 minutes at least?" That's is the cutest thing. LMAO
She's been listening too much Opeth lately lol
This is one of their singles. The last song on the albums are usually 8-14 minutes, and are quite epic
Now I want her to react to and analyse "You suffer" from Napalm Death…
She should listen to The Sun, The Moon, The Star.... 20 minutes of progressive metal
First time I got to hear Gloryhammer was in Poland in 2019 when they played before Powerwolf. It was legendary, I got hooked right away

Gloryhammer is magnificently dorky cheese, and I love it. The three albums so far actually do tell a story in order, with each album ending on an epic 10+ minute long song. I absolutely love them.
Thomas Winkler is really badass, on Wacken 2014 he performed even when he was ill (it sounded like death metal)

Next you should react to Alestorm.
Chris Bowes (Zargothrax) in Gloryhammer is the lead singer of Alestorm. He is also the main songwriter in both bands.
Alestorm has a couple of official live videos from their Live in Tilburg show, "Keelhauled" and "Drink".
I love me some Alestorm, but vocally, I'm not sure if there's a lot for her to digest. Although I can see her giving a detailed technical breakdown on how to sound like Barbosa from Pirates of the Caribbean. Also, Elizabeth Zharoff, Pirate Queen is too awesome a concept to pass up.
@@oglschmitt It would be cool for the songs where Elliot is screaming. Though on that show everytime they showed Elliot in that concert he was drinking beer except for the parts where he did vocals.
Can you imagine her reaction to Alestorms song F'd with an anchor lol
@@oglschmitt Yeah, I'm with you on this. I love Alestorm and will continue to see them live at every possible opportunity, but if you go into it expecting amazing vocals out of Chris you'll be disappointed. It just isn't their thing.
@@pieisnice9 Still . . . Pirate. Queen. Elizabeth.
I was there when this glorious Gloryhammer performance took place... And the whole crowd was hyped from the first moment and the whole concert was like an epic journey... So many people were crowed surfing that you were busy pushing people to the stage... Just on the peak of the concert they accidently summoned a thunderstorm and the concert was interrupted. The crowd was still so excited that they couldn't leave. Hard choice.
It was so sad, that they had to stop. We went to our tent and immediately bought tickets for their tour, best decision :D

@@TheCharismaticVoice The official Gloryhammer Facebook page posted your video about the song.
I had the pleasure of meeting Thomas at their performance in Oslo November 2019. He was really a down to earth and interested in how we found the band and performance.
Unicorns. The first album was a tale of how the evil sorcerer Zargothrax raised an army of undead unicorns to invade the Scottish region of Dundee.
Christopher Bowes (Zargothrax) started another band called Alestorm. They do what's called "Pirate Metal" if you don't make a video on them, they are still worth a listen because their songs are funny and yet somehow, good.
Alestorm came first, but a fun band nonetheless.
This is probably the most adorkable Elizabeth's ever been. Love this big nerd energy.
😁😁😁😁😁
Hootsforce has got to be my personal favorite Gloryhammer song. Great band and always fun to introduce people to.
The last show I saw before COVID was Gloryhammer... one of the most silly and fun shows I've ever been part of.. Angus chasing wizards around the stage with his Laser Powered Goblin Smasher is one of the most hilariously epic things ever🤣
FIGHT FOR THE KING, FOR THE HAMMER AND THE RING

War has returned to the galaxy

Galaxies swarming behind me. Elizabeth Zharoff ahead. This can only mean that I have arrived into space. Oh yeah.
You have to listen to Avantasia - The Scarerow! The "duel" between Tobias Sammet and Jorn Lande is amazing, and the song itself is a work of art!
To be fair, if you grew up in Dundee then becoming a Dark Emperor™ is a totally valid career choice.
raises hammer with intent.
In The Land of Unicorns is typically how I recommend starting Gloryhammer. I thinks it's a fun song, and it gets non metal people hooked.
I hadn't been into metal and then RUclips gave me Hootsforce and I haven't looked back.
That was my first one, now I'm a massive fan!
I was into metal already but hadn't found my favourite sub-genre yet and then RUclips aggressively recommended me "The land of unicorns" until I listened to it. I've never looked back and been to a concert shortly before the first lockdown in Germany in February 2020. It was amazing. And I'm also fully into power metal now
100% he's just as much of a fan of Bruce Dickinson as I am. So much of his style, stage presence and vocal techniques have massive Bruce Dickinson direct influence.
I was thinking this exact same thing. Great catch in detail.
@@froggie1 yeh usually you can see little influence from band to band but Iron Maiden have so much about them that's totally unique to their style from the individual members to the band as a whole that it just smacked me in the face immediately with the comparison to Bruce. I'm a bit ashamed I don't know anything about Gloryhammer because it seems like a band right up my alley that I'd probably love.
You can absolutely hear it in The Hollywood Hootsman
In an interview he named Bruce Dickinson as the singer that has influenced him the most. So yeah, you're right.
I'm so glad there's another human on this planet that has put as much thought into Gloryhammer songs as I have.
I saw these guys live along Necrogoblikon and Wind Rose, all of them very nice people to talk to!

Another professional reaction. Love love love yours reactions. Can't wait for another Blind Guardian reaction.
I found this channel through a reaction to Unleash The Archers (who I love, and was so happy when you interviewed Brittany!), and I have been *waiting* for you to cover Gloryhammer. Valhalleluja is the best Christmas song ever, but only just a taste of Angus. PLEASE do more Gloryhammer songs! I would recommend "Fires of Ancient Cosmic Destiny", but I don't think there are any live recordings, so you'd be staring at the album cover for the whole song, which I think you purposefully avoid here, so you can analyze vocal technique visually. There is another recording from this same set at Wacken of "The Hollywood Hootsman" that shows off a bit more of Thomas' upper range though, so maybe I'll recommend that. Also, I think they have several songs referencing undead unicorns shooting lasers from their eyes, which is why some in the audience brought unicorn plushies. :-) Your joy from this song really made my day!
You should absolutely do more Gloryhammer reactions.
And after a few, once you're invested enough in the story...
