  • After hearing warnings from a local farmer that San Pablo La Laguna is full of thieves and that I would probably be robbed with machetes, I became too interested to see if the village was really that bad. I decided to explore San Pablo and see how it's actually like for a visitor. I also gave a go to a jumping platform in San Marcos and made the 12 meter jump to the Lake Atitlán.

Thanks! Enjoy your time at Lake Atitlan! It's extremely nice area with lots to see. If you're interested to see also videos of some of the other villages around the lake, I have published a couple of other videos from there

Awesome video! Looks like you've had fun. What are the restrictions like in Lake Atitlan?

Thank you! I definitely had fun, amazing country. I was there in November but even at that time there wasn't much restrictions. You need to have either vaccine or test to get in Guatemala. And then they may require you to use mask somewhere inside the buildings but they were pretty relaxed at the Lake.

I taught English in San Pablo --- before COVID came along & shut everything down .... People are GOOD - everywhere ... if YOU are good ..... Some rich person bought up all the land close to the lake - and THAT is why San Pablo has no lake access .... and you had to WALK all that way up ... and that is why the village is more poor than the other villages that have lake access .....
fyi - I'm half Finnish .... Enjoy your time at the lake .... You should have gone to ZEN EATS in San Marcos .... fyi

Hi Claire! Thank you! I agree, and especially in San Pablo people were extremely friendly. It's sad how much it's affecting San Pablo that they don't have lake access.
I'll give a go to Zen Eats next time, thanks for the suggestion!

Tourism and slowly gentrification will destroy this area. Reminder that the Mayan people have been living off the land for thousands of years and it’s slowly being taken away from them. This unfortunately happens all over the world.
