In the end, it's not a happy ending, nor a bad one, given the circumstances. Getting to die together with the love of your life and getting to be the one thing that they needed isn't something most people will get.
The endings of this game really hammer home that sometimes, your best just isn't enough. Coming to peace with that reality is the difference between hell(loop) and heaven(moving on).
*Surely I can listen to “Schubert ‘Serenade’ D957 No.4 :SIGNALIS ver.” without crying.* I thought. *It’s been months since I beat the game, surely I won’t start full force sobbing after the first 30 seconds.* I thought.
Listening to this after getting all of the endings, realizing you've done all you could, was the most crushing feeling of emptiness I've felt in my life. Yet.
I love serenade before playing Signalis but I never feel that its a sad song. Now after Signalis I couldn’t bear listening to it without being consumed by soul crushing depression.
It's the only ending for any of us. When we're experiencing our last conscious moments with our self-awareness intact, facing the inevitability of death is only made better when you're holding someone's hand. It doesn't change the outcome. It just makes going into the black alone a little more bearable.
Replikas... they have the bioresonant... stuff and the persona imprint... I think makes them a part of the original... gestalt or somethin' :)) A masterpiece this Signalis is :)
NieR: Automata and Replicant, Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, God, so many good stories with depressing androids, and hot characters. Love em all. Cried everytime :')
I know everyone is probably right when the creators originally meant for the story to only end when you, the player, move on, but after countless hours of digging, of playing, I can only hope that the theory that Ariane became a god due to the Artifact ending is true. They deserve that. Love is the most beautiful thing, sometimes.
personally, i'm gonna have to disagree, there a ton of tiny details in signalis, and people are still finding them, and one of those tiny details you can find yourself. Here's how to do it, turn your brightness and gamma all the way up and look at the corners of your screen, you'll see a barely visible red fuzzy outline of an eye. Who has red eyes? Ariane does. And this outline of an eye is present everywhere, even the artifact ending. Except one place. The promise ending. So, it is with that nugget of information, along with other bits of information like the timing counting down to zero, that I believe the Promise Ending, is in-fact, the canon ending.
the artifact ending isnt the real ending imo in my interpretation, elster became a dreamer and wished for a pocket reality with araine in it but that isnt ariane its something else like a figment of elster's memory, she is literally just dancing with a ghost but to be honest she really dont care as long as ariane is there (or whatever that thing is), she is happy to be close with ariane again
The developers themselves have said that they don't believe in true endings, so really, it's whatever you want the ending to be. Ultimately, Signalis, among other things, asks a question: "How far are you willing to go for the one you love?" Each of us no doubt have a different answer, and that is reflected in how the ending changes based on your playstyle throughout the game. We all have different answers, but at the end of the day, many of us can relate to that feeling of holding onto someone for too long, and trying to rescue something we had no chance to save.
Would be funny if the devs release a "True loop" mode where you have to replay the same segment up until adler pushes you down the elevator shaft a hundred times until you can progress further. Also everytime you die you have to restart from the beginning.
And with every loop the items are not necessarily placed in the same places or even accessible so you might have to force your path in different manners depending on how corrupted the world is? like I mean I'd love it but how extensive the game would be
Softly my songs plead through the night to you; down into the silent grove, beloved, come to me! Slender treetops whisper and rustle in the moonlight; my darling, do not fear that the hostile betrayer will overhear us. Do you not hear the nightingales call? Ah, they are imploring you; with their sweet, plaintive songs they are imploring for me. They understand the heart’s yearning, they know the pain of love; with their silvery notes they touch every tender heart. Let your heart, too, be moved, beloved, hear me! Trembling, I await you! Come, make me happy!
Listening to this after The Promise ending makes my eyes water & throat hurt. I'll go back to this masterpiece of a game to experience the Memory & Lilly endings when my heartis strong enough again.
Signalis is the only game to have ever made me cry my eyes out, and it really struck when I finished the secret ending. Just that full understanding that I really couldn't do anything to save these two. All I could was accept their fate and the tragedy of it
This is what made me fall in love with love with Ariane and Elster, not the game, not their story, not their lessons or even their love, but simply this dance
Thank you for uploading this. This song and that final shot make such an unbearably beautiful closer to one of the best stories I've ever seen a game tell.
As far as I can tell, this specific version/recording is from Shockwave-Sound, their Classical Favourites Vol. 8 album to be specific. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong though.
When this melody played i felt a sort of.... relief getting the artifact ending is sorta like a happy ending they get to be together the music was beautifully well thought out there are little games out there that captivated me such as this one i hope one day another game in the same universe is made maybe who knows time will only tell thank you for bringing such a tragic but beautiful gem into this world rose engine
I havent been this hung up on a game in a long time. Just listening to this now has me holding back tears. Just a tragedy, all around, that you can't help but feel sad for everyone involved. Especially the big two.
I like to think the red eye around the screen is Ariane, after ascending to bioresonance godhood through either the promise ending or whatever else, watching everything Elster had done to fullfill her promise by accessing the camera footage throughout the levels which can also explain why the eye isnt there for the 1st person sequences since you are playing as the character watching through their eye, not a "camera recording" like the rest of the game. As for the big eye in the sky uhhh could be ariane bending space and time watching the past or smth
for some reason this reminds me of a job i took up in 2015 at a haunted house. the ventilation sucked there so i saw some weird hallucinations of ghost children having a birthday party
This song has to be Number 1 on my list of the OST. The painful emotion you can feel during the credits is overwhelming especially after your first/second playthrough... god does it break my heart and made me love this game.
For anyone curious, I’m 95% sure this variant of the song is from one of Soundwave Music’s “Classical Favorites” albums. No. 8 or 9 I think. There’s some minor effects added but it’s pretty much the same.
I can't seem to find this exact version on Spotify. This is in the key of D Minor and an arrangement of clarinet over strings. Every version I've found is either in another key, in a faster tempo, or uses another set of instruments. Has anyone found this exact version out in the wild?
The artifact ending, to me, is not the best ending. Turning the brightness up as Elster and Ariane dance, you can see the red eye is still present around the screen. This isn't real, Ariane is still suffering in her cryopod. At best, you're giving her mind respite in this new dancing dream. At worst, you're indulging Elster selfishly in romantic nostalgia. I just wanted the space gays to be happy ;w;
Maybe i can change your thoughts about this story. I can't explain all the details because English is my 3 language but ruclips.net/video/myCk9dVSqNw/видео.htmlsi=OlAfiDhGd9TogEBz I this video explained what that red eye was, why ariane and elster give each other different promise than you thought and why artifact ending you can get only on your second sicle of the game. Only problem is that this video on russian but it has automatic transaction on your pc or mobile phone. I will be very happy if you would watch it.
I personally take it, since this ending can't be achieved without at least beating the game once, that regardless of Leave, Memory, or Promise, the loop continues. To me, the Artifact ending involves Elster finally moving on into the bioresonance/afterlife with Ariane. No longer subjecting the survivors of S-23 to the loop and having each other for eternity.
@@ZedWolf1The way I see it, Promise ends the loop. They both can finally rest. From what I could tell, the corpses other all the Elster’s before you weren’t able to keep their promise, but this one could.
This game might as well be the real king in yellow. I haven’t even played the game, just stumbled upon it. Yet here I am, still feeling the most greif I’ve ever felt after just watching a few lore explained videos.
You know, you won't be able to get over it until you play it at least once. You should, it's survival horror modernized in the best way possible. And even if you cannot get over the grief by the end of the game (you won't, the game doesn't leave your mind that easily), at least you'll be able to get over the horrors and challenges you're presented with. I never knew I liked survival horrors before.
Partly because this music is gorgeous, and partly because I was stunned and speechless, but I sat through the entire credits. This is the best story in a game I've ever been honoured to witness
I got the promise ending my first playthrough. I'm never touching this game again but I will treasure it forever.

Understandable.
