I recently bought a hoodie sweatshirt and it was drastically reduced from $40 to $7 due to a faulty separating zipper. Now, with the purchase price of a new separating zipper and your free tutorial, I can make my hoodie whole and functional again. Thank you so much!
Love it. But I am trying to replace a carhart hoodie zipper. The thickest material ever!! Any tips? It doesn’t want to go through the machine. It keeps jamming and stopping. I have a nice Juki QV18.
Thank you for your instructions. I was able to replace a zipper on a sweatshirt for one of my students. I would not have been able to do this task without your guidance. Thank you again and God Bless!😃
Excellent😸 Been seeing for eons but it NEVER hurts to take a refresher. Turned my granddaughter on to your channel as I think this is a marvelous method of teaching. Than you!
This was a fairly easy and fast way for me to put a zipper in a casual garment. It was the best and quickest explanation video I found on You Tube. Thanks!
You never finish edges in the zipper tutorials. How many jackets out there have raw edges and unfinished edges? How many jackets don't have linings? I would like to see a tutorial for a separating zipper on a thicker woven fabric with finished edges. Thanks.
There are some pretty good videos on shortening a separating zipper out there. Basically you remove the unnecessary teeth with plyers or needle nose plyers, breaking them up to remove them. Then you either attach a new stop, or carefully remove the old one and crimp it in the new location.
I'm running into an issue replacing a separating zipper in a fleece jacket. the fleece stretches. I put it in once - it was awful, tore that out - now kinda stuck. would I follow this the same way or do I need to stabilize the edges?
Obviously I am not professor pincushion but thats a great idea. I had to stabilize the zipper area with interfacing of my pants because the fabric was very thin. After placing the zipper it was fine.😊
I know this is an old video, but I wanted to see what to so with the top/facing of the collar and you didn't show that detail. Other info was great. Thank you for your tutorial.
You are amazingly skilled and talented! I'm sewing up this sport zipper on a scuba swim top I made, will I need to zig zag stitch because this is a stretch fabric?
It's not going to hurt anything to sew on the zipper using a zig zag stitch instead of a straight stitch but if the zipper tape itself doesn't have any stretch then it's probably not going to make a difference. :)
i have a question, how do you fold over the edge of the material that the zip is being sewn to? do you do it by hand or is there something like a presser foot that turns it over?
when you sew your seam, the zipper is faced down, but as soon as you flip it out so it's right side up, the seam allowance of the fabric automatically folds on its own. Hope that helps. :)
I was sewing a bustier with lining and lapped zipper(separated) at the back, although I finished it by my own but still wondering if I was doing in the right way, been searching online but I couldn't find any proper tutorial, hope you can do one! Many thanks
Eron Wei we do that have a tutorial on a bustier that I made and it also has a lining and separating zipper. It might not be the same as yours but it's on our channel if you want to look. If yours looks good and is functional, I wouldn't stress out about it though :)
Barclay's Mommy, Donna the basting stitch is just being used as a guideline for when you do the topstitch on the right side of the garment. Hope that makes more sense.
It makes no sense to me. If you put in a basting stitch, then sew over top of it... It sounds like a headache in the making. How do you remove the basting stitch that is in a contrasting colour?
Professor Pincushion Hi There, I read many of the comments and found that a few of us are getting stuck with the same thing, ‘finishing the band collar’. If you don’t have a tutorial, can you suggest one? I myself have spent ages trying to find an example that makes any sense. I’ve partially added a zip to my garment but can’t finish the top end. We need you Professor Pincushion. Please respond.😩
so it isn't buckled at the beginning but later? hmmmm....is the fabric stretchy? maybe it stretched over time. you can use a stabilizer in the zipper area and that might help
+CharlottesWorld1 for this collar, the collar starts off being twice the finished width size, so half of it is folded to the inside of the vest and then stitched in place
I love your videos more than any other ones I've seen, you show and give instructions all the way through. A lot of videos these days just point and play music. BORING!!!!

Nice and clear

Marilyn Webster aw, that's awesome. I'm glad that she's taking after you in learning how to sew :)
This was a fairly easy and fast way for me to put a zipper in a casual garment. It was the best and quickest explanation video I found on You Tube. Thanks!
you're welcome! glad to help :)
This was such a clear tutorial, and helped me sew my first separating zipper very easily. Thank you!!
Omg I’m never using any other zipper besides this! It makes it so much easier to sew in when you can separate both pieces!
I have to put a zipper in my fleece jacket and will use this method TOMORROW!! So awesome 👌🏾
What is the reason for the top stitch if it is directly over the other stitch?
Great tutorial. Can you tell me what pattern for the vest you used? Am looking to make a fleece vest and like this style. Thank you
I’d love to see how you did the collar
Thank you for the tutorial. Do you have a pattern for this vest? Thanks
Short video and not confusing thanks God bless you my sister
I have a dual head zipper I am replacing in a coat. Thank you for the tutorial! I had trouble finding the right video type.

So at 5:30 you switch back to a regular foot to do the basting stitch?
Nice video. Thank you :). Do you happen to have tutorial for a jacket that has inside fabric as well?
This is the best zipper video I have ever seen. Where can I purchase the vest pattern used in your tutorial?
Do I need to finish the edge before applying the zipper?
Very clear! Thanks.
Your jacket is so nice. Could you please show how to make it too? Thanka
Thank you for this tutorial! I'm about to put it to use!
You didn't show what to do with the top extra length of zipper... really the only reason I searched for this video!

I noticed that the slider is on the right side. Is that common for women's jackets now?

arghhh you skipped the most important part, the VERY top of the zipper. :/ i wanted to see how it looked tucked and what not
You're right!
I'd like to know how to do this important part too.
I know this is an old video, but I wanted to see what to so with the top/facing of the collar and you didn't show that detail. Other info was great. Thank you for your tutorial.
Thank you for this tutorial. Can pls show how to stitch a jacket with pattern and measurements
Hi so I’m cutting patterns but the front I cut in one piece so to add a zipper I have to cut it in half?
Do u put interfacing on the fleece jacket first or the zipper?
Are the pocket zippers on the wrong side?
Shouldn't the end of the garment be a nice straight edge. It seems very uneven, when she lays out the zip for sewing...
I would like to see how u do the collar I'm struggling with the collar
that's what i was looking for too :(
Helpful! Every time I sew a zipper I like to review how it goes.
Great tutorial. I've never done one so this is going to be used soon. Thanks for posting.

is there a video on how you finished the collar? that's the part I get stuck :(
sorry, not yet :(
@@ProfessorPincushion do you have a video on this? I spent 2 hours searching youtube on how to finish this
I like this! Never did a separating zipper but, will try! Wonderful!!

Great tutorial, this will help me alot..!!
Hi,
Would it be easier to separate it from the start?
Also, to align, i would make notches on both sides to make sure its even.
Thanks
Xoxo
You can try but I just get nervous that I won't line up each side perfectly and it'll end up wonky
That's a good idea, or you could mark dots on your two zippers where they should meet, with a fabric pen.
Do you need to have a special zipper or can a handbag zipper be used?
as long as it's separating, it should work
Wow! This video is so helpful. Thank you!
Do you have a pattern available for this vest...love the styling details!
It's New Look 6251
Thank god, I can finish my cosplay hoodie now ; w ;
how did it go :)
This is great. I really love your channel lady. :)

I wish I watched this before I did my jacket. Great information thank you!
How do you sew that vest?
what machine do you have that goes so slow
At the end, why bother doing the basting stitch, instead of just using a regular stitch? *confused*
Barclay's Mommy, Donna the basting stitch is just being used as a guideline for when you do the topstitch on the right side of the garment. Hope that makes more sense.
It makes no sense to me. If you put in a basting stitch, then sew over top of it... It sounds like a headache in the making. How do you remove the basting stitch that is in a contrasting colour?
do you need to add extra seam allowance since your flipping it over?
Sabrina Xiong No, I'm still maintaining my normal 5/8" seam allowance
what was the tension on the thread while stitching the zipper?
It was just a normal thread tension at a 4 for my machine
Could you please do a raglan sleeve/baseball jersey tutorial? Thanks so much.
Drastic Meas thanks for the suggestion

...instead of pins, I prefer to use wonder tape to place the zipper-so much easier to manipulate & sew into place...

😢 I disliked the editing. Can't you just fast forward. I have ADD.
Thank you
what machine do you have that goes so slow
It's a Husqvarna machine, and I'm just lightly pressing down on the pedal. If I go too fast, the machine noise might drown me out while filming.
is it the emerald 118?
