    One thing that, for me, separates top level pros from "really good but not quite there" players is how Carlos sets up a play that would give him the DTL winner most times but, when Ruud still reaches it, he's able to keep pushing forward, first with the volley and then with the overhead. I've seen many top >30 players try a great, perfectly executed, play and then run out of ideas when its opponents returns the ball once or twice more

    • @ihaka3925
      @ihaka3925 7 месяцев назад +80

      It's a much more difficult shot. It doesn't look like it, but it is, for multiple reasons (changing trajectory of the ball, changing spin, the net is higher, you need to let the ball come back further on the backhand side, increasing error rate and reducing power) you are also hitting towards the court because you are so wide making it also less effective in that situation

    What wouldEvert who could undo any ground stroke rally pattern do when steffi made the same ploy in everts last win over Graf ( who employed this strategy which worked against Evert in later matches due to everts age and lower mobility execution ) do ? Evert would do one of three things 1. Hit drop shot either down the line or middle of the court bring a reluctant Graf to net if she could reach it then lob over grafs head . 2. Hit a high lob to buy time to get back in position 3 above all outside of option 1. - return the ball deep back to grafs backhand . Then serving at 5-4 deuce go for two service winners in a row to win set 6-4. She won next 6-2 in 1986 at Lipton the last match Chris still had her youth playing a match . After this tournament she lost for first time at family circle cup to Graf 6-4,7-5 after being up 4-2 in second set . She became not interested by hitting short trading grounders on clay . She had focused on quickening her game for past 3 years to compete as hsindtMartina and then found it boring playing steady . When she lost interest her ground strokes were short allowing opponent angles and she had too much court to cover . She knew when Hana beat Graf in QF she woke up seeing grafs from keeping her from winning slams again and made one last effort to win 86 French for her last 18 thalamus title . From beating Hana one sf 84- to French 86 evert played her last run of consistant perfect tennis . It wasn’t enough to topple Martina at her best st W but she won 85,86 French against Martina . Then during W 86 John Lloyd retired after second round loss and it was then that Chris didn’t see a good future with John and became down . This was on her mind during Hana’s sf match at W where Hana played her best and Chris tried to be eager while Hana was in the zone up 5-2 Hana won 13 straight points . Chris even had a breaknn no point to get into a tie break and even then the serve from Hana took an odd bounce that completely threw off Chris . When Hana won Chris seemed relieved she didn’t have to play Martina because she didn’t want to lose 6 W finals to Martina . Before 86 open Chris went on a run with Kathy smith and her knee hurt so bad that she got up late in her hotel room before she was to play Sukova in sf . With no warm up took the court and never could get it going as if her intensity evaporated and she again wasn’t in top form physically because of the knee and mentally not seeing a future with John agreeing to a divorce at end of tennis season but Chris didn’t play a tournament rest of 86 and played Dallas vs shriver in March 87 taking 6 months off to have treatments to her knee and didn’t miss the tour. She divorced Lloyd and the time off and age took edge off her game didn’t even reach a slam final for first time since 72. Chris rebounded a bit at start of 88 with new goals beating Martina at AO in sf and came back from 5-1 to serve at 6-5 30-30 only to lose in tie break . Chris knew thenthatbeating Martina and Steffi to win a slam was highly. Out of reach but she milked her career for her winning one of her top 5 played matches of her career which happened to be her final tournament win against Deles who would win the Open two years later and go on to having grafs number until she was attacked 6-0,6-2. In the most strategic baseline Uber evert - vintage Evert at OPEN 89 the tournament where in 71 she reached sf to lose to king - the very tournament that made Evert a star beating Eisel in second round saving 6 match points - 4 of which every hit clean winners off of Eieels serve . Eisel served all her serves in same place , a fatal flaw gone unnoticed by Eisel sensing the crowd pulling for Evert her brain shut off . Evert was taught by her father who taught her that tennis then with wood rackets that kept a player from over powering opponents , win by playing steady and concentrating through your nerves by fighting and being keenly aware of your game and your opponents game making tiny adjustments as you played evaluating why you’ve won or lost the previous point and making changes along the way . This thinking prevents the emotional reaction of nerves - concentrating through them to have a 90 percent winning match record highest of all time among male or female players . Her. EDT wasn’t able to beat Martina at Martina’s best but she learned to play her best tennis because she didn’t pull a Borg and quit because another player took over . She made it her goal to become better and this was after she had been year end number one for 7 years . She took her lumps from Martina 13 times in a row to beat Martina in Jan 85 so she could win 85,86 French open against Martina and lay claim to best clay court player while Martina was best grass court player . 43-37 vs Martina in Martina’s favor but Martina made Every beat her in those French veins for evert . I admire and respect both Evert and Navratilova .

    Steffi Graf was the master of the inside out forehand to open up the court.

    Yea, come on dude. Nobody knows what a 2-1 is (even the players). They are simply looking to open the court up. This is the basic tactic of every point. Get your point, but you’re making it way too complicated.

    Alcaraz is also way off court to hit his forehand. Rudd could do the same play and return down the line.

    Bro, can you say "Alcaraz" properly? It's "c" not "f".

  • @antoinev9733
    @antoinev9733 4 месяца назад

    my analysis :
    1 Alcaraz should have play, what is called by experts
    "llbh" ( sorry it is very tactical^^^) on his last backhand
    2 A very simple way to avoid any "twoone" is to ... buy time by giving ... volume instead of hitting like an idiot to LOSE time !
    ( llbh: long line backhand ;) )

    I never play tennis, in this situation why the pressured players did not return to far corner of alcaraz (instead of returning back to the same corner)?

    • @nijaysivarajan3768

      He's likely just trying to stay away from alcaraz's forehand, cause it's massive. Plus hard to guess where it might go
