If I recall, there has been at least one somewhat significant death in each episode. Which leads me to believe that there are two more coming. It appears from the preview that Mariko is the next to go. And in the final episode, it has to be Ishido.
Episode 1: The Captain of the Erasmus or the crewman who was boiled to death
    Episode 2: The ninja assasin
Episode 3: (assumed) Buntaro... which was a fake out
    Episode 4: Jozen
Episode 5: Uejirou, the gardener and many in Toranaga's army
Episode 6: Sugiyama, one of the Regents
    Episode 7: Nagakado
    Episode 8: Hiromatsu

IIRC, the death on episode 9 will be the most painful for TV watchers

In episode 8, Blackthorn was looking for charcoal. He is ordered to Osaka to surrender the cannons to Ishido. I suspect that Blackthorn is acquiring charcoal to make gun powder. I anticipate an explosive 9th episode. I cannot wait.

I believe that Saeki is part of the "Crimson Sky" plan. Saeki is the traitor in Ishido's camp. Saeki has A LOT more to gain with his older brother than with Ishido (i.e control of Osaka region), plus the other southern regions.

Interesting. Never thought of that. But honestly after this past fucking episode I don’t know what to expect anymore 🤣 was such a powerful episode Foreal

So the writer made Ishido stupid to trust his enemy's half brother then let Saeki free his half brother after Toranaga said he accepts to surrender. I think the best thing to do is Saeki to accompany Toranaga to Osaka to the soonest.

Toranaga plan to free the hostage in Osaka Castle and palace complex, also do some chaos and blame on Ishido, this will made some lord switch side to Toranaga. Mariko died in this episode 9

Lord Toranaga has no heir anymore. I'm predicting he's going to force Lord Saeki and Lady Ochiba to produce an heir for him. haha. An excellent spin from the book which says Lords Saeki lusts after Lady Ochiba anyway.

Based on the episodes, it would seem that the season will end with only 50% of the novel's story, unless they heavily condensed the remaining events

    • @sugargame

Crimson sky was only described in the last paragraph of the novel anyway. The episodes are already 95% of the novel.

Spoiler Alert: After Lord Toranaga wins Crimson Sky and becomes Shogun, Lord Saeki lusts after Lady Ochiba and annoys her several times that they get married. Lady Ochiba got angry and demanded Saeki to commit seppuku (suicide). Lord Toranaga merely predicted it would happen so i suspect that screenwriters will make another twist here.

Toranaga was so selfish by sacrificing his best two team members just to start a fkn crimson sky plan which we will have no time to see it fully I believe. Anna Sawai did a grand great job by carrying the whole show on her shoulders. no offense, but I see her efforts are overcoming the rest of crew. Cosmo Jarvis was not the best one for this role, they could have been chosen someone else way better than him. Many scenes lake his emotional reactions which can be also seen in his real character out of the show during the interviews with the cast. if that show was long, I am not sure it will be the best show to keep watching without Mariko.
