    So all you’ve essentially done here, is test a faster drive against a slower drive.

      @Onni Mäkitalo Yes. Ps4 uses a hard drive and the ps5 uses an SSD. Two polar opposites in terms of technology.

    you need to test a PS5 vs PS4 with SSD, otherwise it's not really a 1:1 test.

    • @bobbleboo1669
      @bobbleboo1669 4 года назад +8

      the PS5 comes with an SSD, the PS4 doesn't. It would be much less of a fair test if you compared a stock PS5 with a considerably upgraded PS4 lol

      @@bobbleboo1669 Considerably updated?
      I would agree that bench-testing processors, renderings, internet connectivity and the like a fair test. (Ya know..The non upgradable parts) Or even how much better a ps4 game looks on the new system. That is a like with like test.
      My point was that this test is intellectually dishonest. Its well known that comparing ANY magnetic drive device vs an SSD equipped one will show that an SSD is faster. All he’s really done here is pitch drive against drive rather than what makes a system a system.
      Its like taking an SSD equipped computer brand and saying that this one is better because it loads faster than the non ssd version? Its barely a real test. What is really being tested at this point?

      @@shanewillbur1325 I get what you're saying, but the point of a test between 2 consoles it to test how much better one is than the other. That's like upgrading a Ford Focus to the point where it's faster than a Ferrari and saying the Ford is better. It's not, you just made it that good for the sake of comparison.
      If you're gonna compare a PS4 and a PS5, then you compare a PS4 and a PS5. The PS4 doesn't have an SSD but that's because PS4s just don't. If you're going by that logic, you might as well just replace every outdated PS4 component with a better one because "the PS5 has a better one of those instead". It's not a fair or useful comparison if you're just gonna give the PS4 more things so it's comparable to the PS5. That's the whole point of a comparison, to compare the two lol.

      @@bobbleboo1669 If you think the logic applies to cars, in the way you describe. then you have mistaken my logic for something else. This was specifically targeted to the type of test he was doing. I'm not extending that logic to any un-sanctioned non-replaceable part that requires special soldering, tooling or anything of the sort. I am strictly sticking to the ONE upgrade that SONY itself endorses, and even provides official instructions for. See for yourself.
      www.playstation.com/en-us/support/hardware/ps4-upgrade-hdd/
      You will NOT see any guides from Sony for other parts that would have any sort of performance change, this is the only performance change possible. And this is the reason why this ONE test receives scrutiny. The test he had done only proved that one drive was faster than the other. Which is a given, and a commonly understood difference. You mind as well test an SSD and a HDD in isolation and you would get the same result.
      There are a myriad of other tests he could have performed that would compare the base hardware against base hardware, and that would be totally acceptable.
      Now if we were to compare an SSD with a like SSD. And found that the PS5 was still faster, then we can conclude that yes. The PS5 can support a better NVME drive interface, while the PS4 can only support Sata III throughput. If a test like that was done, then we could see exactly what the difference in boot up times each system is fully capable of.

      @@shanewillbur1325 It's not well known. Not to most console gamers. All we care about is "how much faster does a normal PS5 turn on compared to a normal PS4?".
