  • Campus protests across the country have renewed Americans' attention on the Israel-Gaza war and are scrambling U.S. politics, particularly on the left. Senior Opinions Editor Amanda Katz speaks with columnists Dana Milbank and Shadi Hamid about how their views have evolved since Oct. 7, whether there’s a double standard on free speech, and what the protests could foreshadow for the upcoming presidential election, particularly among young people.

Intolerance against teachers and students in the USA against blind support to the genocide in Gaza raises doubts over the real commitment of the country with democracy and human rights.

Hamas knew what would happen but they did it anyway. They care nothing for Palestinian lives.

We need to differential between defending your country (eg Ukraine) & war mongering for profit (eg Israel-Palestine). In terms of the Israel-Palestine war, we need to differentiate between the wish for peace of the majority of people in both Palestine & Israel, & the evil motives of the right-wing gov & Zionist greed for land in Palestine awa their fossil fuel assets. The us is turning a blind eye to gross human rights abuses as Israel is its only aly in the middle east region, but especially iran - this is not acceptable.
The world is used to peace, and there's widr coverage on issues around the mental health of veterans (such as PTSD) and being essentially deserted by govs re injuries & health issues (eg after burning waste), mental health & re-integration issues etc. Live news coverage has also exposed the realities of war... it's not as romantic as it's made out to be.

We the U.S. SHOULD be so proud of these students protesting showing they will stand up stronger than ever before, for human rights not just at home but world wide & for your rights one day too. These students have the strongest sense of ethics, morals and what is right and wrong above any other generation in history. All the institutions that helped them be confident people they now are, about the need for human & equal rights at home & around the world, should be applauded not reprimanded. God Bless the US for the beautiful future generation we have which does not exist anywhere else in the world at this intensity level.

What about the human rights of jews over the past 50 years, enduring constant & countless vile terrorist attacks all over the globe? How quickly we all forget huh?? I stand for BOTH the innocent lives lost in Palestine AND I stand with Israel. Both can co-exist. Free your mind
