  • This is the custom winch setup that I use for vehicle recovery, loading my racecar, or getting anything out from anywhere. If using for larger vehicles or dead weight, you'll need a larger winch, but this plate and chain setup is the way to go.

    I think I’ve got the same winch in Norway 🇳🇴 ! 😃
    Haven’t yet decided on how I will use it. So far it’s been pretty useful with a mobile setup 😂

    Nice video.. I welded a bracket w/ angle iron, bolted it on a winch, then bolted separate angle iron on a trolley (I Beam), then drilled 5/8” holes through the sides, slide 5/8” hitch pins in for a ceiling hoist that can be easily removed, I’ve used it to pull motors and jeep tubs.. I then use the 5/8” holes to attach chains to the inside truck bed eyelets to roll in my Harley on a chock cart.. also use chains with winch bracket to load cars in car hauler, hooking to the front tie down eyelets.. I then welded 2” tube on a removable bracket for hitch receivers. All the power comes from a chargeable jump starter box..

    I saw this video and bought the portable winch plate set for the versatility. This winch plate is made by Warn, the company that makes heavy duty winches. They know way more about winching than the stupid hater comments on here. Plate and chains are solid AF!!

    Great idea! I have a small ATV winch that I'm going to use to pull a light weight cargo trailer into a tight spot, but I don't want to permanently mount it, so this looks like a viable solution.

      I have a similar setup with a small 12 volt 'boat trailer' winch. It's already mounted to a plate almost like yours, but it has a factory cut opening for the plate/winch to hook over a tow ball. I have a pre made length of chain through the opening, and I loop the chain over the tongue jack. Works great pulling lawn tractors and ATV's onto my trailer.

    Great idea. Just wanted a light duty winch system to pull my motorcycle s onto my trailer, no more than 600 lbs. would seem to work for that👍

      @@BMF_Garage do you athink a 2500 lb winch will pull a 4200lb vehicle into a trailer??

    • @BMF_Garage
      @BMF_Garage  4 года назад +1

      Yes it will pull a truck as long as your not going up a steep hill or steep ramps. The rolling resistance isn’t that much. I’ve used this winch on vehicles up to 4000 lbs, just have to be smart about it and how you pull the load.

      @@BMF_Garage holding all the weight by chains is not safe. Defeats purpose of it

    • @BMF_Garage
      @BMF_Garage  5 лет назад +5

      The chains are rated at more weight than the winch. Only a 2000 lb winch. Pretty sure the winch cable is the weak point here, but what do I know... only been through safety and rigging courses for the last 15 years of my career.
      Anything can be dangerous if used incorrectly.
      Anything can also be safe if used appropriately with common sense.

      We recovered huge barges when building bridges the exact same way. It looks sketch but when your in the middle of a river attachment points are very few. We rigged all of it for the winch operator & did hooked were he told us to. I always thought the winch needed to hard fastened but out on a barge it wasn’t possible. If anything when your in a bind you do what you have to do. Just move slow & watch everything just like we were told to do

      @@BMF_Garage , lol quick question, to pull a 4200 lb car on a trailer do you think a 2500lb winch be enough?? Or where do i get more info?m

    • @BMF_Garage
      @BMF_Garage  4 года назад

      It’s all about rolling resistance. When the car is in neutral and rolling Greeley it doesn’t take much to get it going. I’ve used this 2500 lb winch setup to pull trucks on my car trailer. It’s low and doesn’t have much up hill resistance.
      It’ll depend on your setup, but most times a small winch like this is more than enough to pull a free rolling truck anywhere ...
      Pulling one out of the mud is another story lol
